Anyone following Marvin Zeegelar at Rio Ave. Looks like a interesting character both at LB and LW. Was promising when at Jong Ajax but was shifted out never to return.
Apparently this is was just a joke by couple of Dutch journalists that was taken seriously by the Spanish media. lol Asencio is a good player, I think I talked about him in the Youth thread before.. But yeah, he is defiantly not "Dutch". CDPontaDelgada talked about him before I think.
Linked to Sporting CP, FC Porto and Valencia CF IMHO after Alex Sandro left Porto to Juventus, Zeegelaar is the best LB in Portugal.
Blind Sr. lost it completely if this is indeed the case... he had best LB in Portugal at his disposal, but opted for a 19-yr old raw talent and played him out of position.
I see what your saying but a lot has to do with clubs. Marvin plays for Rio Ave so for him to get a call up to a prestigious NT like Holland whilst playing for Rio Ave seems very unlikly
I can only speak about what I know I don't watch much Dutch Eredivisie games due to not being able to get it on TV I do watch online streams. But with no bias if Zeegelaar was Portuguese he would get called up to at minimum friendly games like the games we recently played against France Zeegelaars story is earily similar to that of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink a player that got his big chance in Portugal
I've been thinking... can someone here tell me whether or not it's possible that Pep could end up managing at Ajax? It seems that in order for the national team to get it's house in order, Ajax needs to do it first. I feel that Pep could be a guy that is capable of bringing back good football to Amsterdam. I know he's Spanish, but I can't imagine ANYONE caring about that. At the end of the day, he's a much a product of the Ajax school of thought as he is anything else. Just a thought. Maybe I'm way off in left field, but I don't think so....
Not a chance. He is way out of the clubs budget range and there isn't anything for him to achieve here.
Why not? Wouldn't Bringing Ajax back to the top level of European football be something worth achieving? And I have a hard time believing Ajax can't afford him. If he would be willing to manage there..Ajax would find a way to pay him.
How would he do that? Suppose Ajax would miraculously find 3 or 4 world class talents. How long would they last in the first team before the big money teams move in? A manager is only as good as the players at his disposal. This isn't 1990 anymore, players follow the money. I'll settle for a coach who will make the team play good football again.
Ajax need to branch out Scandinavia only has so much talent Countries like Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Bulgaria all have very good talents and players that don't cost a fortune the income from selling these quality players would allow Dutch clubs to produce Dutch talent like bergkamp, Ruud Gullit etc In order for Ajax to thrive they need to buy low and sell for 25M minimum if other clubs don't like it too bad look elsewhere it boggles my mind how dumb Eredivisie club execs and owners are clubs from big leagues will always overpay and start bidding wars Regardless
Fair enough. Maybe it's too big of a goal to for Ajax to ascend to the top of European Football again. But it's not too much to expect to play good football, and to help develop world class players. I look at how Pep has had all his squads play and I can't help but dream that maybe... just maybe...
O on a lighter note I see your a new member welcome friend and also I like your name probably the most Dutch name you could of chosen
It's hard to find videos of Marvin on YouTube but this website has many videos of plays by him http://videos.sapo.pt/zEUwet35rKTGqt0y4S7Z
Isn't this also a thing of cultural affinity and cultural connections? As well as the role of agents/superagents and third parties? Ever since PSV departed from Lemic they haven't been able to attract that quality of talent. Former Porto manager Co Adriaanse claimed that FC Porto has outsourced their entire scouting.
Porto I believe has over 400 scouts right now spread throughout the globe. But regardless of cultural affinity you have to ask yourself why are Dutch clubs selling talented players for very low sums examples being Dries Mertens, Bony, Corona, etc
Because teams outside of the traditional top 3 don't play much European football so their talents are unproven at a greater stage. Braga Vitoria etc, don't sell player for as much as Porto, Benfica and Sporting either.
IIRC, Ajax got good money for Sneijder, Suarez and Huntelaar when they were sold. The only recent transfers who were probably worth more money than Ajax received were Eriksen, Vertonghen, and Alderwiereld. The others were likely valued fairly.
