Buying a Rolex for five thousand Euros doesn't make it cool to buy a Baby G-Shock for 1000 Euro. It's a waste of money and makes you look like a fool.

Didn't England do it when Liverpool won the CL but ended fifth in the league and UEFA caved to the premier league (Uefa wanted them to give Liverpool one of the four spots but PL refused and said the top four would enter the competition and if uefa wanted their defending champions to be admitted they would have to give an extra spot). Or am I just misremembering stuff?

This was about a week before we signed Bale.

This was a week before Manchester City signed De Bruyne.

Gareth Bale was the Premier Leagues main attraction when we signed him, De Bruyne is the most expensive Bundesliga transfer only because Thomas Müller would never leaver Bayern like that. That's the difference.

I thought the same thing. They're talking about the CL proper though, as 5 English teams did participate in the CL then. However one didn't make it out of the qualifiers, so only 4 played in the actual Champion's League.

Tomato tomáto I guess. I'm going with it, as saying we're the first and only league who did this is yet another example of how great the bottom teams in the English league must be.

Everton fans on this board still talk about that year as "the year they played in the CL".

Why do you waste your time listening to what Everton fans have to say? Couldn't you have used your time better by say picking your nose? Never know what you're going to find there, yet listening to English fans always ends with bullshit.

Haha no way. Pogba is so much better and more valuable than Benzema it's outrageous to even compare them. Just because Wenger has a crush on Benzema doesn't mean that every other club on Earth wouldn't way rather have the future world player of the year in Pogba. I also love how everyone forgets that before a good World Cup last summer Benzema's performances for France were PATHETIC for YEARS.

You're other 2 points are legit though.

Simply means you and others bought into the hype, that is all. You love to bash the EPL for displaying low quality football - I say how about you guys, for once, keep it consistent with the players :)

We art not worthy of thy superior football intellect. We has't been fooled!

Again, nothing better than a good ole online football professor. Gareth Bale was everywhere. That jacks up the price of a player. Similarly, Luis Suarez' value fell when he bit a person, because of popularity and influence.

There are players in the Premier League that are of great value. Guys like David Silva, Yaya Toure, Kun Aguero, etc. These guys were top notch players before they signed, not after they broke the Bundesliga transfer record. Get your time line correct. First you become a star, then you sign for star transfer fees like Bale and Neymar. You're saying the De Bruyne transfer is the same when that's just putting the horse before the cart.

Actually Rolex fits him perfectly, while Messi (for example) is a Patek Philippe. Over-hype vs true quality.

Gareth Bale only played on the EPL, which is different than Silva, Kun and Toure. This is what I based my rating on before we signed him. What is different between De Bruyne and Bale is that one was the best player of the EPL, which is a hyped up league, as you all here say, with more global exposure, marketing, blah, blah , blah, therefore their homegrown players are hyped up as well, by definition and the other was the best player of the Bundesliga, the league where the current world cup champions all started playing, with much less global exposure, marketing, hype, etc. etc

De Bruyne played in the Bundesliga before with Bremen and wasn't that hot, a promising player, but nowhere near somebody you'd call the best in the League. One factor was age, the other factor was that Ribery and Robben were a whole lot better, and would still be if both wouldn't be injured for longer periods of time.

Now it's you overhyping an award he won, but that's ok, because this is the internet and we have to "win".

And that is ok, but both are 30 and already reached their peak and Debruyne hasn't - he is 24 I believe.
And I am not overhyping anything, In that last sentence I was simply stating facts.

Ah i see, so that makes him the best player of the League out of speculative reasons then. In a season where Reus, Ribery and Robben had their difficulties, we just blow De Bruyne's achievement up (The League of the World Champions!) while saying the Premier League is overhyped and Bale's ward didn't matter. That's the kind of argumentative Judo i like on bigsoccer.

Mitroglou > Messi, because he has a more intricate haircut and played in three Leagues if we include Germany while Messi only played in Spain!

I am not blowing it up geez... I simply said his price is reasonable comparing to how much we paid for Bale.
Reus is always injured therefore his stock went down.
To me personally i believe all these prices are ridiculous for all these players not just this particular transaction but that is how the market is.

Why isn't it reasonable compared to what we paid for James? Is it because Bale suits your argument better?

I noticed that in the whole foreign players vs domestic players debate about the Premier League. Just being against common opinion to be against it.

James was overpriced as well but Bale was significantly more. As I said before the fact that we paid that much for these players and also sold DiMaria for 80m to MU is part of the reason why the next big contracts will demand these high figures. Perhaps you do not rate DeBruyne but everyone else does.

A player they really don't need imo.

As for DeBryune, there's no way he's worth that amount, he's barely worth half of if imo. But with the way the transfer market is (especially in England) right now, it is what it is though. And with all that been said said, one will have to say that City's offensive options looks really incredible. Very technically talented players (except Nava who only know how to run) who are also very good at scoring goals.

Suarez PERCEIVED value fell because of the Chiellini bite, yes, but at no point did I not want Madrid to acquire him. Same with Vidal and the drunk driving nonsense this summer on a smaller scale perhaps. However, the majority of fans on this forum went on and on about how he (Suarez) is a disgrace and isn't worthy of Real Madrid (and King Arthur to a lesser extent). The fact is that the homeboy Luis was the 3rd best footballer in the world that year (2 seasons ago), and one could argue he was the 3rd best footballer in the world last year too. I feel like if I tie this into the whole Benzema being overhyped by the fans of our club then I'll just get harassed so I won't even go there right now lmao.

**Sorry, this is pretty off topic--I just wanted to vent, and it's certainly not directed at you, @4x4s !
