Yeah, it was the Youth Olympic Games last year in 2014. But yes indeed, it is a preview of the firepower that Papua New Guinea will be displaying against more elite competition in the 2060's. We haven't even discussed a civil war in their nation taking place in the 22nd century, in which Mauma New Guinea will be separating from Papua New Guinea. That secession will enable two great powers in women's football 103 years from now. But of course West Denmark will be tough to beat at the 2119 WWC.
Update on teams that qualified for the tournament. AFC: Japan, North Korea, South Korea CAF: 2 CONCACAF: 3 CONMEBOL: 2 OFC: New Zealand UEFA: Germany, Sweden, Spain, France Host: Papua New Guinea
New Zealand didn't exactly have a difficult time in the OFC tournament. Oct. 1 New Zealand 15 - Tonga 0 Vanuatu 4 - New Caledonia 0 Oct. 3 New Zealand 26 - New Caledonia 0 Tonga 3 - Samoa 3 Oct. 5 New Zealand 18 - Vanuatu 0 Samoa 6 - New Caledonia 2 Oct. 8 Samoa 3 - Vanuatu 3 New Caledonia 3 - Tonga 2 Oct. 10 Vanuatu vs. Tonga New Zealand vs. Samoa
Yes, but next time, when Papua New Guinea won't be the hosts, they will give them a run for ther money. Ok, ok, joking!
At least they may hold New Zealand to a single digit (9 goals or less). That's a nail biter for the Ferns to deal with in the 2nd half. NZ would actually have to run in the 2nd half, instead of walk.
Is there an archived stream of this match somewhere? I always wonder what it would be like to continue the same ratio of scoring goals per minute, like USWNT did to Japan in the first 16 minutes. It looks like New Zealand went all Carli Lloyd for an entire 90 minutes against New Caledonia (who the funk are they again?) Would be interesting to see that match.
I find it curious that FIFA has nothing really about the tournament on their website while stuff is available on the U17 world cup.
The only website for it so far is a Wikipedia page. Also, the official dates haven't been set yet for this tournament, so that's probably why FIFA doesn't have it up yet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_FIFA_U-20_Women's_World_Cup
It'll likely be held in July. The Olympics are from August 3 - 20 & the U-17 WWC is being held from Sept. 30 - Oct. 21.
Yeah, and the CONCACAF U-17 WWC Qualification tournament is in March (2016), where as the CONCACAF U-20 WWC Qualification tournament is 3 months earlier than that in December (2015). Therefore, it appears the U-20 WWC will take place "BEFORE" the U-17 WWC.
In the final round of the CAF qualifiers, the first legs were held today. Ethiopia 2 - Ghana 2 Nigeria 2 - South Africa 1 return legs are scheduled for Nov. 6. Winners qualify for the 2016 U-20 WWC.
I was looking for information on the tournament and there is a broadcasting website that actually gives the dates as: 28th of october to the 16th of November. More on the Oceania website : Minor works will bring Sir John Guise to full compliance with FIFA Stadium Guidelines, while the remaining stadia will be ready by mid-2016 at the latest.
CAF Final legs Ghana 4 - Ethiopia 0 Nigeria 1 - South Africa 0 Ghana & Nigeria qualify for the U-20 WWC.
The U-20 WWC is actually being held in November/December .......... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_FIFA_U-20_Women's_World_Cup
Early Projections for the Group Draw: Group A: Papua New Guinea, North Korea, Germany, Colombia Group B: USA, France, South Korea, Ghana Group C: Japan, Spain, Canada, New Zealand Group D: Sweden, Brazil, Nigeria, Mexico
About Conmebol : Brazil was not that good after the first 2 matches, but as host will likely reach one spot. For the second spot , Argentina and Venezuela look more solid than the Colombian team.
What are your drawing pots? Usually FIFA like them nice and even, so I expect four pots of four teams each and no unnecessary splitting of the confederations. Hence I expect the three AFC teams to be paired with New Zealand and the three CONCACAF teams to be paired with Papua New Guinea (or the other way around), but you have an Asian team in a group with the hosts and another Asian team in a group with New Zealand, which seems improbable. In addition the two CONMEBOL teams are most likely to be paired with the two CAF teams. Edit: On another thought FIFA actually change their mind each tournament. In 2014 they had a seeded pot 1 with the winners of the continental championships of UEFA, AFC and CONCACAF, but in other years they didn't do such a thing. In that case we could get something like: Pot 1 Hosts Sweden USA (most likely continental winners) Japan Pot 2 Rest UEFA + New Zealand Pot 3 2 CONCACAF + 2 CONMEBOL Pot 4 2 AFC + 2 CAF The allocations of pot 3 and pot 4 can easily be switched around, but based on strength AFC and CAF are stronger than CONMEBOL and CONCACAF without the US.
The dates have been changed again : according to the FIFA calendar it is now 13th of November to 3rd of December http://www.fifa.com/calendar/index.html
Pot 1 should be: Papua New Guinea(hosts), Germany(2014 winners), USA & France. Pot 2: Japan, North Korea, South Korea, New Zealand Pot 3: Canada, Mexico Sweden, Spain Pot 4: Nigeria, Ghana, Brazil, Colombia DRAW GROUP A: Papua New Guinea, North Korea, Spain, Ghana GROUP B: France, South Korea, Canada, Brazil GROUP C: USA, New Zealand, Sweden, Nigeria GROUP D: Germany, Japan, Mexico, Colombia
Conmebol latest results : Group A Brazil 1-0 Chile 0 Peru 1-3 Venezuela Venezuela with 9 points goes to the next round. Brazil with 7 points virtually qualified .
