Daddy doesn't love us anymore http://www.houstonchronicle.com/spo...Dynamo-6222864.php?t=867153facec5e0598e&cmpid
Well, they never really loved us. They got drunk one night, slept with the Houstonian maid, and the maid had an orange baby. Since then, we've been eating stale bread in the kitchen with all the servants, while their favorite kid eats with the rest of the family. And somebody please tell the chron.com that their caption is in Spanish. Dumbasses! LOL! "Ricardo Clark festeja el segundo gol del Dynamo, que vapuleó al equipo canadiense en el BBVA Compass Stadium"
Somewhat covering the Dynamo has allowed me to appreciate what Ortiz does. He does his work admirably and that's even with the added pressure of the Astros.
The fact that Coyle is smarting off to Ortiz for asking him silly questions makes me love him. It's not the usual Dom blow-job press gathering Judas!!!!! Ortiz is blaming the loss on Coyle for taking out Bruin which is just laughable - where were these observations when Dom was here???
While not at fault, it didn't exactly help the game. We looked ok after the sub (while looking great before) and fell off a cliff after that stupid call.
Well, Ortiz certainly ended the honeymoon tonight - "On a night he scored two impressive goals, Dynamo forward Giles Barnes took responsibility for letting Sporting Kansas City crawl back to life Saturday. But Dynamo coach Owen Coyle wasn't nearly so willing to take any blame for failing to manage a late lead. The Dynamo got a little too cute, blowing a two-goal advantage to let Sporting escape BBVA Compass Stadium with a 4-4 tie. With the Dynamo leading 3-1, Coyle pulled forward Will Bruin, who had scored a goal in a rare start to take sole possession of second place on the team's all-time scoring list. The Dynamo never recovered from that decision" In what, 5 years of covering Dom and some terrible mistakes in tactics, he never challenges Dom but he somehow blames Coyle for this game for subbing off Bruin? I'm sure he knew Barnes would make a terrible error and Stott a terrible call. Crap, this team didn't get the win but they didn't fold.
Doesn't feel like a loss to me. I saw plenty to be happy about, but agree that the referee had a negative influence.
SKC was already in the ascendancy before the sub. They were throwing numbers forward chasing the game. Ortiz is asking the wrong question. Only problem I have with the Bruin sub is why Hoffman was brought on rather than Garrido or another midfielder. It was time to clog the midfield, a forward for forward swap wasn't the way I would have gone. If a forward was going to come off, I would have preferred to see Barnes come out because he was getting hacked down every time he had the ball. Looked like he was favoring his ribs the entire 2nd half. Up two, I was worried about injury to Barnes. Other sub non-move that bothered me: I'd have gotten Lopez out of the game much sooner. Once SKC was pressing numbers forward, Lopez was useless. Sarkodie was left on an island as he was getting little defensive help from Lopez. Davis wasn't tracking back much better, for that matter. Big reason for the vulnerability on the wings was lack of defensive support out of the midfield.
I thought Barnes was hurting too, that's why he was pulled. Based on tweets I saw last night from the post game conference, Coyle wasn't too pleased with Ortiz' questions. And I liked the fight they showed. They didn't collapse after the red like they did against Dallas last year. A whole different attitude.
Ortiz has no credibility as a proper reporter. He just masquerades around as a sports journalist and if the powers that be knew talent they would have contracted Dart or someone else. Even Ortiz baseball stories are poor and that is supposed to be his expertise. The combination of things have led to this - the Chron sports editor doesn't know / care about soccer and he needs Ortiz for the Spanish edition. Bruin had to be taken off because the team had dropped off and there was too much to space up top for their defenders who were stepping up more and more. Bruin didn't have the pace or stamina to chase and pressure their back 4 like we needed. He wasn't dangerous all night - he lost most all his battles and lost out on getting to quite a few excellent through balls that should have been great opportunities for him. His goal was good and he helped a lot up top just by taking some of the load off of Barnes but I would argue that he was not 'dangerous all game' Ortiz is a fan boy and has lost the respect from many in the business even if they are polite and won't say so publicly.
I post something good about Ortiz and the World goes against him. It's all my fault. Sorry Ortiz. Mea culpa...
Frank DeFord would write a better, more insightful article on Dynamo association football than what we witness from this chingadero Chron Ortiz hack.
the fourth largest city in the country with a thriving soccer community, both a professional mens and womens team, in a soccer specific stadium (less the TSU lampreys) and the best the Comical can do is Ortiz. that pretty much says it all PS Ortiz is the stumbledore of the Comical
You always manage to make me spit out my drink, laughing. (Drink = water. I would never spit out wine)
Well maybe there is some hope, Nick Mathews the current sports editor is on his way out to be the editor of the Charlottesville Daily Progress. http://www.richmond.com/news/virginia/ap/article_7b3c7d60-a645-5010-8445-e622a5156afa.html Maybe his replacement will make some changes.
I don't think the Chron has been a news source for a while now. More of a What's new on Netflix and Which celebrity baby has a birthmark in the shape of Texas source. So it's kinda hard to hate on Ortiz. He is just a mediocre writer. I think all the decent journalists bailed on that paper long ago.
I hear Keeper Notes and Generation Orange are doing great things covering soccer in the city.... #shamlessplug
This is why I love Ortiz - he tweets an absurd overstatement about his buddy Tim Hanley's ability not figuring anyone will check on it. Hanley's "renowned" scouting ability on PK takers led Tally Hall to a 13.5% save percentage on PKs!!! That's nothing special!! Hall saved 3 of 22 PKs in his MLS Career, a hardly remarkable achievement (not sure how many he saved vs. missed target) ChronDynamo-Dash– @ChronDynamoDash Don't underestimate the importance of Earthquakes goalkeeping coach @timhanley2, who is renowned for scouting penalty kickers.
