I say Zoltan Toth for keeper and I am going with old school I think Gordon Hill was the best on the floor.
Best keeper, hands down, Victor Nogueira. His longevity in the game and how he redefined the position is unmatched. There are plenty of great goalkeepers. Zollie, Slobo, Mayer, Stanisic, etc... But when you think best of the best it's Nogueira. As for field player, my vote goes to Preki. Why? who else was an All-Star indoor player, then then went and played in the EPL, and then came back to the US, played on the National team, and at the age of 40, won an MLS MVP award? He was already a good player before going indoors, but I honestly think that he became even better after his time spent playing indoors. What an awesome career. Another player that is unmatched with what he accomplished in the game. Just my two cents!
I am going to go w/ David Brcic in goal (every time I saw him play live he was amazing). I never forgave Victor for what appeared like tanking it on his way out of Chicago. Field player - tough one: Stamenkovic, Zungul, Tatu.... hmmmm. Zugul's goals were impressive. Stamenkovic's ball handling was amazing. I'll give it to Tatu simply for the excitement and showmanship.
Kai and Brcic...............never liked Nogueira's style. Manning was a Blast to watch.....hahahhhaaa........loved the mannerisms.
Nogueira was the best keeper in my opinion. Broke my heart a few times as a wee Blast fan. Best field player, home-town bias but the Magician Stan Stamenkovic was truly a magician on the field.
I'd go with Nogueira as the best goalkeeper and Steve Zungul as the best field player. Zungul was not only a great scorer but a great passer as well.
Nice choices. How about the best arena? I loved Playing at the Spectrum during our brief stay in the NISL, viewing, easy access and the fans were right on top of you, but Monterrey was amazing. What are your Choices?
Hometown bias won't even allow me to say the Baltimore Civic Center/Arena. Hell no. For some reason I liked going to games at the State Farm Show Arena in Harrisburg.
Probably the best sightlines in the league and steepest stands. Plus the character of a '20s-'30s building.
I am too young to remember the 80's, but Steve Zungul has to be in the conversation with those stats. The best I remember seeing were Tatu, Segota, Preki, and Beasley. Nogueira as best 'keeper certainly. Best sightlines (and I know this may be biased) this year will probably be the recently (2013) renovated US Cellular Center. Having been to Panther Arena, Independence Events Center, and Family Arena, it's stands are quite steep and the upper deck is right on top of the lower. The renovation has made the concourse and concession stands top class.
Not to thread jack, but I'm doing a series on the 5th Season Front twitter on some of the greatest games in indoor soccer history. I'd like to hear stories and especially see YouTube videos. I already have down the 2012 MISL and 20015 MASL Championship deciding matches, with a couple CISL matches in my memory bank to track down.
I hope you put the 1987 MISL championship series on there. Dallas was down 2-0 and came back to win the series 4-3 with game 7 going to overtime.
I did, and THANK YOU! What an amazing collection of videos. I will definitely put some up. Those are a real treat for a guy who was too young to follow indoor soccer until about 1993.
You are welcome! I still have over 220 games to post....it can be time consuming front to back-enjoy!
2002-03 MISL Finals Game 3 was a good one. The Blast were down 12-4 late in the 3rd and scored 9 answered points, then held off Milwaukee for the last 4:49 to win 13-12.
Interested to know if you have the 1987 game in which KC Comets beat the Sting for the first time ever at Rosemont Horizon. Mainly because it was Jeff Kraft's only goal for the Comets. Thanks for any help!
