Coloccini could and should have done much better there, but the send off was exceedingly harsh. Sunderland cash in. Yedlin lively, but lacking quality on the ball.
I don't want to jinx it but I have been pleasantly surprised with Yedlin's defending. He's had a number of blocks and clearances and did his job for the most part. He had one real chance to send in a cross and mishit it.
Newcastle have attacked mostly down Sunderland's left side, but whenever the ball has gone down Yedlin's side he's been there to harass the attacker or cut out the cross. Going forward he's not done much but launch the ball at Fletcher's head, but his teammates really haven't been looking for him either. An exceedingly ugly game where Sunderland are fortunate to be ahead. At times Yedlin must feel like he's playing for the US.
Yedlin's done what's been required of him, but hasn't had much a chance to show anything. Newcastle preferring to go down Sunderland's left hand side, and Sunderland can't put more than two passes together.
Strikers getting no support, an invisible midfield, defending 70-80% of the time, perfect training for what it's like to play with the US.
Small favors with the two subs Sunderland has already made means the chances of Yedlin going 90 is pretty good.
Man Sunderland is terrible. I have no confidence in any of their players to make anything happen in the attack.
Sunderland holding the ball more due to their numerical superiority, but you're right, doesn't look like they're gonna do anything with it.
There is just no central theme to how sunderland play. Just 11 guys who showed up and when you see a striped shirt you pass to it. Yedlin just made a 35m run that absolutely staggered me. He crossed my screen in under a second it seemed like.
cattermole delivered the ball to the player on a plate, Yedlin went down for the block. Noooooo one blamed Yedlin on that play.
I think his teammates were staggered to because they just stood there and watched him make the run instead of getting into position to take a pass.
