According to the club's sporting director, Morris "sees his future in America." http://www.werder.de/de/profis/news/57711.php So that would point to Seattle.
This would be the most messed up flirtation in my time on big soccer and scar me forever if it doesn't go through (YA wise)
so a german vacation and likely more money out of seattle? continuing to put that stanford education to good use.
Really hoped to see him in Germany but I guess that won't happen. Being with Seattle ain't too bad I'll probably have more of a chance to see him play and he'll have a way better shot to get minutes
I like this decision. I don't think he had much of a chance to actually get minutes with Bremen right away.
This is a Landon Donovan moment for MLS. The kid turned down a BL contract for MLS. This will be very influential.
Good move. If he has half the talent that some on here say he has he should be able to shine in MLS for a year or two and then get a monstrous Euro deal.
To quote "Turk" Solozzo, "What guarantees can I give you, kid?" Jürgen Klopp on this move - "It's not important to get the highest wages of your career in your first year. It's important to get an education," said Klopp in his press conference ahead of Wednesday night's FA Cup third-round replay with Exeter. http://www.skysports.com/transfer-centre OK, it's about a different move. But it's the same thing. And it probably has more in common with Donovan in the sense that JoMo doesn't consider soccer as an imperative to his life.
Who ever got a monstrous Euro deal out of MLS? The longer he waits, the older he's a rookie over there. Unless he's the second coming of Neymar in MLS, the better he is, the bigger MLS contract he gets, and the more he's going to be priced out of going to Europe, like Bradley and Altidore now.
I would have been fine with him ending up at Bremen. However, I will admit that I would have found it odd for him to actually pull the trigger on it. Remember, this is a kid who didn't want to even leave college when he had offers to do so for 2 years, because he was so comfortable with his situation on campus. Now we were to believe that he would pull the trigger on going overseas rather than take the hometown job? I always had my doubts that he would do so, unless they overpaid him by a hell of a lot. Apparently, Bremen chose not to.
Those two are priced out due to their wages. Morris's wages shouldn't be a stumbling block but his development - or lack thereof - might be. As I'd mentioned earlier in the thread, Sigi has three DP's Martins, Dempsey and Valdez in front of him and none will be willing to give up their status and a guaranteed contract just to get this kid on the pitch. In that respect, he may be looking at PT a year or two from now. At least, Yedlin was slotted in at right fullback immediately and played there. With Sigi coaching for his meal ticket, JoMo isn't likely to be it. Additionally, Seattle has a decent midfield, which allows them an above average amount of possession and Morris hasn't looked all that great in a "half-court" game. BTW, with him staying in Stanford this long, this development should have anticipated. His family, unlike Donovan's, is well off. A hundred grand here or there makes little difference and he should be able to continue his education toward a degree. Mike Fisher, Part Deux.
Assurances don't mean shit though. When it's game time, he better be playing. Because I believe hed be playing at Bremen.
Relegation struggle in Germany vs. hanging with the Deuce in front of Seattle's mega crowds. Easy to see why he might be going with the latter even if I do wish we had more Yanks abroad.
This must be causing JK to pull his thin wispy hair out by the handful. He is always going on about getting people out of their comfort zone. Jordan couldn't be going anywhere more comfortable that Seattle and his pops. Unless this was a dollars thing, I do suggest that it seems JMOsmooth may not be all-in if you will with a career in soccer. A competitive player does not turn down an opportunity to play regularly in the 1BL for an opportunity to play regularly in MLS, again, unless it is purely a dollars thing (Bradley, Dempsey, Altidore, Giovinco). No coach would ever tell the guy he was a guaranteed starter unless you are coming in on a DP contract like the aformentioned, so I can't see that it was because he thought he would have an obviously better shot at significant player time right away. I also don't think given what we've seen and heard from Jordan that he wouldn't fight tooth and nail for playing time anywhere he goes, and probably succeed in earning more time with his performance. I don't get this kid, but I have to say turning this move down makes me doubt, once again, his motives in regards to his career goals. Disagree all you want, but for the last few years (by reports) this kid has shunned opportunities to play at much higher levels professionally, but has chosen the easier path (college, Sounders over Bremen). Whatever, time will tell.
I would LOVE to be a fly on the wall in JK's office today. Hopefully we get an interview with Jmo soon to get some insight. Also, that press release made it seem like the club was taking a jab at him saying he wasn't committed enough. Odd.
I'll play devils advocate Playing Bayern Munich and going up against Boateng, or playing against San Jose and Chad Barrett.
I was always a skeptic of the move, I just hope he gets major minutes from the start. Maybe Martins goes on loan
