I don't doubt you, but I haven't heard Howard call him that. Sounds a British-ism. How often is he called Mikey here? It sounds like what you call a kid. It harkens to the days of calling him Junior when his dad was manager, and then the connotation was not good.
How f'ing likely do you thing that is given the performance we saw tonight? All the MLS folk will be out of season, and the Euros will have to go to a hot and humid climate after playing through the winter in their leagues. The only weather-fit players will be the LigaMX players. He'll be back to calling in Castillo and Joe Benny.
Is this good? I'm a dumb uncultured football-ignorant American so I can't tell... USMNT (currently ranked 33rd) in their last 8 games against CONCACAF opponents: Draw vs 54th ranked Trinidad & Tobago Win vs 129th St Vincent and Grenadines Loss vs 40th Costa Rica Loss vs 24th Mexico Loss vs 65th Panama Loss vs 61st Jamaica Win vs 108th Cuba Draw vs 65th Panama 2 Wins, 2 Draws, 4 Losses... 7 of 8 games (all except Trinidad) were at home... The wins were against teams ranked 108 and 129.
Herculez Gomez, please read here hermano. Correct. I say this without trying to be sarcastic, but thanks for doing that math and giving me something to marinate on over the long layoff from tonight till late March
On mobility, quickness and possibly even technique Nagbe has the edge. But I'm not ready to crown Darlington quite yet without seeing a larger sampling of his talents against a wider range of opposition.
Yeah, got out-shot 13-6. So in the last 12 games, with 11 at home, here are the shooting stats: - out-shot opponents in 3 games: 1 vs. St. Vincent, 1 vs. Cuba after 6 defections, 1 vs. Jamaica with the keeper dropping balls regularly right in front of us and in a loss. - 8 times out-shot, 1 time even - shot deficits include 21-6 vs. Haiti, 25-5 vs. Panama, 13-6 vs. T&T, 16-5 vs. Honduras, 15-4 vs. Costa Rica It's only 2-3 down games though. We have to stop the immature reactions in criticizing the direction under Klinsmann. And what few problems there are fall fully on the players. What, do we expect Klinsmann to work miracles with them, getting them to out-play other teams in the top 10 in CONCACAF? Couldn't do it before Lord Klinsmann blessed us inferior football rubes with his presence.
Haha - true in forums or other. But my experience with the British is they turn everyones name into an "ey." Davey, Mikey, Johnny, etc... when playing at least.
We have to give them credit. T&T have improved more than we have since 1989...by about a goal at home.
#USMNT are 0-3-3 in our last 6 games against CONCACAF foes in the top 100 of the FIFA rankings. Five of those games were at home.— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) November 18, 2015
Well said. There's no defending Bradley's play tonight. He looked out of it. He wasn't as bad as Phil Schoen was saying, but he was bad. He looked to be playing...whatever the opposite of playing on instinct is. Everything seemed labored, mentally, for Michael.
Throw out Cuba and SV&G and you have what would be a reasonable Hex. In that hypothetical, we've played 6 of ten games. Four at home. (I'm generously considering Mexico in LA a road game.) We have three points. Say that again: with only four games left to play in the Hex (and only one game left at home) we'd have three points. Playing like we have this year, qualification is very much a long shot. It really is time to stop this now pointless experiment.
Would have liked that win but I can live with this. Decent second half and no gaffes. Finishing was trash. I like Nagbe in there, just feels like we can trust him with the ball. Looking forward to next year.
Yes, it is clear that the region as a whole has stepped it up a notch or 2. Much tougher road here on out.
Zardes's year on the wings at LA somewhat stalled his development at forward. He has been quality at midfield, however. Bradley's decline has been very noticeable. I am not sure what to make of it. Perhaps it's Klinsmann's physical regimen finally wearing him down.
How poorly for how long does Mike have to play until someone else gets a chance centrally? 1) We have almost no one who can challenge him centrally as a key fulcrum but Nagbe is the rare player in this current pool who could, likely the only one and 2) we won't see how Nagbe handles it centrally against better competition until he's actually played centrally. The issue is the trend here. Poor performances in the WC and GC, mediocre club play and little evidence it's going to turn around for Mike. This isn't just NT form. Meanwhile, we know Nagbe is one of the top 2-3 central runners in MLS, a more natural attacker, better dribbler and probably hungrier than at any point in his career. Still, I'd go to a 3-5-2 as it fits our pool better and could use both Mike/Nagbe centrally. But in a 4-4-2, if you play Nagbe wide and have Mike in the space Nagbe should be, he's going to be wasted.
Don't think he was serious, and if you think it's more likely the whole region improved as opposed to just us regressing, you're being super naive We have to step it up a notch or two because we've stepped it down a notch or two since summer, possibly the World Cup with some masking friendly wins in there.
The problem with that is if Michael does not get the ball off his feet fast it will slow the attack down.
