I came back to this board for the first time in over a year just to see how Teddy and the Deacon were reacting to the news that their heroes at FIFA and Traffic were being smacked down by the long arm of the law. Thanks for not disappointing, guys.

So the Cosmos host NYC in the next round of the USOC and they act like it's not a big deal (on their Twitter and FB account) , just like they did when they played the Red Bulls a year ago.

It's like they think , the MLS teams should be thanking the gods they are playing the mighty 2nd Division Cosmos.

The NASL got handled by the USL tonight, the Deacon sounds like he's about to put a gun in his mouth.

Wasn't he claiming match-fixing last year when the MLS teams showed up with their starters and hammered the last NASL survivors?

0-7 against the USL doesn't look good at all.

Well he might have a case in the Indy vs Louisville game this year. a blatant foul (guy literally, not figuratively, tackled the Indy Eleven player) in the penalty box with under 10 minutes preventing an easy goal went uncalled which would have likely caused the game to end in a 1-0 win for Indy.

The Deacon just retweeted this little nugget of insanity that I've never seen before.

According to these standings, NYCosmos are the best team in the country...

Edit: I misread it, evidently it only takes into account cup competitions and not the league games.

It does take into account league games... but barely. It weights cup games so heavily that the Cosmos' single 3-0 win against an amateur opponent gives them more points than any team earned in league play.

We knocked the Cosmos out last year so that means the Union are the best team in the country!

Technically it is 0-6-1 (Minnesota lost on PKs) but that isn't much better.

Why am I not surprised that the Deacon set up those rankings in a way that would heavily favor his chosen team?

Bad day for NASL. First they biggest financial backer US President and head of the board of Governors gets indicted then they go 0 and 7 vs. USL in the open cup.

Not a good day for the league challenging MLS for supremacy.

So the long history of NASL vs USL in the Open cup is now at 8-3-1 (with the tie going to USL to make it 9-3 I believe).

The worst part ... NASL is 0-9 vs current USL teams ... their 3 wins came vs VSI Tampa Bay, Charlotte Eagles and Dayton Dutch Lions.

At this rate NASL might have to start their "season break" sooner to coincide with the USL rounds of US open cup instead of waiting for the MLS teams to send reserve squads in for the fourth round.

What are the odds the point value changes and the formula changes when the Cosmos lose in the USOC?

I'd say pretty strong. Right now, cup matches are nonsensically weighted by the league the team itself plays in, not the league the opponent plays in. Since the NASL is the highest league that has played in the Open Cup so far, that heavily favors the NASL. (Note that it means the Cosmos got more points for beating a PDL opponent than the USL teams did for beating NASL opponents.) I'm sure that will change the moment MLS teams enter. Probably the Cosmos will then suddenly get more points for facing a MLS opponent (regardless of result) than MLS teams get for beating lower-division opponents.

Never ever confuse incompetence with corruption.

There is absolutely zero money to be made fixing a third round US Open Cup match. None.

People who even intimate "the fix was in!" on any blown call are just being fanboys. There has to be an incentive to actually throw a match or to try to influence its outcome for someone to seriously consider it. Especially on the same day "soccer corruption" was trending everywhere.

And as we have long since established, The Deacon is a total idiot. Of course one-off Open Cup matches on Wednesday nights are going to carry more weight than league matches. Duh. Until, of course, the Cosmos lose in the Open Cup, in which case winning D2InNameOnly becomes the key to the Kingdom of Heaven.

God, what a transparently biased fanboy idiot.

I'm sure he's going to have a conspiracy theory that doesn't involve the referees. Probably more like "the FBI threatened all the NASL players" or something like that -- after all, the FIFA arrests are already part of the conspiracy.

It is adorable that Ted thinks the entire FIFA sting was a MLS/USSF plot to take down the inconsequential to the soccer world NASL. Ted has truly reached levels of the guy in his basement, who thinks Barack Obama or Pope Francis are personally trying to sabotage his life, and reach him through his microwave.

Do the followers of Ted and the Deacon take them seriously at this point?
