Perhaps Sasaki has never thought about that the U.S side would push and start the game from the very beginning , he simply had no plan to deal with that.
I think the biggest problem was that there was never a plan B for Sasaki. He never reacted tactically to what other teams were doing. Whoops, almost missed another goal.
And it's over, 5-2. Congratulations to the US; I think we can all agree that the better team won today.
Final! I might be American, but I'm not happy at all USA won! Was rooting for Japan! oh well, 2nd Place. not bad. But Japan definitely proved at this tournament they are a top team and not just in the rankings.
Yes i agree with that. Thought he would have took anything from the performance against England but he simply not.
Come on, one of the 2 goals Japan scored was an own goal... Edit: And Solo got a hand to the other one. This game could well have ended 5-0.
Maybe it's just me, but I got the impression that Sawa was a little angry on the pitch. Quite aggressive, too.
What the? If a defender score an OG is to stop a possible goal by a striker exactly as the US defender did. And even Kaihori touched the ball on the 3rd US score and so? Nothing changed. So please don't be ridicolous. Japan deserved more than a 5-2, infact US scored 4 goals in 15' while the rest of the match was balanced even if Japan was morally destroyed and playing offensive to score leaving a lot of space for the fast US fws.
Lloyd may have been the best player in the tournament, but Miyama is the best footballer in the Women's game. She was absolutely brilliant.
I'm just saying, that own goal didn't have to go in (Miyama's cross could just as well have been deflected into any other direction) and the other goal was really close. I'm not saying Japan deserved neither of those goals, but also I don't agree that 3-2 would have been a fair result. It wouldn't have taken much for Japan to not score those two goals, is my point. Let's not even talk about near-misses because the US had more of those than Japan. Didn't see her being fouled in the area, but I may well have missed it.
Well, guys, I bow graciously to the winners, as I promised I would have done. I guess we did our best and, in the end, we're still second in the world. Good draw, whatever... we had some games to win and we did, until today. Other teams on the other side of the bracket were stronger? On paper. We had a WWC and we arrived second. I guess Kaihori's tears at the end of the match could have moved even mumf (maybe). Anyway, Ogimi soothed her. I was mid-expecting Solo to remember to console Miyama, before go celebrating... Oh well... Now have to go to bed, guys (about 3:00am here). See you soon.
Congratulations to silver medalists Nadeshiko! The presented true hearts of champions in the match at 0:4. Pity they let the situation happen in first 15 minutes of WC final though.
