Sat basically in their midst. Solid fans, knowledgable, pleasant - and damn it they NEVER stopped singing. That said, I wish we could have made them cry in their hipster beards. Agreed about Clark. He had three howlers in a row, if you count his last two plays on the ball in NJ and his first tonight. Shockingly complacent.
This is the team that got us to today's Cup Final. Higuain is slow but his vision got us this far. Merem flops a lot but he's scored when we needed it most. I heard other fans yelling about how bad this guy or that guy played. I'm thinking "have you watched the crew this year". They were off but it was basically the same. Maybe next year. I sit on he west upper deck. The Nordecke has such awesome potential but really no cohesion. If PTf***c taught us anything it's that chanting together is impressive.
(Except for the capo part which I have mixed feelings on,) I agree wholeheartedly with this. I remember there used to be some really creative chants/songs. Sounded like we were trying to keep up with TA tonight--they'd start one, then we'd just do our version.
Well. If that didn't just... -insert word here- The Crew just looked nervous - like they had stage fright or something those first 10 minutes. Like as they walked on the field, they realized, "Oh shit - it's the Final! Look at all the people!!!" Like others, I'm not going to make judgements on players yet as I'm still to emotional over the game to be thinking clearly, but Jesus Titty-********ing Christ... To give up a goal like we did as early as we did... And then watch Tchani give up on ANOTHER ball instead of playing to the whistle... And to put that... I can't even call it officiating. That was probably the WORST crew that I've ever seen do a game. Just... woeful. When McBride at half points it out by saying they're calling the game, "loosely", you know he's not the only one. This could have been a good game - but it was ruined. And the Nordecke has part of that blame. I don't care how pissed we get (I even laughed at the shoe incident last year) but that was downright unacceptable and a real black-eye on our Supporters base that will take a long time to live down, if ever. ********. EDIT: Then to top it off, some woman hit my car as I'm sitting there waiting for the traffic to subside. I'm stationary, with parking brake on and lights on and this woman cuts the corner short and clips my driver side front. When it rains, it pours...
And this whole fellating of the Timbers supporters - I call total bullshit. They sang the same damn chant near the whole damn game. Over and OVER and OVER. That's lame. I lost count how many times they said "Rose City". ******** that noise.
The Tchani criticism, while warranted in part, is a little off target.. He didn't give up on the play like he did in the game in the past. He thought the play was dead and was taking the ball to the sideline for the throw in. His reaction was in thinking the Portland player took the ball for their possession. It was less about giving up and more about confusion in the moment. A few other players stopped and were walking as well.
She was just saying that Portland is number one! I didn't have a dog in the fight. However, the officiating was really bad.
Hector Jimenez almost got to be a player with 3 rings even though he's never played in a Cup playoffs or final. He continues to be lucky more than he's skilled. He's got 2 rings from LA and he never played in that playoff series.
This is the team that got us to this year's cup and wasn't anywhere near up to the task. Good for them, but next year's team needs to be better and I believe that this front office can find better options for Clark, Meram and Higuain. As for the fans: Hate on it all you want, but watching ESPN tonight, the Timbers Supporters clrarly won the battle in the stands in our own house. If that doesn't make the supporters groups look at organization differently, then I don't think anything will. Feel free to go back to the "We're better because we were first" bullshit, but you will be ignoring a clear opportunity to evolve along with your club and the league.
But, you know what? It works. Many years ago, Chicago was the same way... one or two chants that hundreds did in unison. None of this "Oh, let me try to start something while a larger swarm of people one section over is doing something different" thing. College football fans are the same way. Other than school songs, most teams/schools have a very limited repertoire... but you get 90-100 (or more) thousand fans all in unison and it's impressive. Yes, it's annoying to listen to the same thing over and over and over again, but it's loud and in unison.
While you ALWAYS play to the whistle, pretty much every player stopped, even Nagbe, at first. It was pretty close to unanimous on the field, for a brief second, that the ball was out.
I'm not fellating them. They sang together, tightly. We always sound like a jumbled mess at best. I'm growing tired of even trying in the Nordecke.
And you know what? Supporters aren't there for you and me or the people on TV. They're there for the 11 guys on the field and the 7 on the bench. The Nordecke was loud and together when they needed to be. I don't give one tinker's damn if they could sing in 4 part harmony and cause Angels to descend from the heavens with their incredible sound, togetherness and whatever. Capos are a cop-out - when being a supporter turns into being part of a directed production... I would rather hear 50000 separate chants from the Nordecke than one directed by capos.
Wife and I renewed our season tix for next year this week, we're moving to the Nordecke next year. As stoked as we are about it, I doubt I'll join any of the supporters groups. Speaking as an outsider, it does seem a bit disorganized. I've never understood why the hell there are, what like 5 different groups? Say what you want about Timers Army, they were up for the match and brought it. And I talked to a few of them while waiting for noodles, they seemed alright. They said all the Cbus fans they'd talked to were cool, so I have no ill will towards them or their team. I'd love to have the whole stadium chant and sing like in Portland. I've never understood why none of the SG's or the CFO don't hand out pamplets with the lyrics to chants and songs to make it easy for everyone to join in. Like I said, doubt I'll join a SG, but my wife and I are totally down with joining TifoSweat next season.
We actually were not loud and together when we needed to be, and that was tonight. I'm there every match, cursing our inability to stay on time, or even get 101 in sync with the hooligans in 141. It is maddening. I just want it to work so much better. We don't have to be 2 song betties. We just have to pull the machine together instead of being there for ourselves like it seems like a lot of people are. Like the Nordecke is just the cool place to be, instead of a group of unified fans giving their all for the team and pushing them to do the same for us.
Anyone remember the game when Trapp took the corner kicks? Best corners we had all season. I have never understood why Higuain takes the corners. Its not like he puts a good ball in, and it would be better to have him available to take a hit if the ball pops out to the 18.
I wasn't in the Nordecke, but in the tailgate in the B lot pregame, they were a bunch of the nicest people. Postgame too.
Wait...why were the Crew sleeping somewhere other than their own beds? To make it feel like an away game? Maybe minor thing, but I don't get this.
Always a solid idea to celebrate a goal in front of the opposing fan base who is already pissed off due to inept goal keeping.
This. While what a few fans did with projectiles was not classy, their move was classless as well. I laughed when Borchers about got pegged!
