Let the speculations begin. I'm also going to assume since Kinkead said "had" we are no longer looking at said striker for the moment. Tip I got was that the Union had eyes on a Euro striker currently playing in Germany— Kevin Kinkead (@Kevin_Kinkead) January 31, 2016
In classic union fashion they were probably banking on a transfer that never happened and were caught with no backup plan.
Julien Green. He must be "Euro" since he played for the German National Team. (I can't put that in red on my phone.)
It would be nice to sign a striker, but a transfer not working out is not necessarily a sign of incompetence. I am sure hundreds of deals fail to pan out for one reason or another.
Cheese Fries, not if you see some of the whinging and moaning on social media. Apparently the Union are the only MLS club who is not successful in signing players ... I could Google it, if I wasn't so lazy, but who was the Icelandic dude who trained with the Union last year for a bit?
I'd rather make a good deal than rush something together for the wrong reasons. We still have the ability to bring someone in who is out of contract or who is already in the league.
I'd expect to start hearing something more concrete after today and the close of the Euro transfer window(s).
More smoke on this one: Bij #ADO twee uitgaande transfers nabij. Roland Alberg wordt gelinkt aan Philadelphia Union (VS), Mathias Gehrt in gesprek met #RodaJC— Freek Jansen (@Freek_JansenVI) February 1, 2016
google translate says that ADO have two transfers near (completion) Looking like Alberg could be on his way over here
Not quite sure where Alberg would play assuming he starts. The 3 man midfield seems set although he could play Barnetta's position. He can also play LW so he'd probably start over Pontius. Not sure if he plays RW too.
Seems like Alberg is a right footed left winger, pretty sure that's the same as Pontius. Don't think it would be a massive stretch to move Pontius to the right so we can finally move Le Toux to the bench.
This. Seba is a decent player and a good guy, but he's not an MLS starting RW at this point. The Union will not be a playoff-quality team with Seba as the regular starter. Same goes for Sapong. Bring in upgrades for Seba and Sapong, put those guys on the bench and have them for spot starts, and the team is starting to take shape.
Still need a starting striker. Any ideas who could come from within the league in that case? Besides Kamara I don't know who else is up for grabs that would be a clear starter.
I agree, but it wouldn't make sense at all to have 3 right wingers riding the pine: Le Toux, Restrepo, Ayuk.
