If Jozy is going to regain form it's certainly not going to be with that Toronto squad. I watched them for 90 minutes last night and couldn't even start to tell you what their gameplan is, other than chuck it to Gianvinco. Now Herc on the other hand, will figure out a way to get goals on that team.
Jozy's in a slump, this much is clear. It's not the first time for him, he's always been a player that's either riding his confidence or he's not. Herc Gomez was definitely more dangerous when he subbed on yesterday.
Agree. Don't think it was a good move for either of them. Not at all. And I'm not interested in making this a MLS v Europe debate. It ain't about that. As I said at the time when both moved to TFC, there were far better fits for both in MLS. But the move to TFC for Jozy was as bad as the move to Sunderland for him. I personally think he should have moved back to Holland or gone to Germany from Sunderland. And frankly, if I'm TFC I'm trying to move both to any club who'll take them, whether that's in MLS or overseas. They are a waste of money for TFC. They could do a fair amount better with two available DP slots. Their own fans don't like them and consider them a waste of money and for the most part in reading the popular TFC fan forum, most don't care they're USNTers as they're Canadians. They don't care about the NT marketing aspect. The worst part in general are both should be entering their primes and playing the best football of their careers and neither are close to that, nor have they been for roughly 18 months. Mike is still a pro going about his business though, Jozy seems to have lost it mentally. He doesn't look happy in Tor, doesn't look motivated either. Frankly, with the soft media and inability with the salary structure to force Jozy to compete day in, day out for his spot, I worry about him sinking into a depressive comfort zone. TFC ain't benching him.
I would have liked to see Jozy try one of the Europa League level French sides like Marseille or Bordeaux. If they wouldn't have had him, more mid table like Lille or Nantes w/ his natty team buddy. Those would be step downs from the Premier League, but a step up from the Eredivisie which he already conquered. That might have given him cause to be confident again, while still being engaged. With Toronto, he's not very engaged to begin with dropping down from the Premier League at 24-25, to a level below Holland. While he could also lose more confidence from questionable service. Then he gets even less engaged because I think his attitude when things aren't working well is to not try so in the back of his mind he can have an excuse. Run away from goal scoring chances, walk around, and flippantly get cards to be taken off the field. Jozy and his agent's management of his career has been very short-sighted. With good management and him not being such a head case, I think he might well be viewed as a world class player right now, instead of floppy. He's got the talent. It's not that dissimilar of a situation to Balotelli's.
Agreed. For as bad as Jozy's attitude problems might be right now he's still nowhere close to Balotelli territory.
Completely agree.... I hope Jozy goes...but I think with the amount of change it took to get Bradley here, I think they hold on to him. He's still a great player...but I do think his time away from the high level of euro footie has hurt the 'little' things that really show when at the highest level of competition. It's one thing to do what he did in those friendlies, another with his inability to translate it to the NT stage like he used to....
Some bad, some good. He was beating 1-2 people in the air all game long but RBNY were very effective in stifling any of sort of offense that TFC attempted. The truth is, everyone stunk up the field for TFC, including Michael Bradley who may have been just as bad as the CB's (the worst of the lot). Maybe play Herc Gomez for awhile and sub in Jozy until he gets his form back. For everyone jumping all over him, just have a look at the scoring charts for the season and you'll see there aren't many Americans doing much better.
Oh I get it. Everything is going in at the moment. And you never walk away from a table when you're on a heater.
This seems to happen every time someone is put on the alert list. Someone from their club leaks that they have been called in.
The best example of this was 2 seasons ago. Bolton announced that Ream was called in and he then went out and played probably the worst 1 or 2 games of his career. Invitation withdrawn.
Why is everybody on Bobby Wood's D so hard? He scored in two games. That's it. He has never even been an above average player in the 2. Bundesliga. Altidore is just in another longterm slump. He has had a few of them now. When he is not in a slump, he craps all over every other true striker in our pool.
Thats the exact readon you hear people looking for other options. Multiple longterm slumps, questionable work ethic unless he is catered to, injury prone, its ojay for Jozu to sit until he gets sorted. If we play Wood, Morris, or anyone it doesnt matter, try them out and see if it works. If not once Jozy gets lined out he goes back in, if they do catch on, he has to work to get his job back and thats okay too.
I don't think he's in a slump. I think he has had a few good periods followed by resumption of his normal ability. His touch is not great. He is not terribly fast or quick. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Very apropos for Jozy.
So, cleansheetsbsc, I have to say, that with Teddy R. staring out as your avatar, I have an immediate visceral image of the Panama Canal, Sagamore Hill, the Roughriders and big game trophy taxidermy, but, new pu$$y? dude, I will never see Teddy in the same light again.
