In that case maybe we should have a sticky thread for newbies/visitors that lists all of the terms we use and what they mean or refer to.

Particularly blondes that are both talentless and old.

Telegraph reporting Spanish newspaper Cuatro and El Mundo Deportivo, that Real turned down a 110mil pounds bid from United for Varane and Bale. Both publications predict however that United are likely to come back and test Real again with an improved offer. Curious to find out how how United would be prepared to go as 110mil is a nice sum for both these players.

The article highlights the needs that most believe have to be addressed : RB, CB, CM and striker and a goalie, at least. Lots of work ahead for Woodward : let's hope he got crackin' already!

The thing people always ignore when they talk about "not letting a player leave" is how much power agents have in this business. If you can convince De Gea to stay one more year that's one thing, but if you essentially hold him against his will, you're not doing yourself any favors in the long run. If De Gea is pissed, his agent is pissed. His agent is some guy named Jorge Mendes. What happens when he starts badmouthing United management to his clients? He'll start whispering in ears about how we mistreat our star players and nothing good will come of it.

Try to convince him to stay, but ultimately if his heart is 100% set on going this summer, you might as well get on with it. There's no use burning bridges and a $20M+ transfer fee for a single year.

That point is 100% correct : whether we or they (United) like it or not, Mendes is not a guy the club wants to be on the bad side of. He may not wield the ultimate power when it comes to where players will or will not go, but I'm pretty sure that it is the good relations the club has had with him over the years that have allowed them to sign guys like Di Maria and getting Falcao on loan.
As much as it romantically sounds nice to take the hardline and stick to ones principles in the case of De Gea, it's not worth all the potential negative fall back that would come with forcing him to stay. And it doesn't matter how much money United have at the moment : between getting 20-25mil for De Gea this summer and potentially nothing next summer, there is no way that they'll go for the latter. Even if today's market, it may sound like small change, it's a bad move business wise and the Glazers are not about that.
It would have been nice if things had gone another way but De Gea seemingly has made his choice and the club and us fans, just need to respect it. He's earned that much in my opinion...

With the introduction of FFP, Mendes needs United as much as we need him. Very few team's can even play in the same ball park he has been accustomed too. He needs both buyers and sellers.

I don't think we're that concerned about "pissing off" Mendes.

And perhaps you might be correct about that but there's no denying that he wields a lot of power in the game nowadays and has lots of influence.

Mendes owns property that only a few clubs can afford to buy, but the clubs can buy other talents as well. He needs us. Anyways, Perez missed off mendes last summer and now Madrid are getting de gea

The point still stands that while we should drive the best bargain we can get for De Gea, we have to banish any notion of forcing him to see through the end of his contract at United.

It works both ways. There are going to be several players we'll end up signing whose clubs could have forced them to see through the end of their contracts.

    What goes around, comes around.

If media reports are accurate, Dave has already said his goodbyes to his soon-to-be-former teammates and manager.

Other clubs need to sell. We don't need any money.

It's also always a huge risk to any player to wind down their contract to nothing. Look what happened to Valdes and the Monaco fiasco. An injury can happen at anytime.

We're not looking to sell De Gea to make money, but to make the best of an unfortunate situation and build a squad that can compete for the league trophy next season. It's our bad luck we developed a great keeper who wants to leave for Real Madrid and who Real Madrid wants. Not that it has to happen this week or next, but at some point this summer we need to rip the bandage and move on.

If Perez wants DDG in Madrid, then he better be sending Varane our way. I think this would make the most sense and is more than fair for both teams.
Real can go ******** off if they aren't willing to play ball.

Given their GK situation, I'd say they need the DDG transfer to happen (soon) more than we technically 'need' any of their players.

if we are going that route we are better off getting Varane and Coentrão or Varane + another rather than a fee.

money isn't an issue for us so whether the fee is £25m or £30m doesn't make much difference as both will probably be viewed as not enough

Definitely with you on that one.

The fact that RM thinks they can still try to dictate terms and lowball at this point is disgusting.

Why would need to get Coentrao? I think it's pretty obvious that we are well covered when it comes to the LB spot between Shaw, Blind and Rojo.
If we have a chance to get a player like Bale from them, it would be nice to turn the tables on them for a change.

well at the moment they can't quite do that. we are still in the drivers seat in that regard and should as we said get a player or two instead.

if we accept money though and decide to come back later for Varane/Carvajal/Coentrão etc. they can say "we are done our business/outgoings for the window, sorry" aaaaand we're screwed.

if DdG is to leave we have to go Aulas on this one and leverage the full shit out of it. if they don't want to play by our rules then leave the table and never answer them again. Mendes or not

Both Rojo and Blind have been brilliant when manning the position and Shaw, who has been purchased at great expense already faces tremendous competition. It just doesn't make any sense brining in Coentrao wo himself can no longer hold off Marcelo at Real. Not to mention the fact that there more than enough needs to tend to beside LB.

For a player one year away from the end of his contract? Me thinks you're asking a bit much there.

Cleverley set to join Everton on a free. Think this will prove to be a good move for both parties, as Martinez has already shown he can get the best out of Clevs.

I agree : it's a great move for Clev as he's enjoyed success with Martinez previously at Wigan, his style is a good fit for him and above all, he'll play him in the position he shines the best as an attacking mid. It was nice sentiment to convert him into a deeper central midfielder and it's strange that both SAF and then Moyes stuck it out, massively sapping his confidence and production in the bargain.

Except for us, we get nothing for him.
