Not really. There are still more matches on TV today than ever before. More than is even possible for an unemployed coach potato to watch. Furthermore, depending on the source (and judging by the complaining on this Board), the streaming viewing experience can still range anywhere from "slightly worse than HDTV" to "worse than if I had no-way to watch the game at all", as I've said before. There's a reason the streaming channels are called "FoxSoccer2Go", "TSNGo", etc. It's because its not great, but when you're not around a TV or TV isn't an option then streaming can be a last resort. Like radio was back in the 1960s.
Agreed with the present. But cable TV is going to change dramatically in the next 5-10 years. Of course people like Jay will adapt with the changes and get streaming boxes to replace/supplement their cable/sat boxes.
Would also include that it can be the exact same as watching in HD in that range you've created. Or slightly better with a stream, if it's an ESPN stream(commentary related) in comparison to a beIN broadcast in HD. Not all streaming is created equal. I don't have Fox's streaming service, but ESPN's rarely has an issue compared to the constant complaints about beIn's, NGSN, or others. Never seem to see complaints about fubo. Still waiting to see if fubo can pick up beIN's new connect channels.
I was under the impression ESPN was no longer able to carry English language Champions League matches on its networks (I thought they were only available via ESPN3/WatchESPN). However ESPN is broadcasting the Bayern Munich game on ESPN2. When did ESPN get these rights?
I bet they bumped up their FOX sub-license to include a Tuesday/Wednesday group stage match on ESPN2 in English. Interesting: http://espnmediazone.com/us/press-r...e-kicks-off-on-espn-deportes-espn2-and-espn3/
Interesting. I guess this is a way for ESPN to keep its involvement in European club soccer for a few years.
I just noticed that the CL Highlights show is 60 minutes compared to 30 minutes last year. So, it's not only goals anymore. Yay...
It looks as if Fox is using UEFA feed commentary rather than Sky commentary for any matches shown on delay (including re-airing whatever aired live on ESPN). The PSG-Malmo game had Dave Farrar calling the game and he's not a Sky announcer. I'm happy about this move because the Sky guys just seem too far removed from most of the continental sides, whereas the guys hired by UEFA are calling a lot of different games. Of course, as I write all the time, the one constant with US TV networks is inconsistency. So, this positive move with commentators is balanced out with the return of the news crawl on FS2 for almost all delayed broadcasts. The PSG-Malmo game did not feature the crawl, but Olympiacos-Bayern and Valencia-Zenit both had crawls. I haven't had a chance to watch other games on FS2 but I expect the crawl will appear. I went with the cardboard in front of the screen routine again, so I can't say if the crawl featured spoilers for the games that were airing. I am guessing that was the case given Fox's history with this crap in the past.
Ah, that makes sense then. BTW, I'm way behind because of a crazy work week, but just started watching Wolfsburg-CSKA on ESPN Deportes. Clean screen. Amazing. ESPN and ESPN2 have used clean screens but Deportes has historically not made that move, sticking with the news crawl. Did ESPN Deportes use clean screens for all of their broadcasts?
While I'm sure most of us prefer the cardboard... 1) Watch ESPN 2) Become annoyed at ticker 3) ???? 4) Profit
I just added similar information to the Bundesliga on Fox thread, but I realize there are those who are fans of the UEFA CL who do not follow the German league, so forgive the repetition. For those with Verizon FIOS, Fox Sports 2 HD has finally been added (channel 584), Although currently, the on-screen guide is a little strange...as I said in the other post: "Currently, the FIOS on-screen guide for FS2HD is in Spanish, featuring shows that indicate it is Fox Sports programming, but including soccer from Italy, Argentina, and Belgium, as well as Euro League Beach Soccer, in addition to more familiar Fox Sports fare like Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League. I wonder what country these listings belong to.....reminiscent of beIN's recent problems with their TV Guide on their site"
http://www.locatetv.com/listings/fox-sports-plus-hd is in Spanish, so the listings problem didn't start with Fios. Thanks for telling me Fios added Fox Sports 2 HD. http://www.foxsports.com/tv-listings has listings for Fox Sports 2 direct from Fox and in English. According to that, here's next week UEFA Champions League schedule: Tuesday: Barcelona-Bayer Leverkusen on Fox Sports 1 Arsenal-Olympiakos on Fox Sports 2 Bayern Munich-Dinamo Zagreb on ESPN2 Porto-Chelsea delayed on Fox Sports 2 at 8:00 P.M. (I'm guessing this will be live on the Fox regional sports networks) Wednesday: Manchester United-Vfl Wolsburg on Fox Sports 1 Borussia Monchengladbach-Manchester City at Fox Sports 2 Juventus-Sevilla on ESPN2 Malmo FF-Real Madrid delayed on Fox Sports 2 at 8:00 P.M. (I'm guessing this will be live on the Fox regional sports networks)
You are correct that the FS2 8 pm matches can be seen live on the regional sports network (MSG+ in NY). Also, at 10 pm on Tues and Wed, FS2 is showing the match that was live on ESPN2 earlier that day. The on-screen guide has the correct listings for FS2 SD (ch 84), so it is strange that the listings on FS2 HD are so messed up. I guess it is manual recordings on the DVR until they get it straightened out.
If there's an early (noon ET) game on FS Deportes, does anyone know why they don't patch an English-language commentary through via SAP? I get that it's a Spanish-language channel and they've seemed real hesitant to do English SAP lately, but when the game isn't available in English on another channel and they have English-language rights, it only makes sense. Likewise, the 10 AM games... I assume those will also be on some combination of FS Deportes and FS Plus?
Up for Matchday #2: http://soccertvblog.com/uefa-cl-tv/ And for those who care, Europa League TV schedule up as well: http://soccertvblog.com/uefa-el-tv/ Worth a mention: FoxSports-1 will have a tripleheader of live Europa League action on Thursday!! SA www.soccertvblog.com
Matchday 2 happened and Match 3 is coming up. Paris Saint-Germain vs. Real Madrid will be in English only on Fox Soccer Plus. Fox Sports 1 is showing MLB playoffs then.
Has anyone figured how espn games are chosen? Based on game selection, it looks like Espn2 gets the 4th pick and Espn Deportes gets the 2nd pick on spanish side. Is this right or was it ever announced how it works.
That says Porto-Maccabi Tel Aviv will be delayed on Fox Deportes tomorrow at 4:30 P.M. http://www.locatetv.com/listings/fox-sports-en-espanol#20-Oct-2015 agrees with you, but Fios thinks Fox Deportes is showing MLB playoffs then.
