The final score is: 1 - 1 GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G P.S. = Please don't post results of other soccer (including MLS) games and other sports' games in this thread until at least 24 hours after they've ended.
That was the warmest evening game all season. And the most glaring. A draw was a fair result, but how did they not get a few more cards? Is it just ok to chop down mpg repeatedly?
The bobblehead distribution was poor. You can give these things away to 7500 people when they are spread out in both time and space as they arrive at multiple entrances over a thirty minute period, or you can send everyone to one place all at the same time.
Empty stadium, empty performance. Only in SAN-JO-SE, I think we got a bit of "neigh neigh" for this performance as well....God, we replace one wretched announcer for another.
The stadium was as full as always. Lots of families watched the game on the grass by the big board. Plus standing room people. And do you mean the PA announcer? Then yeah, we downgraded.
I'm not sure what the logic was behind that distribution decision, but there was no way we were going back to the 7-Up area after the game to pick up those guys. Well, I guess we'll always have August. Quincy and Wondo are flickering embers of what they were last month. Godoy had a few nice moments, but there doesn't seem to be any way to put that puzzle back together. Credit to the lesser luminaries who kept the game (somewhat) on track. The lights were horrible, though. And the sound system seems to get worse with every game. I wouldn't be surprised if every other team in the league has better acoustics than we do.
Not an unfair result, but definitely a missed opportunity. Thought Fatai did well on the backline and, along with Clarence, did a good job with Dempsey and Martins. Hope Clarence's knock isn't serious. And, not sure at this point why we're even bothering with Adam Jahn. It doesn't seem like he's winning that many headers, and when he does it doesn't seem like we're really getting good opportunities off of the knock downs. When Quincy needed to come off, perhaps we would have been better off bringing Tommy Thompson on with MPG and trying to play through or over the Seattle backline.
I got 2 bobble heads. The red line took about 10 min, and getting out of the VIP lot tonight was ok too. BuT I sure don't understand the reason for the post-game distribution. They could have done that pre-game in a different part of the stadium (e.g., at all the concession stands, which usually have no lines).
But the game was a real disappointment. First half was so listless. I don't even care if we make the playoffs, cuz we are too inconsistent to go very far anyways.
Valdez doesn't seem to be a popular player amongst Seattle's starters. When he went down, not a single Seattle player came over to him nor approached him when he left the field. I could see Dempsey saying something to Waldo about him when Valdez called for himself to be subbed out after shanking a shot on goal.
Another disappointment. Playoff teams don't lose a lead at home two weeks running. Hard to analyze such a dreadful, lackluster, boring game. MPG should start. If Adam Jahn is the answer, you are asking the wrong question. Defeating Drogba and the Québécois is a must.
I didn't get the reasoning for doing it post-game, but it really wasn't that bad. Of course, if we parked on-site and were trying to beat traffic, I might have felt differently. Blue line was 3 minutes or so. I hadn't seen clutching and grabbing like Seattle was doing in the box since the '90 Detroit Pistons.
Danny Miller was at the Sharks rookie scrimmage vs. the Ducks. We caught the first two periods before heading over. Ted Ramey sounded at times like no one gave him the script.
my friend asked the customer relations people and they told him its now league policy to do giveaways after the game. Seems they don't want anyone throwing items onto the field. Cause it happened one time somewhere
Compared to the last game, there was a lot of great midfield play, maybe credit Godoy for that? Good passing, didn't give the ball away, kept Sounders on the run for brief periods. Then someone would get the ball to Cato and he'd start charging down the line, and either he'd lose the ball or he'd lose the ball, and meanwhile Wondo and anyone else who might have scored was on the wrong side of the field. How many times did that scenario repeat? Today was especially irritating because of Seattle's ongoing diving. I think Martins finally got so tired of picking himself up every other minute that he decided to stay upright for a while, but it was almost comical for the first half of the game. You don't see our guys doing that! Also, I don't know what happened to Goodson, but he started holding his head after their goal, and as I said in the pbp, seemed injured throughout the remainder of the game. All we need, to be missing two of our main defenders for the Wed game. Finally, anyone who was in the SG area, there was an outcry at the end of the game stoppage -- apparently the Ultras et al thought that someone had been fouled in the box and we deserved a PK. Like that was going to happen. Anyone know?
Nice call by Dom to play Alashe at CB. I thought it would be Wynne knowing he played CB while at Colorado, but in hindsight it makes a lot of sense. Alashe is a solid 1 v 1 defender, better on the ball with better distribution. I thought his overall game against Oba was very good. I was bummed with our wing play and lack of overlaps with the fullbacks. I would have liked to have seen Cato and Salinas be more decisive to go at defenders and get up field. Seemed like Seattle was squeezing the middle of the field forcing everything outside. Probably thinking, go ahead beat us with Francis, Salinas, Wynne and Cato...we want them on the ball as much as possible. I don't know how many times we entered the attacking third on the wing and meandered around and cycled it back to Wynne or Francis. Or when Cato and Salinas took turns cutting into the middle for overload opportunities...unfortunately the ball found them a lot in those situations and they had no answers...turning it over a ton.
So are we gonna play in blue on Wednesday and give away more points? Goal differential in blue is minus 9. Salinas is a beast in white and a disaster in blue. .
Two thinks happened. One was a head-to-head with Chad is bad. The other was Martins kicked him in the head on the goal....but I guess when you score a goal it's fair play to kick people in the head. Just as it is when you've just fouled someone who is lying on the ground--just kick them in the face as you run by. I think Clarence played while concussed and I hope the Quakes get fined for it. I know other teams play concussed players and MLS doesn't care, for example the Galaxy playing Omar when he was concussed. Even so, I don't want our team stooping that low.
Not to whine too much, but we got yellow cards for comparatively soft fouls. They got away with a lot of fouls and some yellow cards not given. But the PK we should have had in stoppage was outrageous. But if we hadn't tried to bunker after we went up a goal, we'd have won too. Even so, two of our guys got kicked in the face, and no cards were given. One of the fouls on MPG should have been a straight red. On the shittle goal that was called back, the only foul on that play was Dempsey throwing an elbow, but he didn't get a yellow for it. Bunch of crap. We should have won that game. Go Quakes!! - Mark
I have to agree, the official didn't lose the game for us but he was far from optimum, really far. That being said, this tie feels a lot like a loss, a very lackluster performance in a pivotal game.
