You guys have a great organization, great fans and a very good team. I was at the game tonight and have just a few observations:
    1. Probably no team could lose players of the caliber of Wolff and Armas and not drop a few notches. There guys are among the very best in MLS.
    2. Stoichkov is finished. A legendary career but the Revs were stripping him of the ball all night. He is too slow for MLS now.
    3. Nowak might be finished. He also looked slow, but in his case, it could be injury, age or both. But he didn't look good.
    4. I would play Beasley much higher. He did a great job coming back, but as a Rev fan, I definitely want him always coming back to help your defense. because I DON'T want to see him attacking! I would use him as an out and out winger.
5.What can you say about Razov? I thought only the Mexicans had a patent on petulant, childish behavior. Ante needs a lengthy suspension to start the 2003 season.
I am sure you will be back strong. Nice chatting with you Fire fans!

Can't disagree with you on many of your points. Now for next year if we could have the league contract two teams and give the fire their best players on a silver platter maybe we will be ok.

Oh great, a rev's fan is telling us what he thinks!!

Do you really think we give a ************ what your opinions are. Nowak, when at full strength, is still better than Ralston or whoever is your playmaker anyday.

Beasley is an outside mid. He's dangerous attacking, but he's great on defense, and he can do both during the game. When our offense is full strength, you'll see enough attacking to take anyone in the league.

And the Razov thing, don't even f-cking start about that.

Dude...Nowak was nowhere...he was horrible tonight. Ralsotn could play four game sin a week and still run at least. Nowak is old...get over it.

He didn't do one thing right tonight..and we pegged that. That is why I wanted Chicago...he'd be on a stretcher in the first two minutes. He didn't even get close enough to a ball to dive or whine....that's pretty pathetic. it's his game.

Dude...did you read my whole post...I said, when Nowak is at full strength. The guys 74 years old, it takes longer to get back to full strength at his age, he's not quite there.

Besides, being exhausted wouldn't put him at full strength anyways, now would it.

Did any of us ever formally thank your side for sucking so hard that we made it to the playoffs in the first place?

    Thanks for sucking so hard!

We lost to NE tonight, but I have no doubt in my mind that we would have taken Columbus in two.

You've become cocky indeed to actually have wanted Chicago.

Don't let tonight's game taint your image of Nowak. In the first 10 or so games of the season he was playing better or as well as he ever had. And that is, in my opinion, better than anyone the league has ever had. He suffered a knee injury and missed a huge chunk of the season. Consider yourselves lucky.

To compare Ralston to Nowak isn't even possible, no offense to Ralston. Nowak is the best player the league has ever had and it's too bad he was never protected like some of the other stars.

As for C-bus wanting to play Nowak, I really doubt it. On a stretcher? Why, did you rehire Duhaney? That's the only way you've ever been able to stop him, through intentional injury.

  8. DuHaney is with Mainz in the Bundesliga 2. He's laid up with Ambankmitsplinterimarschverletzen, the dreaded disease that often afflicts mediocre at best German footballers.

Ralston and Nowak are two very different types of midfielders, and very good ones when on their game, but each with individual strengths and weaknesses quite different with respect to each. It's an "apples and oranges" argument, with answers of the "who's better" question being entirely subjective.

What I like about Nowak is that he sacres the Hell out of me when he's on speed and running at a defense. What I don't like is how he reverts to more chippy/less sporting philosophy if he's tired or being played out of his game.

What I like about Ralston is the consistency and patience he shows on the wing. What I don't like is how he matches up with defenders who are equally as patient (like Boca), playing tightly without overcommiting; he just hasn't developed a counter for this.

Fire had a pretty good season all things considered, adjusting their game the best they could with a pool of players decimated by injury, having great fan support in a ground that has a pitiful excuse for a pitch.

Change of season, change of attitude; you'll be a much improved team in 2003.

    Bruce & the Fire

    Bruce -

    Five for five.

Nowak is about done. I know other Fire fans don't want to admit this, but it's true ... whereas in previous years Nowak was consistently energetic, this year he was often tired, as well as hurt. Sure, he had his moments of brilliance, but all in all he was only moderately helpful to the squad.

Which places him about where Hristo was two years ago. In two years, he'll be where Hristo is today -- finished.

Beasley will kill you on the run forward, but is not especially effective when he gets the ball with several guys in front of him.

Ante has always been a punk and always will be.

Armas, Wolff, yeah we missed these guys. Especially Armas.

I think everyone needs to give Evan a shout out also. His speed and energy was greatly missed this year in my opinion.

Oh kryste, a Chicago fan complaining about the league stacking teams? Now I've heard it all.

Get rid of your dead wood and you might have some room when the draft comes around.

At any point before the season would you have traded Josh Wolff, Chris Armas and DaMarcus Beasely for Taylor Twellman, Daniel Hernandez and Brian Kamler? Don't think so.

As it was you played admirable ball with a seriously depleted team. You commanded the possession - away - but lost to a team with a good counter, good finishing, and more fight.

That's the surprising part - Bradley puts "competitiveness" at a premium but the Revs looked like they wanted it more.

    Re: Bruce & the Fire

We know Nowak is very near the end of his career, but realized that he only returned to the field less approximatly a month ago. He's not back to the from he is capable of. That said I don't know if he really will ever be back. Although he is almost finished we take it a little hard when one of the best players the league is judged so harshly. Also, you must have missed it, but Nowak has missed large stretches in more than just this season.

Make no mistake, Beasley can run at guys and beat them on most occasions. However, he was not in the form most Fire fans would have wanted him to be at during the series. He has a habbit of tracking back on defense a little too much, which isn't to say that he is a good defensive player, but his offensive talents were needed. With Armas and Whitfield back next season, if Beasley is still with us (I think he should stay one more year in MLS), and he works on his finishing, he could easily be one of the most dangerous players on the field.

Come on, call him on it. Don't you have the guts to? :)

go back and read my original post Mr. Righteous. It was no flame at all, just my analysis of the game which most Fire fans took in the spirit I intended . Again, don't like it, then don' read it.

in what league in the world would Razov's actions not earn a suspension? As for other motives for wanting that : Razov isn't good enough for having any ulterior motive.
Since he is a USA player I find his actions embarrassing. Many of us thought that the Mexicans had shown their rather unique lack of class intryingto hurt an opposition player once the gamewas lost. Turns out that we have one too.

you know, I have watched the Mathis clip several times and it is at least somewhat ambiguous. Razov's actions were more like the Mexicans' at the Cup. He was trying to really hurt Heaps badly.

Razov should absolutely be suspended, and fined heavily.

I mentioned to the Fire fan and the Crew fan that I was watching the match with, that the league needs to come down hard on Razov, or someone who does something equally as stupid (which would be very difficult to find).

A big fine and suspension. 5, maybe 10 games. Someone needs to be made an example of, and crap like Ante pulled would finally stop. The suspension won't be that large, but if it was, Ante couldn't complain. Absolutely no defense for his actions whatsoever.

It was embarrassing to be a Fire fan when he did that.

I'm Fire through and through, and have twice stood with the travelling supporters in Columbus.... but I can't back Ante on this one. The replay was atrocious.

Agree about Hristo. Sunset, horse, ride off.
Peter will probably be back, as will the Fire.
