Not to mention that no one complained about losing "German identity" when we got Robben or Lewandowski....
The core of the team should be German and that hasn't changed , the heart of the team is Lahm, Müller and Neuer. In terms of on the field play, Schweini was relatively expendable based on who we have playing there and assuming normal injury amounts. While I'd much rather have him here than not, his absence isn't going to be an unfillable hole in the midfield
Götze being an 8 would be a novelty, besides we usually play two 8 at the same time and only one 6. Also we have ample evidence by now how much we cannot replace Thiago when injured. Signing a quality 8 is a must
If Eberl's public outcry is any sign then we were interested in Mönchengladbach's Granit Xhaka but I don't know if he's a player who would have helped us.
Kovacic is such a raw talent that he would hardly see any time on the pitch at this point in his development. I doubt he's a suitable candidate. If Kicker's report is to be believed, Pep is going to upgrade Alaba's role in midfield which is also the player's great wish and a move that has been coming for quite a while. Though I still expect another top-class addition to the roster. Alaba can't play everywhere.
I'm kind of on the bubble... On one hand I want to see what kind of midfield we can be with martinez-Alaba-Thiago-gotze-hoj-kimmich combination. A 2-3 mixture of any of those is intriguing. On the other hand, we may end up like last season and we don't have any WC level replacements
are we a top 3 club or a merry band of youth wannabes? Seriously Bayern can't afford to go all in on youth unless they don't care about their position in Europe. Bayern needs youth for sure especially in the rebuild and longterm but the short term help needs to come externally. As we simply should not kidd ourselves here Kimmich only has 2nd league exp and PEH played a half season BL regularly if those are the two we want rely upon immediately in all competitions we are going to do them no good
imo the belgian is probably the reason the FO would have liked for Schweini to stay till his contract's up, since that has happened they have to move their arses
I would not be against seeing Alaba as a midfield staple. That being said, would be still need a FB replacement who can play left and right, or is midfielders Lahm and Alaba enough cover for the fullbacks so our biggest needs are still CM and LW?
Took me a while, but I was able to find where the "Romance language" meme comes from again Humin has been using it sarcastically ever since
Thank god you found it, I was wondering who posted it. One of the funniest things I've ever seen on bigsoccer.
Lahm..was the DM...who ever thought it was a great idea needs to be spanked. Now Lahm wants to play as a DM everyday now over his LB. Take the best LB in the world...and make him play DM..while making him believe that he is best at DM. WTF PEP...thank you.
you can't say that. in 2000/01 sure, a big part of the team wasn't german. But the dominating figures were all German. Kahn, Effenberg, Scholl, Linke, and Hitzfield.!!! besides, Lizarazau and Salihamidic were pretty much adopted german with Owen coming from the youth system here. that makes 7 out of 11..players very germanic. that was our identity. Ribery is pretty much an adopted german as well.
I shall write a thesis paper: "Pep Raus? - The Illusion of Teutonic Identity and its Impact on Success from a Footballing Context"
