Considering Man U paid 50 mill for a 19 year old project, I think the Coman deal looks genius.

I'd be interesting to make a list of our transfers in the latest years and split them into "Pep", "Reschke" and "Sammer" transfers. I know that in the end probably all parties have to agree for the transfer to get the green light, but It'd be interesting to see who had the best ideas

    My impression is:
    Pep:
    Thiago
    Alonso
    Coman(?)

    Reschke:
    Costa
    Vidal

    Sammer:
    Bernat
    Rode
    Benatia

Since Pep got here, we have acquired:

    -Mario Götze
    -Thiago
    -Jan Kirchhoff
    -Medhi Benatia
    -Juan Bernat
    -Xabi Alonso
    -Pepe Reina
    -Sinan Kurt
    -Robert Lewandowski
    -Sebastian Rode
    -Arturo Vidal
    -Douglas Costa
    -Joshua Kimmich
    -Kingsley Coman
    -Sven Ulreich

    I'd categorize them as such:

    Pep transfers:

    -Thiago
    -Xabi Alonso
    -Kingsley Coman
    -Pepe Reina?

    Reschke transfers:

    -Medhi Benatia?
    -Juan Bernat
    -Arturo Vidal?

    Reschke recommendations for Pep:

    -Douglas Costa
    -Joshua Kimmich

    Sammer transfers:

    -Jan Kirchhoff
    -Sinan Kurt?
    -Sebastian Rode

    Higher ups transfers:

    -Mario Götze
    -Robert Lewandowski
    -Sven Ulreich?

How exactly is this categorisation arrived at?

Or do you mean that in each case the main sponsor of the deal is the person listed?

^^Pure speculation. No basis behind any of it. Sammer has a pretty bad rep here, ever since Pep's arrival. Even though IMO Sammer played a crucial part in assembling the 2013 treble winning side and kind of the structure of the team per se.

I seem to recall Sammer saying that they already scouted Bernat a year before Pep arrived and that he was very impressed by him

Reschke was the one who tried to sign him for Leverkusen a year earlier, Sammer merely said that our scouts were already observing him for a while.

Imo the Bernat transfer was a Pep / Reschke co-production.

Reasoning for these transfers? I get the Sammer and Pep stuff, but how the Reschke stuff?

Our management has executed this transfer window brilliantly, better than I had ever hoped. Transitioning from an aging squad seemed like a tricky proposition but their decision making in the past 4 months corroborates why they are one of the best FO's in the business.

-They made an unpopular but fitting decision to get rid of a salary burden in Schweinsteiger, a man who is rarely fit, deteriorating in quality. and only maintains consistency and excellence for a month or two (albeit, they are usually crucial months).

-They actually seemed to have set out to not find permanent replacements for Robbery during this transfer window, and due to the lack of interesting wing prospects this year, it's proven to be a wise decision. Instead, they bought Douglas Costa and Coman as much needed backup for the wings. Now, Costa might even prove to be a mainstay in the starting lineup. And Coman is a highly talented 19 year old who could be just the replacement we're looking for. If not, he still fills the role of backup.

-Bought Arturo Vidal, a player at the peak of his career, to fortify the midfield for 2-3 years while we develop Gaudino and Hojbjerg, who are still not ready for the prime time.

They've done really well planning for the mid-long term. I think we still need a backup Center Back, a Fullback prospect, and a backup striker. But these can be done without for now. Good job FO.

To be honest, I don't know much about him and haven't seen him play too often. From what I hear, he's just as precocious as Hojbjerg and Gaudino but I'll wait and see before I pass any judgement.

I still feel we need a good DM as well to compete with Alonso. With Dante gone, I see Javi more and more in the CB role. I think Kimmich is not a good enough competition for Alonso and Vidal & Thiago will probably compete for the CM role, ala Box to Box or Creative CM mode. Thiago can play CAM too (competition with Goetze).

I think we have too many players who are prospects like Gaundino, Pierre, Kimmich or old like Alonso(Schweni gone). Only Vidal is in his peak and Thiago is approaching his peak. Hope to see someone like Gundogan in the next transfer window.

Other than fantastic job, apart from Ulreich. I like the Costa & Coman buys. Costa is a star already while Coman is a cheap fast skilled LW . Now that Ribery is out we have to genuinely good wingers in Robben & Costa and a backup in Coman without having to use Muller or Goetze at the winger. Muller will play more as a ST and Goetze will get chances in central areas.

If Ribery comes back strong and everything, then I think the squad will be intact for a couple of years atleast(2017). We only need to seriously scout for a replacement for Alonso.

Of course that can happen - but it was only because of injuries

I presume the point for Kimmich this year is to learn - you would not expect him to nail down a starting spot in central midfield

It would be phenomenal if he did
