I don't think Gomes, Cancelo or Bernardo sensed that JJ believed in them and look what NES at Valencia and Jardim at Monaco have done. In the Benfica boards there is a debate in who to blame for not maximising our youth talent but at Sporting JJ won't be able to blame Sporting or BDC. As far as Silva for Gaitan and Cancelo for Maxi, a coach like Jardim might have and that is basically the policy now at Monaco. Btw there is definitely some support for Marcos Silva in the SerBenfiquista boards.
That would be great as far as flaming the flames of rivalry but I would prefer a more experienced coach for Benfica.
I think Benfica offered considerably less . Hard to say, a lot of stories out there now. One thing is for sure, it is gong to be and interesting year lol
Benfica was paying more this season but was offering less for his renewal. Why do you think he came here instead?
Yes I know, what I meant was I dont know how much less Benfica were offering. If you believe in rumours, LFV and JJ had been banging heads for control. They are both head strong. LFV wanted him gone all along. He made JJ an offer that he knew that JJ would be offended and turn down.
Yes that is the rumour even before Sporting was mentioned. From JJ's perspective maybe he thought he should of got even more after the double this season. Seems a bit odd the Benfica/Viera offered less in the renewal if viera was trying to score a quick million or two then he shot himself in the foot as I can't see Viera offering JJ less because he actually wanted JJ to leave but feared fan reaction (the conspiracy angle).
The what who owes whom? People keep saying that but then I think about how he did with Coentrão, Di María, Matic or Talisca, hell, even Gomes, and I don't get it, these players weren't older than most of our current team. I for one can't wait for that game. And it's going to be even better if Marco Silva joins Benfica.
If JJ is fighting with Vieira then I can't see the JJ/BDC thing ending happily after success or failure.
That is a good point. They are both head strong and attention seekers. Could be a power struggle down the road. Not the first year. The first year they will both be on the same page, finishing ahead of Benfica. Years two and three will be the interesting years.
joaommx, apparently Sporting wanted to fire Marcos Silva under just cause and in doing so avoid paying 1M Euro or so for termination of contract.
He did say it and I do know it http://desporto.sapo.pt/futebol/pri...ipe-vieira-o-futuro-est-no-regresso-s-origens
so funny seeing all the Benfiquistas cry and call Jorge Jesus a traitor etc, he was barred from Seixal and his image removed from championship posters LOL he isn't any different from Matic, Di Maria, or Coentrao. He is taking a step up in his career to a bigger and better club.
With strikers like Montero sporting aren't doing shit I can see JJ using him as a CAM he also likes to play with a CDM should be intresting esp if William does go
I think it's absurd that Benfica fans are already out in force talking about how JJ joining Sporting will be the end of Alcochete. For the record, it wasn't just JJ that failed to find any homegrown gems at Benfica, that's a curse that goes back all the way to Rui Costa. Since he came through, I can't say Benfica have had any real star players from the academy level. So blaming JJ for a 20 year old problem is relatively naive. The difference here is that he's not going to have to go to Serbia or SA to find talented young players to mold. I'm still not a fan of his, I think he's insanely overrated, but if he brings a title, so be it.
