Connor Lade really looked bad last night. Over commits all the time and gets turned and beat and out of position. To me he is regressing every year. Time to move on, I think, no matter how hard the guy plays.

the other options are better at this point. he can be a sub, but to think he has a bigger role doesn't work.

oh, and did anyone mention another amazing non-finish by felipe?

There were lots of Cosmos fans at the game last night. My reaction to their filled up fan section? Nice drums. I couldn't hear much else. That said, with the addition of a couple of horns, they could be a marching band and entertain us at halftime.

The way that Restrepo guy was turning him left and right you forgot which team was supposed to be D1...

With Duvall possibly out for a very long time, I hope Curtis seriously considers bringing in fullback help this summer.

Timing of that was ridiculous considering the discussion in the other thread, it was as if he was out there just to prove our point.

I was more disappointed in the amazing non-finish by Abang 3 seconds before. Kid finally times a run correctly and can't put away the tap-in.

Or he should have done it last off season. Rightback was going to be dicey this year. That was a known fact. Management did nothing to address it and now here we are.

That being said kudos to management for taking this tourney serious for the 2nd game in a row. Keep it up.

by the way, it's not easy coming off the sunday game at yankee stadium and having two more in the next six days. last night was a little sluggish. saturday in columbus probably wouldn't be pretty.

Because with this stupid salary cap you can't just have a great player at every spot. Or even depth. We took a chance at RB and now get burned because it's pretty obvious that Duvall is going to be out a long while. Hopefully if it's a break, some studs up challenge in a USOC game doesn't cost him a good career. He played very well the last few games and was really gaining confidence. He probably should have dipped out of that challenge considering the circumstances. Up two goals late, and a high probability for injury near the middle of the field probably wasn't worth it.

Now we are stuck using what little cap space we have at filling a spot that we already had a decent player at and that sucks. Lade and McLaws are the guys who will get a good look at RB. Lade's best games have come at RB so maybe this is his big chance. He freaking blew last night on the left side though.

As for the game, great stuff. Dax played nearly a perfect game. Lade was complete trash and cost us that first goal plus a number of good opportunities. Sam, Sacha, and even Zizzo were all very good.

Abang has to figure out the offside thing though... There were a number of times last night where he cost us rushes up field because he put himself in such poor offside position. Guys like Sacha couldn't play him the ball because he was simply off. He's gotta fix that. Fortunately he's so good at everything else that warrants keeping him out there.

DP and Miazga good as usual.

Davis wasn't great... But good for him to get minutes.

All in all it kind of sucks that we lose Duvall for probably the rest of the year and lost Sam for a few games in the last USOC game. You can understand why a lot of teams try to play so many backups throughout this.

Either way, we're in it to win it now. We have great home field advantage and now play against Philly who for whatever reason is always good in the Open Cup.

I was thinking it even as he approached the ball, cause the Cosmos guy was clearly about to throw himself at the ball. Those types of 50/50s end poorly so often. I guess its not really the nature of a pro athlete to back down though.

As soon as that ball settled in the middle of them, I kind of cringed. Gorskie just gave up that penalty to Duvall a bit earlier (I believe it was Gorskie) so he didn't intend on losing anything else.

Now we are kind of stuck... I just hope it's not the worst for Duvall because it's easy to derail a career with a significant enough leg injury.

If it is a fracture then I hope it's the best possible variety. Would be surprised at ACL considering how the injury happened.

The date for the Philly game is supposed to be announced today and I'm rooting hard for the 29th of July as opposed to July 15 so I can actually make it to the game.

Our payroll is down so much from last season it's not even funny. It would be one thing if we had sorted out a couple of problem areas in the offseason such as ST, LM, CAM, CB, and RB. We didn't sort out any of them. We left sooooooooooo many things to chance.

So I don't want to hear excuses. This is what these guys get paid for.

    Duvall out 3 months:

At least it was a clean break. He should recover 100% from that as long as he isn't rushed back.

Zubar out 2-4 weeks and seeking specialist in France:

Red Bulls are the only host of the quarterfinals who have not yet announced the date for their quarterfinal. Red Bull have their 2 friendlies -with Chelsea and Benfica on July 22 and 26 which seem to be causing scheduling headaches for the USOC quarterfinal. Perhaps NYRB management was not planning on making it to the USOC quarterfinal.

If it is played on the 29th, that will be an odd back-to-back setup with the Union, because a league matchup with the Union is scheduled for 3 days later August 1st at PPL park in Chester.

I'm glad we are still in this competition -- where for years RB acted like they didn't give a shaite about it.

Petke put out a strong squad last year. Henry and Olave were a no-go because of Cosmos' $hit turf. Meara played for Robles. I think that's it.

Prior to that?...yeah, Backe didn't really give a dump.

red bulls put out the strongest team they could last year, turf, injuries and call-ups not withstanding.

they couldn't manage to compete on that ridiculous turf, and looked utterly out matched and without a plan. so the cosmos rolled.

yup, he was with the Socceroo's, Miller with the Ticos.

Dax was hurt, Olave and Henry don't play on turf. every other starter that was available was out there to get destroyed by the green machine.

Well they kind of got screwed. Or screwed themselves, however you want to look at it.

Scheduled that Friendly against CHelsea on July 22 knowing that this round of the USOC would be this week. Probably figured that any MLS team would be fine with rescheduling but Philly said absolutely not, unless Philly was allowed to host the game.

Clearly not worth giving up home field so they decided to play the game a couple of hours before the PSG Fiorentina game.

Because of the CBA and common sense, we can't use players in both games considering they're so close together. BEcause of that, the team has to put out 2 very different lineups.

Most, if not all of the starters will play in the Philly game. Perhaps play someone like Zubar in the Chelsea game because he'll be getting back in shape and the Chelsea game will see minimal physicality.

I think you're giving the FO way too much credit. Should they have known? That's a good question.

If we don't play the entire first team vs. philly but throw them out vs. Chelsea I will flip the f#ck out.
