This really qualifies under the "now I've seen everything" category. A guy joins a message board and tells someone who's been posting for 12 years to change his name. Classic.
Still trying to figure out how someone who just discovered this forum the other day knows so much about me. Odd.
Yes they could not agree on donuts Krispy Kreme Or Duncan Donuts , a fight broke out and coffee was all over the place , League will have a meeting to decide what action to take next hahahahahha
ALERT!! From a trusted source-not a league person Major Arena Soccer League owners took action on several items in an effort to build upon a successful first season during the league’s recently completed meetings at Mercy Hosptial in St. Louis, Missouri. Owners decided to reorganize the leadership structure of the league, appointing a board of five members to oversee the league, while Kevin Milliken, the commissioner of the inaugural season, has been moved to the league’s vice president of business development, while also retaining his ownership stake in the league. “We came out of this meeting more unified in our need to provide the best in arena soccer and entertainment to all the fans of this league,” said XXXXX XXXX, the league’s ???. “Several ideas were discussed, and we feel as if the league is moving in the right direction.” Among the key items approved by league owners at the meeting was a single scoring system for the entire MASL. League owners voted to enact single-point scoring league wide for the 2015-16 season, after an opening season in which four teams used a multi-point scoring format during their home games. “We listened to the fans’ concerns about having two scoring systems, and decided immediately upon the need for a unified scoring system,” said XXXXXXX XXXXX, the league’s new rules committee head. The league’s schedule and playoff format was also approved at the meeting. Each team will play a 20-game regular season schedule, with the top three teams in each division advancing to the post-season. Each playoff round will consist of a home-and-home playoff series, with a tie-breaking mini-game if necessary. The league’s 20-game season will kickoff Nov. 1, 2015, with the season scheduled to be completed by Feb. 28, 2016. Playoff games will be scheduled beginning March 1, and will be held at host sites depending on arena availability in host markets. “We felt that the fans in each playoff market deserve the chance to see their team play in the postseason,” said XXXXXX XXXXXX, the league’s rules/scheduling committee person. “After last season’s format, which allowed for single game playoffs, we wanted to make a strong statement to our fans that their concerns are being addressed.” The league’s structure will also include several committees led by owners, each focusing on a separate part of the league’s operations, which will allow for more input from each member team. More details about the 2015-16 season will be announced over the coming months, including final division alignments and a full schedule.
I imagine it will be modified since it is out there now-but the meat of it is delicious and can be eaten thoroughly
Dare I say I'm reasonably impressed? A number of things that needed to happen actually did. To wit: Moving Mr. "above my pay grade" out of the commish role. Not sure how the five member board will work out, but it can't possibly be any worse. Home and home playoffs, like it! That's how it should be. I would like to see the mini-game extended to 30 minutes, but still glad the single game crap is history. SPS, no brainer. This isn't basketball, a goal is a friggin' goal! How the other changes will work out remains to be seen obviously, but at least they're trying new things. Good to see. Division alignments and schedules will be interesting with one confirmed new team coming in and some leaving. I counted six that could potentially be gone, but doubting it will be that many. Three or four more likely.
I love how that misinterpreted quote (his answer to a technical legal question) still lives on. The five member board will probably work out much the same as the six member board they had this year. Same format as last year until the dates aren't there and then it will be altered again.
The 'trusted source' report sounds very positive. No word on how rules will be clarified and officiating improved - I can only hope that one of these owner committee groups will focus on it. Having one scoring system & playoff format helps the MASL look more legit to sponsors & fans. I agree that the 'change' to the five member board is really no change at all. While Milleken was holding a Commissioner title, have did not appear to have any authority other than to do what the A-list owners told him to do. VP of Operations is a more honest job title, anyway. Milleken is a smart guy whose PASL survived for a long while - he should get credit for his contribution to indoor soccer. Just don't call a guy the boss when he really is not running the operation. I am glad that the governance structure is more understandable now. I will be interested to know which teams are folding but if those who are leaving were weak-sister garage league teams, it is addition by subtraction. Some smaller arena teams, such as Detroit, managed to be competitive and I hope for those teams to eventually grow into larger arenas.
Here is the official release. Major Arena Soccer League owners took action on several items in an effort to build upon a successful first season during the league’s recently completed meetings hosted by the St. Louis Ambush at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Owners decided to reorganize the leadership structure of the league, appointing a board of five members to oversee the league, while Kevin Milliken, the Commissioner of the inaugural season, has been moved to the league’s Vice President of Business Development and Jonathan Ramin will serve as Vice President of Operations. “Merging two leagues, especially in the short period of time it was done, is no easy task. All of us owners communicated the areas we felt needed to be addressed and we made some tough decisions as a group. This was time well spent”, said Mike Zimmerman, President of the newly appointed Board of Directors for the 2015-16 MASL Season. “The league is progressing forward and we look forward to a very bright future, but we must continue to sand down our rough edges just like any new business." Among the key items approved by league owners at the meeting was a single scoring system for the entire MASL. League owners voted to enact single-point scoring league wide for the 2015-16 season, after an opening season in which four teams used a multi-point scoring format during their home games. “We listened to the fans’ concerns about having two scoring systems, and decided immediately upon the need for a unified scoring system,” said Jonathan Ramin, VP of Operations for the MASL. The league’s schedule and playoff format was also approved at the meeting. Each team will play a 20-game regular season schedule, with the top three teams in each division advancing to the post-season. The league’s 20-game season will kickoff November 1, 2015 and completed by February 28, 2016 with Playoffs beginning March 1, 2016. The league’s structure will also include several committees led by owners, each focusing on a separate part of the league’s operations, which will allow for more input from each member team. More details about the 2015-16 season will be announced over the coming months, including final division alignments and a full schedule.
i like the uniform playoff structure, basically like last years except each round is the same - home and home- instead of the west being 1 gamers and the division finals being 1 game. wasnt much of a reward for the wave to get the comets in a one game playoff after surviving a minigame and ot against chicago.
Kenn: Those of us who know so much about you have used many words to describe you... but to my knowledge, never ODD.
While more improvement needs to happen, particularly the consistency & quality of officiating, the league has improved their governance and finally achieved consensus on the scoring system & playoff format. I am encouraged to see the MASL teams moving forward together in a coherent direction . I hope they can get TV deals & decent sponsors as a next step forward. Maybe indoor soccer is leaving the last 15 years of nonsense behind it.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around that press release. Let's see... everything makes sense, makes the league look and feel more professional, pleases the hardcore fans without being unrealistic, and all-in-all seems exactly the right sized step for the league to build off the successes of last season. The only logical explanation is that the actual MASL management is locked in a broom closet and Syd and Kenn have taken over.
