Interesting, that maybe solves a mystery for me. I noticed that on the web, if you look at Quakes schedule and select to show only "MLS Regular Season" matches, the NYRB game disappears. This screwed up some planning for me a few weeks ago when trying to meet up with friends to watch the game. Got the kickoff time mixed up with the RSL game. However, doing this doesn't make either Galaxy game disappear (was hoping it would now to figure out which would be the "tournament" game).

Maybe they'll do it online playing FIFA on Xbox.

    Oops on the NYRB-LAG result.

Strange tournament format. I wonder what they will do about the LAG-NYRB draw, if anything.

Manu vs Barcelona on July 25th at Levi. Hmm, I said that I wouldn't pay the money, but I may have to go to this game...I wonder if Quakes fans will be given priority ticketing...

Really? You think the Quakes would fly somewhere else just to play ManU?

of course they would, nothing would surprise me.

besides, by August, teams want to be back closer to the UK, to get ready for the preseason.

we got Club America...what a surprise:)
but on the flip side, we got Man U also, too bad it probably will not be here.

i have a large group of Man U friends and a large group of Barca friends. so i will have to go to Levis for that one. have to sit in the middle and play UN peacekeeper.

Sure, why not Old Trafford? :p I can tell you exactly where NOT to sit. Nothing like having your side fly 10 hours each way for a mid-week friendly.

Anyone have any guesses for this? Don't think like a Quakes fan, think like a promoter who's already trying to sell 70K Levi's seats at top dollar ($$$$) in July featuring Man U/Barca. Do you think you could sell another 40K (AT&T), 50K (Oakland/Stanford) or 70K (Levi's) mid-week, with Man U as the main course and SJ as the appetizer? I'd guess they'd pick a market where they could tap into Man U fans regardless of opponent.

Quakes vs Manchester United! My two teams. I saw Manchester United once vs Club America in LA but this is a whole different thing and surely one that won't happen again, so it will be super tough to miss.

Doesn't make sense to play the Earthquakes out of the Bayarea and Barcelona here.

They'll play SJ in SF. Giants are away on 7/21.

Well if it's your two teams, then disappointment would be assured, since one must lose, no?

Well that's the bright side I guess bdg but it could end in a tie or, quakes could upset big dogs like they did the canaries but MU might not bring their top players anyway, but still, a dream match up and one that I would relish, just for the spectacle of it. Sadly these other plans are very firm.

I will be pissed if the Quakes/Manu game is not in the bay area. Van Gaal was angry last year when Man U had to zig zag around the US for last years tournament. Hopefully his desire to cut down on travel will get the game scheduled here. Ridiculous to not have the United-Barca game somewhere else if they only want to feature United once in the bay area.

This. I bet they just don't have the permits from the city of SF yet. ICC got a good crowd here for Everton vs. Juventus last year.

Wow, that must be the case. Each of the MLS teams only have 2 games. That is totally stupid.

It's not so bad. A couple interesting friendlies against big teams to generate some dollars and reward fans is great, but you wouldn't want your MLS team to play pre-season punching bag to 4 different European teams in the middle of your actual season, right? I'm all for having a trophy in this series but it's pretty meaningless.

Yes, I agree that overall this is great for the Earthquakes and for us fans. We're getting the biggest club in North America and the biggest club in the world playing here!

That said the point system is stupid overall and farcical if that match from April counts for this.

I spoke to my rep Eric today, and asked where the Man U game will be played. He said at either Levi's or Berkeley.

There was a sold-out crowd of 62,583 watching Real Madrid vs. Inter Milan at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley..

Levi's would be a bummer. We already have a game there and United already is playing Barca there.

Also, weeknight travel and lack of parking would be a nightmare.

Berkeley or AT&T makes more sense.

Berkeley doesn't exactly have parking, either.
