The ref was trying to give players amnesty for their first screw up, but one team always gets the short end of that. The game would've taken an interesting turn if that foul was Mikel's second yellow.
I don't know what choice he had. Starting Pastore wasn't really going to happen because he can't defend. Rabiot was okay. Good to get the goal, but his hospital ball put Motta in a tight spot, which led to the Chelsea goal. He did a ton of running though.
I mean, Verratti was injured. It was predictable and he did well enough; no reason to get carried away.
Rabiot was horrible lol wtf. Besides his goal, he was beat like a drum when he tried to play attackers in space and continuously gave the ball back in horrible positions on the field.
First 30 minutes I would have scored Rabiot a 4/10 (goal notwithstanding, so if adding in the goal, maybe a 5/10). The next 30 I would have given Rabiot a 6/10 since compared to Matuidi and Motta who were falling apart, he stood his ground. Then in the last 30 he did extremely well, grew in confidence, and would have gotten 8/10. So overall something like 6 or 6.5 out of 10 would have been his overall mark, which would have put him imo above anyone today other than Zlatan, Trapp and Di Maria...
Matuidi was definitely struggling for fitness out there. Not his usual self, and he derailed late. Thankfully, the game was pretty much over by then.
Not sure what it would take for Matuidi to be benched since he plays even when he's in poor form (as in, all season except for like the first two weeks ) and evidently he plays when he's injured/coming back from injury.
