I think it would be a good move for him. If anyone can revive him it will be Wrong-again. Plus he will only be a half hour from Bradenton, the scene of his greatest triumphs. And he was very good for the Residency program. BTW, of all the excellent Dutch coaches out there, why did USSoccer end up with Thomas?
Sources have confirmed to @GoalUSA that Freddy Adu is on the verge of signing w/ the @TampaBayRowdies of the #NASL : http://t.co/0OKDGbOoxo— Ives Galarcep (@SoccerByIves) July 10, 2015
INSANITY! But the biggest sign of my insanity is when I read the above post, is wishing that it was Indy Eleven that he was signing with v
Close to signing with Tamp Bay according to ESPN http://www.espnfc.us/story/2519700/freddy-adu-close-to-signing-deal-with-nasl-tampa-bay-rowdies
Too much expectations for too young a guy. I remember going to Colorado Rapids games way back in the day and attendance was always just okay. But the Freddy Adu game the place was absolutely packed!
Well if this move comes to pass it's going to make a whole lot of people around here right, speculating on a NASL move in his future. I can hardly think of a better opportunity. I hope something like the 12th time's the charm.
Topic was brought up on ESPN FC last night, and Stevie, Shaka, Jamie, and Gabby had to guess how many pro teams Freddy had been on (Steve McNichol got it right). McNichol (sp) went onto say that Freddy is the greatest training ground player ever. Because when teammates and coaches talk about him, they say "You should see this guy on the training ground. He does the most amazing things." And coaches think they will be the one to change him. Steve goes onto say that, when the game comes around, Freddy cannot replicate in the game what he does in practice. Shaka Hilsop went onto say that Freddy came around when MLS was still hurting for coverage and attendance. but it wasn't the expectations -- he thinks that he got too much money too soon, and he never realized that he had to improve his game... he figured out that there would always be some team that would pick him up . And the clubs just keep on coming...
Maybe this will turn him around. Maybe he'll just become a guy who gets his pictures taken with the kids. Either way, this is better than what he's been doing. Best of luck to him.
.@FarrukhQuraishi, Perry Van Der Beck & @ThomasRongen picked up @FreddyAdu from @FlyTPA this afternoon. He's here! pic.twitter.com/3kRuvXi7yQ— Tampa Bay Rowdies (@TampaBayRowdies) July 15, 2015
Been a few years, but the last time I was in Tampa the place was literally built like this... gun shop, strip club, bar, fast food joint.... gun shop, strip club... etc. . What could go wrong!?!?!
Heard Rongen on Soccer Morning on Sirius a little while ago. He said Freddy showed up fit, was in great shape, that he will do everything to help Freddy succeed, that he told management he didn't want a circus, and that he knows he will help the team win.
Maybe he has found his level of play for his fitness. He should have a good amount of money in the bank/invested already so why not play where he can hopefully have fun and earn a little clubbing money on the side? Score some goals, have some fun!
Ah... that's why they're called the "Rowdies." Sounds like a place Freddy may enjoy. Minus the guns. How pretty are the strippers?
You must not have ventured out much. Tampa is very nice. But yeah strip clubs are everywhere in that area.
I don't know why anyone thinks Freddy will suddenly find a work ethic and humility. He's done nothing but blow chance after chance after chance. He couldn't make it as a reserve on a Finnish team (34th ranked league in the world) why will he play well here in the USA minor leagues? Methinks his sense of entitlement has gotten the best of him and ultimately ruined his career.
Maybe the only coach in the world, that will allow Adu to focus on his strengths and build the team to hide his weaknesses. If he fails with Rongen. Time to hang em' up.
This says more about where you like to hang out than it does the City of Tampa. Tampa is vey nice but has some "not so nice areas" as well, like most big cities. Additionally, the Rowdies do not play in Tampa, they play in St. Petersburg. The have a great stadium in downtown SP overlooking the bay within walking distance of several great pubs and places to eat. A very nice downtown area with a rabid fanbase. We are thrilled to have FA join the Rowdies. Come and visit and see what you think.
I'd go out on a limb and say that NASL and USL (save for a few smaller clubs) are definitely higher levels than the Finnish league. Had always assumed Freddy signed with KuPS because no American teams in any division had offered him something worthwhile.
