Do you know any ballpark numbers that his contract might be in? I thought the rumor was in the 6 figures which I hope is a very wrong for KuPS sake.
Still not buying the "not match fit" excuse. He started the first four games and looked fine. The part about the article that I found revealing were his incentives. They will pay him more for the amount of games he starts and goals he contributes. Perhaps they would rather lose without him than win with him because it would cost the franchise too much to win with him. This makes some sense now. This again shows the ludicrousness of his agent(s).
If they won with him, they would make up the money. The only way it would make sense is if they don't think he would help them win much at all.
This doesn't really jive with the ESPNFC article from last week. Even though he has seemed annoyed with the continued Adu talk in the past (I think it was him?), I would love it if someone like Brian Sciaretta could do an update on Adu just so we knew the info was reliable.
I think people exaggerate how good he looked and confuse causation and correlation - just because the team won when he was in the lineup doesn't mean that he is the reason that they won. From what I saw, he was a decent circulator and that's it. Nothing incisive, maybe one or two decent, well-timed attacking runs. Just standard ball movement. And, he was gassed after 65 minutes. Also, it makes no sense to think that a team would stop playing him because it might make them win. None at all. They knew what the incentives were when they signed him. There's no way they'd suddenly wake up and discover that it's too expensive to play a guy that they've had on their roster the whole season. After a while, it's just silly to keep blaming circumstances for Freddy's career. Freddy is where he is because, despite his talents with the ball at his feet, he's not a good enough footballer to make it at the highest levels. There's probably a 2% chance that he gets it together in time to be a contributing player at a decent team in an okay league, and maybe a 1% chance that he does better than that. And that's about it.
Freddy Adu has been included in the squad for KuFu's fourth division match against @KingsSC1 tomorrow night in Kuopio #kolmonen— Finnish Football Show 🇫🇮⚽️ (@FinnishFtblShow) July 1, 2015
Freddy is good enough to play in higher leagues, there is something he doing or not doing that killed his career.
Research the highlights of his 4-0 victory, he was the best player in the pitch. He proceeded to be only used once as a sub after that game. Then demoted to reserves. Does not make sense unless they realized that he is good, but not good enough to pay his incentives.
The people that run these clubs aren't imbeciles when it comes to financial management. I doubt they'd sign freddy to a contract that would be too costly to fulfill if he actually showed up and played well.
"His" 4-0 victory in a cup match against a club that is currently 2nd from last in the 3rd division? That 4-0 victory? Maybe there is sarcasm that I am missing...
Nah the coach told it as it is. He's looked fine on the ball, but when he doesn't have it, he barely walks around the field. Freddy plays for the highlight reel. And I think that cup game is the only he managed to do the full 90. He just gets too tired too fast, and short of spending his days off in a couch eating Doritos, or being in reality 57 years old, I still think one has to be quite messed up in one's health to get tired after 60 minutes of jogging around.
I just researched the highlights from that day. He played the full 90, hustled the entire time, and continue to juke and make great passes all the way til the end. It is not comprehendable that he would have zero starts and only one sub since then after his performance and the performance of his team that day if the sole reason was his conditioning(fitness). If u play a full 90 and contribute the entire time and have a hand in 4 goals, u are match fit.
I'd be interested in what Stephen McCarthy would have to say about Freddy and Freddy's time so far at KuPs. He was with the Revs through 2014 so he knows the level of MLS and seems to know what it takes to be a pro soccer player. I am surprised that nobody here is a friend/contact of Stephen's who might have some inside scoop, assessment.
The figures that have been circulated put him somewhere between 2k and 3k a month. Money wasn't an issue when he signed, Adu's main aim was to get regular playing time.
It was against a 3rd Division team that currently has a 1-5-5 record. Going 90 minutes against that level of competition proves very little.
