which is why it's dangerous against better opponents. With players drifting you better make sure you can hold the ball and all your passes are on or the break is on. Without a true ST the 3 up front need to be very, very creative or you are going to have trouble scoring.

I just don't think Roma have the quality up front to pull it off against RM. They tried it and it really didn't work. We played well but didn't generate near enough real scoring chances.

    Agree.
Empoli may lack a bit of quality and had key players missing vs. us but they play a similar style to that Fiore.

    I expect an exciting match!

Our biggest issue won't be scoring goals but stopping them. Will be huge game!

Agree. Thought he had probably one of his best games for us last time out. He moved the ball around with a lot more purpose. Of course LS has everything to do with that.

I don't understand what you mean by saying it's dangerous to play with a false 9 against better opponents. Creativity and basic technical skills like holding up the ball and passing are required no matter what system you play. If anything, playing with this SES-Perrotti-Salah trident makes things more difficult for opposition defenders because they would have to watch all three guys who can run, interchange positions and switch up play instead of focusing on just Dzeko if we run the entire offense through him.

We played well enough against RM. On another day, Salah would have had a better first touch in the box and converted a couple of his chances, or if Vanq's shot swerved just a bit more, it would have been game on. Flo, despite not being a proper RB, had CR7 in his pocket for the most part except on the goal which created by a moment of brilliance from one of the greatest players of all time. No one denies the gulf in class & resources between us and the likes of RM, Barca and Bayern. Hell even if Dzeko got his open look on target the tie would have looked different.

Fiorentina in general play a pressing style, but they know better than to go on all out against us or the other CL league chasing teams. We will have to keep a close watch on Tello, who has given their attack an extra dimension.

Don't miss any big moments as they don't believe in instant replay there.

Roma squad to face Fiorentina: Rudiger, Digne, Nainggolan, Castan, Strootman, Perotti, Dzeko, Totti, Salah, Maicon, Falque, Pjanic, Keita, Vainqueur, El Shaarawy, Florenzi, Szczesny, De Sanctis, Emerson Palmieri, Torosidis, Manolas, Ucan, Zukanovic

Only notable to miss out is DDR not that it wasn't expected.

Agree that I think Dzeko being benched is just a tactical decision. I see us sitting a bit deeper and then trying to kill them on the counter with the pace and interchanging of the front three. It's going to be very difficult to man mark that trident as opposed to having Dzeko who will stand in the middle like a tree.

How do we know Dzeko isn't going to start? So far I've been surprised with every single Spalletti line up.

Well said. It's purely tactical, Spalletti has not given up on dzeko but he knows how to change it up to suit the opponent. Something many complained Rudi couldn't do. As things stand right now we are a much better side with the false 9. It's also brought SES back to life and made him look like a top class player again.

I think you would have to be confident we can make it 7 from 7 tonight, especially with the extra two days rest/preperation which should certainly count for something.

Are we? I'm not opposed to the idea of dropping the striker and going with 3 mobile forwards, as I've said few times I think its the way of the future, but has it worked so far? Against RM we were completely toothless and didn't manage to create a single chance to shoot from inside the box, while against Empoli it was the same other than the 2 long range shots from outside the box. I think the SES-Perrotti-Salah trio still needs a lot of work.

Off the top of my head:
    1. Perotti cut it back to SES near the 6 yard box and he hit it over the bar.
    2. Salah had at least 1 or 2 shots inside the box and that doesn't even include the other 2-3 times he couldn't control the ball correctly.
    3. Dzeko had that near post finish that he managed to hit side-netting somehow.
    4. And I'm probably forgetting some.

It's not perfect yet but he is our most fluid option. The Real Madrid game was a little early for us I suppose. However, changing things to suit games is an option we have now with Perotti being able to be shifted to the wing and actually give the striker a chance.
