Look away kids... poor PK's in the Clemson/Maryland game. But Clemson comes away with victory (3-1 on PKs) after 1-1 tie. Congrats to the Tigers!
it seems like a lot more games are going to pens this season than i remember in years past. has anyone looked at the numbers?

I was compiling some of these, and was going to do some eight-year numbers after this tournament. Number of PK games: 2008 6 of 47, 2009 4, 2010 7, 2011 8, 2012 7, 2013 7, 2014 9 (including three QF's, and the F), 2015 7 of 41 past seven years, by round yearr1r2r3qfsfftotal 20083216 20092114 20104127 2011311128 201231217 20135117 2014311319
Speaking of PKs being a terrible way to end a game, as well as the point about it being difficult to administer them "fairly" given the tendency of some GKs to leave the line very, very early but that "cheating" almost never gets called (although I actually understand why the GKs tend to do this, and cut them some slack, as otherwise GKs have even less of a chance of making any saves) ... this week's Sports Illustrated has a short piece making the case to replace penalty kicks with both teams taking an additional player off every few minutes. I saw this a few times at various youth club tournaments, and I do think was exiting, and a lot better / "fairer" way to break a tie than PKs. I know FIFA doesn't like any changes, but the NCAA ignores a lot of the FIFA rules already ... I guess it won't ever happen, but I think it would be great if it did.
Oops my bad. I meant SJJ. Who produced this quality research.... Best way to write a poor joke. Ok I go out for today and will improve another day.
Creighton-Akron about to kick off. Akron's ability to strike quickly, combine, and sustain an attack is phenomenal; I think Creighton will score but fall, 2-1. Creighton must control midfield most of the time in order to win.
0-0 at the half. Creighton controlling midfield more of the time. But the Bluejays missed on a golden opportunity in front of the Zips' goal. Great crowd and atmosphere and the field seems in better shape than it was last week.
And thus, I heard Najem's game-winning free kick for Akron - set-up by a nice Richie Layrea run - before I saw it. Congrats to the Zips.
I had the same issue. Was a nice game-ending goal (which should make some happy it didn't go to PK's)!
So, here's the difference a good coach can make in a program. Ian McIntyre too over Syracuse in 2010 and after two seasons had built them into a national power. The year before he took over, Syracuse won 3 games. And he program had only been to the NCAA Tournament once, way back in 1984. He took his lumps the first two years, but look what they've done since. Here's their year-by-year record and RPI from 09. 2009 – 127. 3-15-0 --- 2010 – 184. 2-10-5 2011 – 179. 3-12-1 2012 – 15. 14-6-1, Round of 16 2013 – 60. 10-7-1, None 2014 – 15. 16-4-1, Round of 16 2015 – 3. 16-5-3, Final Four and counting
Friday night semifinal, then less than 2 days to the final is going to be interesting.. especially if the next games go to overtime.
Congrats to Akron. Good luck in KC. A few random ramblings; Thanks to Akron for showing the match, even with glitches (and no, that is not meant sarcastically). I appreciated getting to watch from Nebraska, and I thought the announcers were pretty good and not too homer-y. I prefer going out this way than via PKs. I recall someone on BS asking last year, after the Jays were eliminated on PKs by UMBC, if Creighton was NCAA version of Arsenal.
