Just out of curiosity where has Jones been these last few weeks? Has he been in Cali rehabing or has he been at practices, meetings, games etc? I don't recall ever hearing about him being around or showing his face in Krafts luxury box. Why did it take this long for him to speak up?
Got a call from my ticket rep earlier this week, saying they are expecting a large crowd for this game. At first I thought it was due to Villa, Lampard and Pirlo. But then I realized it was because it's JoGo Bobblehead Night....
"Paying respect" makes it seem like the guy died. Once, maybe just once, I would like to see a Rev get nasty when asked about some star player on another team that we would never, ever, in our wildest dreams be able to sign ourselves. I want to hear someone say, "I don't care who this guy is, if he thinks he can walk in here and take points from us, he's got another thing coming. We are reeling, on a bad stretch right now and we are going to do our damnedest to make sure he had as miserable of a day as possible. Sure, he may be a great player, but he's our opponent and we need to take all 3 points here." I want a guy who is a street fighter, not some country clubber who's happy to discuss his golf game over a gin and tonic at the 19th hole.
Confirmed: New York City FC midfielder Frank Lampard set to miss match against New England Revolution July 17, 2015 MLSsoccer staff MLSsoccer.com
Heard somewhere that Shuttleworth got knocked hard in training and maybe wont start on Saturday. What's next?
Lingering injury + turf + marketing chance to debut Pirlo and Lampard at Home against Kaka the following week + shaky opponent that they feel they could probably beat or tie without him? Yep, I had a feeling there was no way he was playing.
They're not going to win games giving up 4 goals a game, so stabilizing the defense isn't an option, it's a requirement.
I found this interesting towards the bottom of the article - which doesn't really fit based on the title when asked about the growth of the league (my bold) Heaps is quoted as: "But now you look at Kansas City and it’s the hotbed of soccer. So, I think that says a lot about our league and a lot about our owners. Collectively, they’re strong and they have a great vision of where this is going.”
Agree with this It bugs me that Heaps is always over the top complimentary of his opponent while the opposing coach rarely returns the favor to the revs. I'm not suggesting be a dickhead but be confident rather than groveling at the feet of your enemy.
I'd be there tonight but we just had our first kid last week and he's a little young to bring to a game. So, who starts in place of JoGo?
Glad to see Lee on the scoresheet - nice vision by Diego to find him and Kobayashi for flicking on. Our makeshift back 4 is holding its own so far. Hall is decent as a fill in and Woodberry is pairing Farrell wwll centrally. Knighton is good in goal so far (I always liked him better than BS). Better first half than they have had in weeks but 1 goal isn't enough of a margin to be confident. They need at least 2 more.
69' Davies clanks one off the cross bar. He should be on the GC roster! 72' Agudelo on for Bunbury. Get on the scoresheet, Juan.
is it the injury that bothers Agudelo or is he really playing half ass effort like that? damn hella frustrating to watch. So is Davies, 2 or 3 clear chances to put the ball in the net, but he either mis striked it or too slow Good win by the whole team overall i guess. Still something is missing
Good effort... Lee seems to have found another gear... maybe the allstar + Gold Cup snubs have motivated him to play harder? TV gave MOTM to Diego and while he played well, Lee with the goal and 4 shots was my MOTM BTW - our defense looked better without JoGo. He can go to Switzerland now as far as Im concerned
Revs needed that win The passing sequence that led to the goal was great. Although the stadium announcer said TWICE that Daigo got the assist. Great backheel, but Fagundez threaded that ball Lee, Diego, and Daigo had super games. Knighton played well too. But even a man up, and Knighton had to come up big a couple of times to preserve the 1-0 We do still lack the quick switching that Jones brings to the game like we have all mentioned Is Agudelo nursing an injury as mentioned above? The backline was fine against this opponent - but they were still breakable numerous times. Against an opponent with a stronger midfield and that specific backline(and midfield) would be under more pressure. Agreed that JoGo is not the answer long term either. Villa was pure class - he was working his ass off and had zero help. That is the kind of DP you are happy to have spent the money on. Glad we played them without Pirlo, Lampard, and Mix. Stadium atmosphere was great - Fort sounded great out singing the traveling NYC fans. Next week will be a crucial to stamp on Chicago before a Giovinco and Bradley-returned Toronto team visits NE. Revs needed that win.
Big Congrats - I predict a bunch of middle of the night posts from you (at least that's how it was for me).
Loved Fagundez. Brought back those quick 1 touch passes from the past 2 years that I think have been missing this year. CD puts in so much hard work and makes great runs but unless it's a thoughtless reaction finish, he almost always blows the final pass/shot.
While I saw some promising items, over all I was disappointed. They were playing at home They were playing a poor team They were playing a team that was undermanned missing Mix, Pirlo and Lampard They were playing with a man advantage for 35 minutes of the game. (41 minutes if you count injury time) And still with all this to our advantage, I felt we only slightly outplayed NY. The 3 points was obviously needed so thankfully they secured those but I did not see enough overall play to say we have turned a corner.
It was a needed win and Lee's goal was great, but was overall an underwhelming performance against and undermanned team. Lee, Diego, Daigo and Knighton were great but everyone else still seemed off. Revs are heading into a "winnable" stretch in their schedule (@ Chicago, Toronto, Houston, @Philly) and I would say they need to take a minimum of 7 points out of those games to get relative security in the playoff picture.
Desperately needed win. This doesn't make everything (or anything) but I will take it. Really not much else to say about this game that hasn't been already. Overall a good performance, but nothing outstanding. Also, NYCFC supporters are a bunch of idiots.
Also, if I may vent for a second ... The team did a small celebration for the 20 year season ticket holders last night. We got to watch warm ups on the field. In the South freakin' end zone. So hey, thank you so much for being a 20 year season ticket holder. Why don't you watch NYCFC warm-up! Do one f'in thing right. Please.
