Why in the world was no one from the club there next to him? So ********ing depressing to see him there alone like that. Such a complete bummer. Gah.

True, but with the expectations on players here a 30 something player will always find it tough. I doubt Iker, Raul, Carlos, Salgado etc... are prepared to retire early like Zidane did.

You can tell it didn't end well eh. Shame they couldn't put differences aside for that last farewell.

2 years after he left Bayern and ended his career he apparently pursued a job at Bayern, Hoeneß said in a live TV sports talkshow that as long as he or Rummenigge had anything to say at Bayern Matthäus wouldn't even get a job as a greenkeeper at the club. They seemed to have left it rather badly. :D

Matthäus recently announced, that he wouldn't pursue a position as a coach anymore. So sad, I was sure sooner or later HSV or Schalke or Stuttgart would be desperate and stupid enough. All the laughs that would have generated lost in time, like tears in the rain.

Considering how Florentino has treated all our Canteras, From Raul and Iker all the way down to Morata, things aren't looking bright for the future youth players. We value players whose loyalties we purchase over the ones who give it to us freely and willingly.

    Delusional post.

He dedicated himself to his club, but was paid handsomely for doing so for many many years. The club fans (as he knows and anyone who actually supports and knows the club's history knows) jeer poor play, they aren't respecters of persons they respect the play and effort.

    Did he deserve better? Yes.
Did the club deserve better? YES.

He had been playing inconsistent/poorly for years now. Instead of him to see this and look for an amiable departure, he decided to hold on and attempt to get all the money he could. I don't blame him for doing so, I would try to get the most money I could and have done so in my past, however I don't sell myself as a selfless and only supporting the team when I am doing that.

I also find it ironic and hilarious you use Xavi as an example. Xavi accepted a bench role. Xavi didn't have the media go nuts that he didn't start. Xavi didn't have his wife complaining that he didn't start. Xavi didn't attempt to shake down his club for every penny upon departure.

Keep admiring how barca treat there own. As if they didn't shit on Valdes, shit on Alves (then lulz retract and sign him back when they couldn't find another alternative), etc, etc...

It never amazes me how a few RM fans on BS admire that club and their players, etc..... more than their own.

Reminiscent of Rijkaard's, Ronaldinho's and Cruyff's (as a manager) exits from Barcelona then. To a chorus of boo's. Maybe Madrid should have put up stats to make Casillas look bad in the 2nd half of seasons like Barca did with Fabregas.

Barca sent their goalkeeper into unemployment after he suffered a possibly career ending injury, and did the same to Abidal after he had cancer surgery.

The amount of ignorance Barca fans are showing is on a different level.

A lot of them seem quite hypocritical and have very little self-awareness.

I love how all these small ass club fans come here and talk shit to us. There's a reason we are the biggest and best club in the galaxy, and the fans high standards is a very big reason for that.

How many players are called Saints? We called Iker, SAN IKER for more than a decade.

He apparently rejected having anyone next to him, doing a press conference, and a testimonial match. Sucks he is leaving like this but the club did extend a lot of offers to him for a proper farewell it seems.

That is very selfish. I know Digital and Oscar will hate me for saying so, but that is a very self-centered way of handling the situation.

He isn't giving the "fcuk you" to Florentino. He's giving it to all of his fans who supported him even against the club. Those are the ones that testimonial is for.

Florentino and future Madrid president's must ban all legend/career contracts. If this situation has thought us anything, it is that those kind of contracts are poison. We're better off giving them an extra half-million then an extra year or two.

For many years Casillas was the backbone of the team. It is true that he did not age as well as Buffon. Still I will miss him. As far as I am concerned, he can say good-bye any way he wants - he earned it.

It's the truth. I'm not saying he has to play friendly with Florentino, however his supporters? They deserved to give him a farewell.

When he denied that to them, it was a selfish move.

Educate yourself. Valdes was offered a contract extension after his injury but he declined because he had a pre contract with Monaco in place. Which Monaco then later broke. Not to mention Valdes had already announced his departure like a year before his injury.
