Wow, they are on a roll. Gladbach have moved up to 10th with 4 straight wins by a combined score of 14-4.
No it probably just reinforced his view that he was 100 percent correct in doing and saying what he did. Perhaps FJ just signed the end of his U.S. MNT career.
Fabian's one of our best players. I don't want to make this into the Klinsmann coaching thread, but as has happened in other cases, you can't alienate your best players because you don't like something they did. We don't have the talent of Germany or Brazil.
I hope that isn't the case. He's too good a player to leave in the wilderness. Whatever the circumstances, he's been a stellar performer for the US. Dump Klinsmann before you turn your back on FJ.
Look I can't stand JK at this point. But to ask to leave the field with a few minutes left in extra time and then claim possible injury and then to play a full match the next week? It looks real bad, and while I could care less about JK, what do you think the rest of the U.S. MNT thinks?
They shouldn't think anything. As someone who has suffered from multiple knee injuries I can certainly relate with Fabian's situation. I've had situations where I've felt something coming on and needed to pull myself out before things got worse. I've also been able to recover as early as the next day without any issues.
Exactly. Why is this so hard for people to grasp. Sometimes there is something going on and a player still suits up a couple days later. Not every injury is catastrophic. Plus, he is coming back from an injury.
JK is using Fabian to deflect attention away from his most recent failings. If we win the Mexico game then none of this comes out. Players pull themselves out of games all of the time and most of the time we never hear anything else about it.
Yeah - posted elsewhere but repeated cause I like to watch myself post. Replace Fabio with Regis (or Reyna), and JK with Arena and imagine the shipstorm. BS would have invaded Martinique, and St. Martin, just caused it's spelled similar. If JK's reason to keep him on the field wasn't so lame-ish and if FJ had not been so recently on the IR, Fabio would get no leeway at all. But JK's history does affect the spin a bit.
^The rest of the USMNT is full of guys that are professionals and should understand this stuff happens(taking yourself out if you feel an injury coming on). This should be a non issue. The team is in a weird spot.
Just tonight Adi requested and got subbed when he felt something wasn't right. Porter asked Adi, on his way off, if he was alright and Adi just shrugged and sat on the bench. Pros need to manage their bodies as they see fit.
It would, however, be seen as being a bit of baby in certain players, especially in as big a game as the Mexico game was. Meaningless friendly or even group match is a different story, but waning minutes of a must win... Well, Jurgen knew right then and there that Fabio would be good to go this weekend. An injured pro being overly-cautious, ok. But it does raise an eyebrow.
The man's body is his work tool. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt if he thinks his livelihood is on the line. Was he going to be any more effective by pushing his body to the breaking point? I have no problem with the effort he gave, which he's always given for the Nats.
The fact that JK was so confident Fabio was going to play is what makes it, uh, interesting. I am not going to defend JK's player management skills, and I agree a guy has to listen to his body, but it's is not very common a player takes himself out at the stage of the game and is not genuinely injured. Most players want to stay on when they clearly can't/shouldn't go any longer, especially late in that kind of game, not the other way around. Then again, most coaches listen to their players when the indicate they can't go any longer, so it's a bit of a catch 22...
Yeah, I'm trying to pull the JK-hate out of the equation, but I don't think that's really possible at this point. As I post ^^^, it's a bit unusual for a player to pull themself out at that point without being more obviously distressed, but it's also odd for a coach not to listen to a player who asks to be subbed. Stalemate.
JK can think whatever he wants. FJ has just come off an injury and has injured himself trying to push himself with the national team. It's normal for him to be cautious. Anyway, this should not be a huge deal. JK can be upset with it, but this could have been a quiet conversation in the lockerroom. I fail to see the need to expell someone from the team and question his ethics towards the team publicly. Sit him like he did Jozy (FJ's performances haven't been great as of late, let's not confuse that with effort though), if he wants an effect. Guys like Jones should have taken themselves out, maybe the 2nd goal would have been prevented when he and Beasely were caught sleeping.
