It's all over Twitter. My speculation is that the FMF wanted to can him anyway, this just streamlined the process

They wanted him out, but I'm sure not before game in October. This is going to complicate things for them, then again they might end up getting a great coach and take it to us in October. I wonder who they might go after, I don't see any spectacular coaches in Liga MX.

I would hope not. While he has impressed in friendlies he has yet to appear in any truly meaningful competitions with the senior team. Would much rather see him in Olympic qualifying and a proven professional player in Mexico game.

    They'll hire Don Ovan.

    Or maybe Bob Bradley.

Y'all are seriously a defeatist bunch.

If you did watch the Gold Cup matches that didn't feature the USA, you would have seen a struggling Mexico side. A side that did not score goal on their own against two 10-man sides (both Guatemala and Panama played significant portions of their matches with 10 men).

The question is which manager will bring in the right squad to face the other. Yes, Jurgen needs to reevaluate his roster selections, but this is still a talented group of players.

Two things: 1) We have a couple friendlies to prepare us before then. Hopefully, JK is brining in and STARTING the people he plans to play against Mexico. He can't pick a starting XI and that is annoying as all get out. 2) We have Olympic qualifying that may steal some of our younger players. Personally, I hope that some of the young guys go that way so we have a group of players on the field that has more USA/Mex experience.

The do or die Olympic Qualifier is a day after this, but you take our best 23 to the Mexico game. If that includes, Brooks, Yedlin, and Morris so be it

"Our best 23" is always such an interesting topic and discussion for debate.

Herrera was fired. This bodes well for us. Traditionally new Mexican managers struggle

I'd say the opposite actually, they start really high (Chepo) then get on a negative slope

Any new manager struggles. If FMF is smart they'll put a caretaker coach in who won't come in with grand plans of their own, at least until the October 9th game is over.

I agree, it gives me hope for the playoff game, but I genuinely liked Herrera, and his players seemed to like him as well. Seems like a stupid move, but after the Gold Cup I think I can believe almost anything involving the Mexican team.

No need to bring up the social problems of another country my friend, it doesn't reflect well on you. Try and stay classier than that.

I think Herrera will be sacked and most likely "El Turco" will take his place.

Not offended in any way, but being that it is my country as well, me being a dual citizen I was just expressing facts. The fact is that the last thing the Mexican federation wants is having their No 1. Futbol coach acting in this way. they have been trying hard recently to stop violence in their own stadium and them allowing him to continue was not an option. No way around it, he had to go.

My first stab at a 23. This'll probably change

    GK: Howard, Guzan, Rimando
    CB: Besler, Gonzalez, Orozco, Alvarado
    LB: Beasley, Shea
    RB: Johnson, Evans
    CM: Bradley, Beckerman, Cameron
AM: Bedoya, Zardes, Yedlin, Mixx, Jose Torres
    FW: Altidore, Dempsey, Johansson, Morris

I'd say the olympics is a pretty damned important tournament to qualify for as well. That's our future we're talking about. Frankly, of the three, Brooks has "potential" (i.e., the Olympics is the right tournament for him to develop), Yedlin is an occassional supersub, and Morris is still a college player, even if he has done a fantastic job with in friendlies.

This is going to be a knife fight, and I think that veteran experience is going to be very important. Brooks and Morris should go to the Olympics qualifier, at minimum.

If herrara is gone, I'd like to at least offer a small tribute as the man who gave us this absolute classic.

I think the experience of the Confederations Cup a year before Russia is way more valuable than a U23 tournament for guys who may never be major players for us.

You could argue whether Yedlin, Brooks, or Morris belong in the squad (I left Brooks off mine), buy my point is that if you think they can help they go, the Olympics should play zero factor

Herrera being the manager of Mexico was the best thing we had going for us going into this playoff. Man, what a bummer.

I know it's unusual to see to left footed CB's start at CB next to eachother but I'd be very interested in seeing Besler and Brooks together.

I have read somewhere that statistically the best place to kick a PK is down the middle... Almost always a Keeper will guess one direction and dive. If a keeper just stands his grown in the middle then it looks like he isn't trying.

Kicking a PK down the middle also makes it look like the shooter isn't trying.

It worked for Dempsey 3 times in a row. I kept thinking he'd change it up, but he never did.
