Any news on US La Liga rights for 2015-16?

I ask because BeIN Espanol ran a promo for La Liga during last night's Argentina-Uruguay match, saying that La Liga would resume on BeIN Espanol in August. Interestingly, the promo only mentioned BeIN Espanol and did not mention BeIN Sports. Generally their promos mention both channels.

I haven't seen any news or announcement on the rights, but is it possible that they've retained the Spanish-language rights and either lost or sublicensed the English-language rights?

Would seem to be a great compromise for the people here that don't seem to care about the quality of the commentary! Hope there's something in it.

Am I the only one that finds this odd? BeIN is either i) promoting the return of a property that they don't have the rights to; or ii) promoting the return of the property ahead of any kind of public announcement or press release that they have retained the rights.

Either way I find it extremely odd (and continue to hope, pray and make sacrifices that BeIN loses the rights and shortly thereafter joins Setanta in the sweet hereafter).

Little odd that a soccer fan wants yet another primarily soccer focused network to go away. beIN has some serious flaws but they present a ton of soccer, much of it in HD, via cable and sat. If you want them gone then, unlike a lot of others on this forum, I hope you're really cool with streaming.

If they are promoting LA Liga in their ads it basically means they know they have it in the bag and all the other Networks don't want it or just don't want to put up the cash.
That is the way I see it.

Personaly, I think they are just winging it. It's not like there will be consequences if they keep running these ads and end up without la liga. Ooops, who cares really. It's not like they never ran ads that make you scratch your head.

I think I'll survive without television coverage of Ligue 1, the Russian Premier League, handball and cycling, and judging by the ratings, so will 99.99% of soccer fans in this country.

Meanwhile, the properties I (and the majority of US-based soccer fans) want to watch (La Liga, Serie A, Copa America, South American WCQ) would get much better, much more widely available coverage if the Qataris weren't around overpaying for rights.

No one wants to pay for the South American Qualifiers except BEIN.

Maybe Gol TV would but they're probably in fewer homes than BeIN.

NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and MLS would never be less than two months away from the start of a season without announcing what channels will have games on national TV.

I was thinking about this. Would Brazil-Colombia on any major network get better ratings than anything shown at the time which was mostly reruns? If Fox can get good ratings for a US women game, this game would do great too. Maybe just different demographics. I can't believe that no one would want it.

What's a major network? Why would people watch Brazil-Colombia?

FOX is getting good ratings for US women's games because it's the #2 ranked US women's national team at the World Cup. Likewise, the rest of the ratings have been pretty good because it's the World Cup. It's the highest level and the games matter.

    Apples and oranges.

The other leagues you list all have significant TV deals in terms of revenue. So much so that it has an impact on the salaries of the players in those leagues. The US' la liga TV deal is chicken feed.

Two months is still a long time. I remember a few years back we didn't even know who woild show the games the same week that La Liga season was starting.

Carriage is really important too. The WWC is doing very well for FOX because they are promoting the heck out of it, it's a well loved event and it's getting time on the OTA network. That said, FS1 properties are usually lower than like ESPN&2 ones because of carriage, familiarity and reputation. Yes the WWC is a great ratings success for FOX, but the numbers would be even higher on ESPN/ABC. And that is not a criticism of FOX whatsoever, just a sports business truism.

Just as more people would watch Brazil-Colombia or Argentina-Jamaica on ESPN or FOX than beIN. ESPN + Messi/Neymar (when applicable)? Probably would triple English language beIN coverage. I mean Portugal-Armenia on ESPN did better than top Copa English language number on beIN.

Barcelona exclusion complicates Spain’s TV package

The Liga de Futbol Profesional (LFP) has 38 of the 42 professional clubs in Spain’s top two divisions on board and has appointed Spanish broadcaster Mediapro as its agent to negotiate with interested parties, but Barcelona, along with Espanyol, Celta Vigo and Real Sociedad, will not be included.

    Mediapro runs BEIN USA right?

No wonder they are announcing next season is on BEIN, its not exactly a fair fight for the likes of Univision, Telemundo/NBC or anyone else trying to get la liga rights.

Although I can see Telefonica selling the rights to someone else, it looks like the majority of La Liga games will be on BEIN.

So it's possible that one channel (presumably BeIN) gets the bulk of games but someone else gets the rights to these other teams? (Obviously not negligible due to Barça's presence in the "other" category.)

Whatever the rumors are out there, it looks like BeIn Sports will run business as usual next season.

Hopefully Fox gets the rights so they can fill in the Fox Soccer Plus and Fox Soccer 2 Go programming.

Networks were supposed to submit a bid to an email address by 6/29 even though they didn't know exactly what they were bidding on (given the four holdout teams, including one of the two teams that matter). Looks extremely shady. As far as done deals all I could find on the Internet was that deals were reached in Brazil, Italy and the Netherlands. No mention of the four holdout teams in those reports/press releases. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1437780694.073788.jpg

I read today that MediaPro sold the South American rights to ESPN.
