Practically avatar-worthy. In fact, this really ought to be "the" Sepp Blatter photo for every Blatter-related story on the internet from now until we stop talking about him.
Not terrible but I think a better joke could have been made. Then again, its a German joke, so my expectations should be low.
It's quite funny, actually, since the same people involved with some of these scandals have been named in the committees investigating the scandals, and are getting paid for it.
Germany reportedly bribed FIFA for 2006 World Cup German magazine Der Spiegel says money was used to secure votes of Asian representatives on FIFA's executive committee. http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/...ibed-fifa-2006-world-cup-151016164759212.html German football association investigating payment to FIFA Spiegel magazine has raised suspicions about the tournament in Germany having been bought by the DFB, saying that the late former head of Adidas Robert Louis-Dreyfus had secretly filled a Swiss bank account with 10.3m Swiss francs, the equivalent at the time of 13m Deutsch Mark, or €6.7m. The DFB said it had initially started an investigation into the awarding of the 2006 World Cup to Germany, partly because of speculation about it in the media. http://www.ifreepress.com/4722-german-football-association-investigating-payment-to-fifa/ There is no end to it.
I don't think FIFA is finished, but the FIFA as we knew it is definitely going to take a major hit. The problem I'm seeing with all of these investigations is that it almost seems like if Sepp had coded the payment to Platini as "payment for presidential election help" or something stupid then it would have been okay? Heads are going to roll around the world and the power grab will be interesting as I can't help but to think 90% of the people that survive are still going to be crooks looking to stick their hands in the cookie jar. And why? Just give everybody $10k per day per diems and $2.5 million per year salaries or something dumb like that...FIFA could afford it I'm sure.
Things are kind of quiet on the FIFA front, at least publicly: http://www.fifa.com/about-fifa/news...pproves-more-transparency-for-et-2719441.html In other actions they suspended the Kuwait Football Association and established a "normalization committee" for the football association in Thailand
The WC in Russia will happen. It's the Qatar cup that has to be stopped. I'm not all that optimistic this will be done, but revelations (hardly revelations at this point...more like business as usual) about past bribes to win the 2022 vote are sure to continue to emerge as the probe into the maelstrom of FIFA malfeasance continues. It will take some mighty big balls to stand in Qatar's way at this point...or a smoking gun so unpalatable as to render Qatar's hosting of the largest global soccer tournament (just typing that is enough to say, Qatar...WTF?) null & void.
When Blatter pulled that white card with the word 'Qatar' on it out of the envelope every right minded fan KNEW the fix was in. Just had to be bribes all over the place, we ALL knew it and finally something is being done about the FIFA Mafia. I do not believe FIFA, as we now know it, will exist in 2022 (hell it may not exist in 6 months)...
Yes, but geopolitically, taking the WC away from Russia was never a realistic option, especially given the state of the globe now. The one that is a realistic option for taking as long as a majority of the room isn't beholden to their bribes is Qatar.
Fifa investigations are definitely expanding . . . FIFA investigating 11 officials including Franz Beckenbauer and head of Spanish FA http://www.skysports.com/football/n...ding-franz-beckenbauer-and-head-of-spanish-fa
Not saying it shouldn't be done but this only strengths the Asian and African cess pool of corruption canidate they will put into office after all of this. It's almost like FIFA is trying to discredit the West to protect those deep dark shadows everyone knows about already.
At this point I think it's safe to assume they're all corrupt. Sunlight is the best, probably only disinfectant for this situation.
When two of the games greatest players of all time (Platini and Beckenbauer, definitely the former, not yet proven for the latter, but would you be surprised if Franz was just as guilty?) turn out to be corrupt administrators, who is left to put one's trust in? These men were adored and admired the world over for the way in which they played the game; they breathed life into the sport as supremely talented athletes. Now, none, even the most honored ex-players, seem to be above the lure of money in this ever widening cesspool we know as FIFA.
It is a great photo, but the one of him grimacing as the money (fake but very realistic looking) flies around is priceless.
