Beckham's MLS Plans For Little Havana Hit Another Snag CBS Miami If this turns out to be true and it works out, it would be HUGE for MLS! Overtown is in GREAT proximity to downtown Miami. Way better than the Marlins Park geographically, that's for sure.
I understood exactly what the local news report was trying to say without the two pages of discourse on terminology.
I think Overtown would be better too. It is sketchy with a capital 'S' right now, but it seems like development from downtown, midtown, and the area along the river west of 95 (I'm not sure what that is technically) will push into Overtown sooner or later.
This could all just be Lieweke 11th hour hardball negotiation tactics... If you want several times the worth of your property that train is about to leave the station... Haven't been in Miami in years but would never have thought of Overtown as a possible stadium location... It'll be interesting to see what Beckham / Claure / Lieweke have in mind... http://www.miaminewtimes.com/news/w...ust-about-dead-overtown-could-be-next-8073798
Federal Eminent Domain actions are ridiculously rare. 75% of the time, they are conducted by the local municipal government, you know, the closest one to you and the one that has the most effect on your daily life, and the one that less than 10% of registered voters end up regularly voting for...
So... Overtown (north Downtown Miami) now? http://www.miaminewtimes.com/news/w...ust-about-dead-overtown-could-be-next-8073798 Previously, rumors placed Beckham's people were looking at this site: However, could the spot they are looking at in Overtown be the School Board land thats for sale? http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/education/article45532947.html
Garber just gave a vague answer during tonight's eastern conference final regarding Miami. "Next few weeks", "Found a good site" "Very confident, excited" "Miami is a great market And Beckham is a great asset"
Could be something, or it could not. It's a standard non answer that you really can't take anything from.
Why did Garber add an extra and unnecessary "et" to the end of that statement? Regardless, I hope this actually does work out ok for soccer, whatever the resolution.
MLS will take what they can get. Or they'll go elsewhere. But hard to see them disassociating from Beckham.
Absolutely agree here. I don't think Beckham is as important to the league as he once was (the league has simply moved on); still, he is David Beckham. They want him involved.
4th choice can only be reasonably good. Miami lost "perfect" after the 2nd public failure thanks to the brain trust of Miami gov't and Team Becks.
Time to move on to Sacramento. This stadium deal is so far off original expectations, now it's not even in the city limits. http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/David-Beckham-Abandons-Miami-MLS-Plans-Reports-358690671.html
Wow. It's probably going to be easier to get it built, but as in NYC, is it a good idea? I'm guessing we are going to hear about the newest site in the coming weeks, i'll reserve judgement until then.
We all know how Sunrise is working out for the Panthers. If you're going outside the city, might as well just promote the Strikers, IMO.
That's not what it says. Sure this story is messed up, but there hasn't been any talk of moving it outside of Miami (yet). I'm not sure why mls just doesn't give #24 to Sacramento, but that doesn't mean Miami should not be pursued.
I completely agree with this. Obviously I don't know what is going on behind closed doors but the time to give #24 to Sacramento seemed like it was 6 months ago to me. That doesn't mean they can never go to Miami. I think Miami is an important market but from the outside it just seems the time is right in Sacramento and wrong in Miami. With lots of cities clamoring for a team I don't feel MLS should go anywhere that is as forced as it is in Miami right now.
From a logical perspective, if MLS really wants the market (and I think they do), giving Becks a deadline in a challenging property acquisition environment seems counterproductive. It just invites MBU to "settle" for a less than ideal location for the sake of meeting the deadline and preserving the discount. MLS should tell Becks that they are going to be picky about location, but he has all the time he needs
