Don't think I saw this anywhere else, but Edwin Gorter's best bud, David Nakhid's bid for the FIFA Presidency has ended. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/fifa-a...tial-race-nakhid-excluded-093313207--spt.html BTW - one of the candidates has the best name ever -- Tokyo Sexwale. I could have even more fun with this name the Septic Bladder.
For no other reason than the name, it would be epic if Tokyo Sexwale won the FIFA presidency! But this part made me LOL: "FIFA's three-man election panel, led by audit committee chairman Domenico Scala, will announce next month which of the seven candidates have been officially accepted after integrity checks by the FIFA ethics committee." Or who didn't grease enough palms.
And if you read the details of Nakhid's elimination, 5 recommendations are required, and Nakhid had 5, however one of his also recommended someone else--so apparently Nakhid is out, but the someone else isn't?
Another oddity today. It looks like Abby Wambach's web site might have been hacked on the day she announces her retirement. I don't think her primary accomplishment is "Cheap Michael Kors handbags." BTW, don't got to her site to check, as hacked sites can host malicious software.
From another thread: I'd still like to see Agudelo get much more PT, his ceiling is higher. The Davies we saw vs. NYCFC was terrific, switched to the full "on" position, unlike the Davies we had seen for many many games. Maybe that level of "on" would have carried to the DC game, maybe not. Along those lines -- The same could be said about the Revs team as a whole. A switch was flipped for the final regular season do-or-die game vs. NYCFC. Almost as if they decided to bring out higher effort and concentration only when pressed to the wall. That is a dangerous mindset for a team, or player, to have. It is hard to count on being able to turn "excellence" on and off as needed. It starts from the top. BK/JK only opened the wallet when the press started to take notice and ask a decent # of questions in multiple forums - i.e., only when they were pressed to the wall and their air cover had been stripped away. One could conclude that the rest of the org, over time, has started to emulate that behavior.
It starts at the top, #NERevs. Only be (spend) #GoodEnough 2 get 2 playoffs. Provides anothr yr of #AirCover and #StandPat. Players see all— A Casual Fan (@A_Casual_Fan) October 4, 2015
Seems like the new stadium talks have died down, but now that the season's over I'm sure I'll hear it again!
I know it couldn't have happened last night due to the injury to Agudelo, but I'd love to see both of them on the pitch at the same time. I'll be surprised if we ever see it under Coach Heaps, unfortunately.
Watching Bournemouth lose to Newcastle today (Are you out there, Magpie?), I was struck by the thought that the cherries are the most Rev-like team in the EPL.
Wow, I had forgotten about that. That was in 20111, and really, how much has changed since then? So has Burns really been doing this for 10-11 years? And I love the comments. It's always a red flag when someone starts every other sentence with "Listen..." and "As I've said before,..." Anyone think he doesn't deserve all the criticism he's getting? Anyone? For no other reason than having a good "public face" for the team, they need to have someone on staff with the personality to speak to fans/media in an engaging manner, so we don't have to suffer through vapid soliloquies like this from Burns. Ray Hudson would be perfect for that role, but no way the "Think inside the box" Krafts would ever consider him.
I find it very irritating that after the season came to such a sudden and crashing halt, there's been no "message to supporters" from team management. Basically, it's just been silence. No statements about how disappointing it was, recognition of the issues, plans to bounce back, etc., etc.
Honest question because I don't know. Have the Krafts via the team ever released a "we're so disappointed" message to fans? Forget accountability (I highlighted in bold) because we know they think they walk on water down there. I just don't remember them ever thanking the fans or having any kind of "we'll get 'em next year" message from ownership in the past. Edit: Jon Kraft thanked the fans who were at MLS Cup in LA last year: “We probably had a good 1,200 Revs fans there. And they were loud. You could hear them in the stadium. And I know they’re not listening to this, but I want to thank them for being there. It was not a fun way to end a special season.”
Hey, so long as the Rev's are lurching towards financial solvency and the attendance is on the up and up, the Kraft's will maintain an ersatz soccer club. Once people go from pink hat and treating this as a good night out for swoccah entertainment for the kids and start giving a rat's ass, and maybe start voting with their feet, then maybe we go from ersatz to a real club, and Kraft gets serious about not tolerating mediocrity. Until then, get yer kicks at Gillette!! PS: I know 3 pink hat youth soccer families, who've been coming more regularly as of the last two seasons. Their eyes are now beginning to see. The fog is beginning to lift. They are beginning to become passionate and now that they see what the FO is about, they are getting pissed!!!
Speaking of talking..... I haven't heard boo from the Kraft's about the Rev's crashing out of the season. Have I missed anything? Has anyone else heard or seen a statement? I can bet my bottom dollar that if the Pat's crashed out prematurely, we would have heard a lot from the Kraft's in the media. That's more proof that this is an ersatz club.
Actually I can't remember any comment from Kraft after Pats eliminated from playoffs. He lets Belichick handle the media with those type things.
I don't expect or care to hear anything from the Krafts, but the team management should feel like something needs to be said. More than the Pats, I can't imagine any pro sports team not making some kind of end of season communique - something along the likes of: the season didn't end they way we wanted, we have plans to address our needs, we're getting right back to improving the team, ... whatever.
Exactly. And that's why I feel this is still an ersatz club masquerading as a real club. It's like a new building going up that has computer generated graphical skin draped over the outside, as a fake facade, to depict the real building until it is completed.
Wasn't there someone hired about 4 seasons ago that came from the Rapids (I think) that was supposed to engage the supporters?
Yeah, what ever happened to him? He seemed like a nice guy, but he was in a tough spot. We fans can rant all we want here, and someone like Marcus might agree with a lot of what we say (need to bring in new players, etc.), but as a company man, he can't exactly go in and ask Burns why he didn't sign anyone...
