He did very well. But Chelsea are a basketcase this year, so its kinda hard to judge him.

I give vDijk an 8 out of 10

Would love to see Chelsea relegated but I think Mourinho will do enough to avoid the drop.

I agreed. Van Dijk was good defending in the air. When there is a chance he would go forward attacking. Could have earned a penalty for Ivanovic's fault that the ref missed. On the other hand, Chelsea was bad (only Hazard was decent).

I did not watch Newcastle destroyed by M. City. Read that Krul, Janmaat, Anita and Wijnaldum were either average or below average. Disappointed to hear. Van Ginkel and Afellay came off the bench and not much. Lens scored for Sunderland and then red carded.

Janmaat looks very unhappy playing for NCU. I dont think he's going to last very long there

Ever since Alan Shearer retired I don't think there has been a Newcastle player who has been happy playing there!

Depay virtually invisible for 45 minutes. Rightly subbed at halftime

Propper had a good game against Ajax, he should be called in Oranje!
Hoedt at Lazio was ok too!

Memphis is an amateur on ball. No control, no composure, no calmness. Opposite of Bergkamp almost. I do not agree that he was invisible. He actually got enough balls and sees enough of the ball to do something positive. His teammates do look for him (unlike Sergio Roberto at Barca who stood like 5 minutes free some games ago and all the stars just ignored him and tried to find space by passing to each other. It was so weird to me). It is also not that he does not want to or that he comes on with a bad attitude. So far he lacks the quality. Look at that younger french kid Martial and then look at Memphis. If there are still people who think all is fine with Dutch youth education and that drastic changes are not needed, then this will be the future. Silk goes out of the window, steel is what we are left with.

However I watched the Ajax vs PSV game in full and wanted to know what people think of Jorrit Hendrix? I remember liking him ever since the U17 final where he won the Euro with his team. He actually keeps a guy like Maher on the bench, directly or indirectly. I have seen some pretty bad stuff of him here and there, where he really messed up, but he is climbing. I think most people agree with that notion. I would say he was the best man on the field or at least in the top 3. In the Arena, against Ajax. If Bazoer gets mentions here, Jorrit should too. Funny they always played together at PSV in the youth, both as defenders, now both operating on midfield.

I payed some attention to Bazoer this game and what I did not like was his passing range. He does have some good long balls here and there, but it also goes wrong where it should not. I am not saying he does not have any forward creative passing, but it must become far more magical to consider him a very special talent. He did had a nice action vs Hendrix at the side line, injured himself a bit there as well.

Tete remains a question mark concerning attacking output, but he can defend. Like it. I am not sure in games we have to win it is wise to play with such a defender, but he is an interesting prospect to have against good countries.

I wished that Sinkgraven was developed. That is actually a player with some silk, but he did not play.

Any midfielder in the league can have a good game against Ajax. I don't think Propper was especially good, bad or indiferent; he was never defended against.

He messed up mainly when he played as a CB. As a DM he is ok, not great but probably can be an option for NT.
At this moment the options are Clasie, Blind and Anita, eventually Bazoer later. So he can compete for a short term, even if I don't rate his defensive abilities that high.

How is Ake doing now ?

  14. He made the PSV goal possible by neutralizing the off side of the PSV attacker at least with 1.5 meter, while he had full view of the developing situation. He should have the brains of a defender to make two steps to put them off side.
I'm not convinced at the moment, mainly because of his inexperience vs other defenders we have.

Well apparently Bazoer is an option now. Danny called him up to the senior squad to replace Klaassen because he picked up a concussion.

It really sucks that Rekik was benched today vs. PSG; Ibrahimovic would have been a solid test for him on the heels of our two upcoming matches.

Should Blind call up Propper instead of Bazoer to replace Klaassen? Elia is called up to replace Promes. Both call up are injury related.

^^^ Yes personally I would have called up Propper instead of Bazoer as I thought he was better last match and is much more experienced. Bazoer is no doubt very talented but it is also a great deal of pressure especially for an 18 year old, but we'll see how he does if he ends up playing.

I did not realize he played his first full game and it looks like he is working towards more minutes. That being said, on left back. I can not see him succeed there big time. Maybe on the level of Watford, but I have seen him a number of times in Dutch youth teams there and he failed IMO. Not good enough. How is he going to take care of attacking output? He is a shape keeper, a DM, maybe a central defender, good for the ball circulation, not a crazy athlete with a big engine going up and down. In England they will consider him too small for a central defender. His passing is not interesting enough maybe as a DM. I do have a soft spot for him though. Back at U17 he could look so commanding in DM at times. Oozed a bit of class. I worry they have turned him into a regular home, garden and kitchen player. Anyway, Fox only has a handful of EPL games per weekend. When they play a big club I will have a chance to have a good look at him.

Regarding Hendrix, well, I also remember him being brushed aside as a DM. That being said, he starts to become a player they build on. He keeps pretty nice players on the bench. Hendrix and Guardado is quite nice on midfield in terms of Eredivisie. I think the NT will not see Narsingh anymore so soon. Looking at that Uruguay kid that made the 2 goals, he scored both coming a bit from the right. I can see Lestiene coming from the left, him from the right, Luuk in center and Narsingh on the bench. That means Promes will get more chances if Robben has an injury ridden season.

When will the Oranje selections start making sense again? There is literally no reason I can think of to take Bazoer over Propper at this point. There is nothing he does better.
