Because they are better coached. Hmmmmm. USSF already has a WC winning coach under contract. Maybe a shift in her position to a squad in need of coaching would work
You never know who's going to pop by City Hall. Great meeting with @landondonovan @JedYork @srfc_kevin #BuiltforMLS pic.twitter.com/lbPQDrPeqn— Kevin Johnson (@KJ_MayorJohnson) July 23, 2015 I don't want to see Landon go into the media. I don't think he would enjoy himself as a coach. I'd hate to see him bashed as a manager. Even though it's not the Galaxy I would support LD as part owner of Sacramento if that was the case.
37/24 - The #USMNT created 37 total chances thus far at the Gold Cup. Landon Donovan created 24 alone in 2013. I hope Landon was joking about the women and the men. They were uttering this nonsense when our women won the WC in '99. The truth was that the US women would practice against the boys U-16's and lose regularly. And I'm not taking anything from what the women accomplished - they beat the best teams of peers from around the world while the US men can't even beat their Concacaf competitors at home. I respect them for that. Just like I respect Jesse Owens for being the fastest guy on the planet in the 30's even though he wouldn't be in the top 5 of today's college runners. Different times in history and different genders create different expectations, at least in the world of athletics.
He was just being polite at an Awards Show involving the women. That's it. Why Opta, is that you being salty? You want to be depressed: OptaJack @OptaJack 5h5 hours ago 11.4 - The #USMNT is averaging 11.4 shots per game at the Gold Cup, currently the 8th highest total out of 12 teams. Gunshy.
this is the quote that just keeps on giving. should've been our forum tagline last year after winning MLS Cup
Coaches come and go; a LegenD remains forever. http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_28530468/ Kiszla: Landon Donovan has provided U.S. kids the icon they needed Donovan became the first futbol star made in America [...] As a child of the 1980s, when Donovan played basketball, he pretended to be Michael Jordan rising to swish a jumper at the buzzer. With a baseball in hand, the young Donovan envisioned himself as Orel Hershisher pitching a 1-2-3 inning. But when this same California kid juggled a soccer ball? "I didn't even know who to say I was," recalled Donovan, who grew up without an American soccer hero to emulate. So put aside for a minute the six championships Donovan won in Major League Soccer or his 57 career goals for the U.S. national team. He did something far more improbable. Donovan became the first futbol star made in America, despite living in a country where real men traditionally threw touchdown passes or blasted home runs over the fence. While little girls could look up to Mia Hamm, it was Donovan who made it cool for red-blooded American males to love soccer.

Interesting. 19 journalists polled. 18 ranked Donovan either first (15) second (2) or third (1). Wonder who is the one moron who put him at 13….
Thanks kaburu, also put this in the Nats thread. Interesting article written by Jeff Bradley for LD as well for the piece: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/jul/24/landon-donovan-top-soccer-player-us
My guess on the person who put him at 13: Cristian Nyari, media manager, Bayern Munich 15/19 at #1. Nice. The players that beat him out for #1: Claudio Reyna Brad Friedel Walter Bahr
I'd say the only player that has an argument to be above Donovan is Brad Friedel, but comparing keepers to field players is always such a tricky proposition...
Donovan to India? This doesn't seem legit. Here is the article. http://www.indianfootballnetwork.co...-sign-landon-donovan-for-indian-super-league/
I will agree with Donovan for the most part about the USWNT, but with a caveat: I think in general, women are better at multitasking than men either by nature, or society's gender roles nurturing them to develop such a mode of critical thinking. They also tend to be more naturally emotive and so more openly supportive and understanding of teammates. So I think the female soccer pros would be better at learning and then implementing the game plan, and have an easier time to "gel" and develop that team understanding and playing chemistry. That said, post-puberty there are clear physical and tactical disadvantages. The rules of the game are the same - how you can play it however, is a much different matter.
Please note, HushX said women. And I might agree, but your right about teenagers (not just 13 year olds). My older daughter dealt with a few really mean girls especially on the U-18 club level. There were a number of older girls that were on the team when they moved as group from AYSO who were the leaders. They stayed that way at the club level. They were sure of themselves and kept the others in line. When they aged out it got very vicious (especially for girls competing for playing time). As you might expect the team results suffered dramatically.
Hope he does well tomorrow. Nice Q&A: http://www.espnfc.us/major-league-s...-donovan-reflects-on-mls-retirement-us-soccer
