The receipts could have been used for Hurricane Relief Funds and helped two causes. You missed an opportunity USSF!

Woody, I didn't think anyone was paying attention !

My hint to "Charge" as to game game in Philly didn't pan-out. Apparently they couldn't work-out the details . That date went to Houston.

I have very good sources but I'm sworn to secrecy so I have to drop little hints.

Woody, If I could still get free tickets, I'd send you some as a prize, but I have to pay for them now too :0)

    As for TV-
The word I get is that ESPN operates on a one year "notice". That's why Fox Sports World has the Men's qualifiers.
So, ESPN is pretty much out for this tour. Maybe FSW????

They (the Fed) have shown that they can pull-off stuff in a short time - the Pittsburgh date became official 16 days before the event.

FSW had the W-League championship live so....... maybe.

Has anyone tried to buy Portland tix yet? I just want one in the $15 to $20 range, but it keeps kicking out a $40 ticket. Did the cheapo tix already sellout?

About 12,400 permanent seats, 1,500 bleacher seats and about 500-1000 SROs. All told, about 14,500.

BTW, Freddie was a sell out, but the USWNT tix were gobbled up much quicker and I am sure we will have even more SROs. I predict a record breaking crowd--almost 15,000.

No. ESPN has an agreement to carry a certain number of WNT and MNT games per year. Additional games are shown based on mutually agreeable time slots.

The WCQ dates have been known for over a year. The games that are on FSW are there because of college football more than anything else.

That really depends. Is FSW, GolTV, or even HDNet even interested?

As part of their contract with the USL they showed all USL championship games- A-League, PSL, PDL, W-League, Y-League.

Don't the other CONCACAF teams sell the TV rights when the US is away or has that changed? Don't they typically ask more than ESPN will pay though the USSF sells it cheaper?

Most countries tend to barter exchanges between the two rightsholders. In this case it would be SUM in the US and CR-Sports in El Salvador. Apparently CR Sports had no interest in acquiring the broadcast rights to the game in Foxboro.

But for Rochester Rhino games they convert it to a soccer field. If you ever watch Rhino games on FSWD, it's not that bad of a soccer stadium. Sure you could do better with a SSS, but Frontier Field is definately passable for a soccer match.

Thomas, time to start making your plans....

"Hamm, married to Cubs shortstop Nomar Garciaparra, plans to play in at least nine of the tour's 10 games and is particularly looking forward to the game at Soldier Field. It was the site of a 7-1 U.S. rout of Nigeria in the 1999 Women's World Cup, as well as a 4-1 victory over Germany in a 2001 exhibition.

''I'm excited,'' Hamm said. ''The soccer community in Chicago is extremely intelligent. Obviously, this won't be the same intensity as the Olympics. None of us could handle that. We won't have the practice schedule we had for the Olympics. We'll come and play, but for the other teams, it'll be their Olympics -- so we'll have to be ready.''

Hamm, Joy Fawcett and Julie Foudy have announced their retirements, effective after the tour. Longtime U.S. stars Brandi Chastain, Kristine Lilly and Briana Scurry also will participate with the hope of reviving the Women's United Soccer Association, a pro league that didn't make it the first time around. Chicago wasn't part of the original WUSA but could be if the league is revived. Hamm, who shares a downtown apartment with her baseball-playing husband, would like to see that happen.

''Having WUSA in Chicago would be awesome,'' Hamm said. ''I still want to stay involved with WUSA in any way I can, but it won't be as a player.''

    USSF release

Kind of sad the most legit opponents are Mexico and Denmark. FWIW, WUSA would benefit from high attendance at these matches and it certainly looks like the tour is designed (mid-week games in big markets, non-marquee opponents, strange choices of venue - i.e. Ireland in Houston instead of NY and Mexico in KC instead of, well, Houston) to keep attendance low (or at best the crack USSF marketing team is at it again). New friggin Zealand???? Why not Vanuatu, at least that would confuse people.

Too bad USSF didn't want to pay the top teams to come out and make this into something a little bigger.

Do you have any idea what you're talking about? The Mexico game could quite possibly push north of 30k - and be the best attended game of the series.

    10th Game

I assume that the tour will wind up at Carson, and wonder what dates are open. If it will be on the 13th of November, that Saturday would be 2 days after Veterans Day - part of a 4-day weekend for lots of people. The schedule that I can access for HDC shows nothing between 09 October (a Galaxy game) and 14 November (MLS Cup 2004.)

And I wonder what type of opponent will they try to get? One of the Big 2 traditional foes (Norway-China)? A 'safe' foe, to ensure that the final send-off is in a game that the team will be able to win? I'm assuming that this will be one of the games that all 5 will be playing in, so there should be a good chance of an early sell-out, no matter who the other team is.

    Re: 10th Game

I've heard the tour will likely end on December 4th - and from a seperate source on the "west coast". The NCAA Womens College Cup is that same weekend in Cary, NC.

    Oh. Norway ain't comin'

(ADAI) Do you think that's really the best we could do? Why play in one of the worst soccer markets with that game? Don't you think you'd do better in Houston or San Antonio or Los Angeles or . . .?

Do you actually check your facts before posting?

    What is the Wizards attendance?

What does the WNT average at Arrowhead?

Look up some basic facts, then come back to the discussion.

I thought I'd throw my two pennies in here for the sake of it.

The Wizards average attendance last year was around 10,000.

The last time the USWNT played in Kansas City was last year and over 18,000 showed up to watch them draw with Italy. The time before that was in 1999 after the World Cup and over 36,000 showed up.

I don't think those numbers are indicative of "worst soccer market" when you consider that over 90% of all attendees to an athletic are within 30 miles of the stadium.

You're right. I'm sorry. Shame on me for assuming the last year listed in an average attendance column would dare to be the previous year. Average attendance for 2003 was 15,573. MUCH better than 10,000.

I got that information from the bottom of this article: http://kc.wizards.mlsnet.com/MLS/kcw/about/

Let's be picky and say 18,263, shall we?

    http://www.ussoccer.com/teams/stats_results.sps?iType=266&icustompageid=6995

And last, but very not least...

    36,405 in 1999

    http://www.ussoccer.com/teams/stats_results.sps?iType=266&icustompageid=505

I could comb my way through previous years, but really, that's just being tedious now isn't it.

My point was that Kansas City isn't a bad soccer city.

2003 Kansas City Wizards - 15,573 (with no doubleheaders)

    10/22/03 vs Italy - 18,263
    9/15/01 vs (I forget) - ***
    8/20/00 vs Canada - 21,246
    10/7/99 vs Finland - 36,405

*** canceled due to 9/11/01 attacks. This was also a doubleheader with the Wizards regular season final game. Ticket sales at the time of the attack were at or above 30,000. With good weather, this game would likely have topped the post-WWC99 game.

Kansas City is consistently one of the best attended places for the USWNT, and should be the highest attended game during this tour.

The Wizards are solidly a middle of the pack team in MLS attendance-wise, on par with most teams in England's Coca-Cola championship. Not bad for a 9 year old league.

This game will be the first major doubleheader in Wizard's history - in other words, their attendance history has been built upon folks showing up for Wizards' games.

I happen to be pretty bummed that they're not coming anywhere near Denver. Is there a venue anywhere within driving distance, that is, less than 10 or 12 hours? Anyone want to help me out with my geography here? Thanks.
