Stavanger facts: Stavanger is the "petroleum capital" of Norway. Their dialect is something between noise-pollution and torture.
Sister city of my very own Houston, Texas. That makes sense. Both cities are pretty much the energy capitals of their respective countries.
I wish we could get a yank at Tromso and get some "diary entries" back about how cold it is. Especially if the kid grew up in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Florida, or any southern state with sun.
Tromsø isn't that cold really; it's a coastal city (big parts of it situated on islands) with the relatively warmer ocean playing part in it's local climate. They don't get the extreme cold there; I believe the record is only -1 Fahrenheit or something. Even Oslo experiences more extreme cold than that, with a record of approximately -20F. Tromsø is colder on average, but their winters are far from extreme. They can be pretty windy, though, with the arctic storms swooping in. If you want to experience really cold, Finnmarksvidda - the inland area in the most northen part of the country - has a record of -60F and -15 to -25 is pretty much normal.
AJ is a good player. We will miss him on the Revs. I would call him reliable: while he rarely does the spectacular, he also rarely makes big mistakes. I still think he has a future with the USMNT. I suspect if he was German-American he would be an important player for the USA ;-)
I went to Tromso last month and it was pretty nice. Everything was covered in a sheet of ice, mind you, but the temperature wasn't too bad. Though I'm from New York and live in Wisconsin now, so my perspective is a bit skewed.
My buddy was there for 6 months last year. He said the average high in the summer was like 56. He liked the city, said it was just too damn cold.

Viking Defender A.J. Soares Injured, Out 6-8 Weeks http://www.thebentmusket.com/revolu...-6-8-weeks-new-england-revolution-tippeligaen
Back in training. May return in May. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...rns-training-viking-full-return-not-expected-
I don't think most Americans understand how cold (or hot in summer for that matter) the upper mw gets. -20 isn't uncommon.
He's on the bench for the match against Rosenborg, so the recovery from the injury must have gone well. Hopefully AJ gets into the starting 11 soon.
I was just curious, do you guys have any idea how much AJ might be making at Viking? According to the MLS numbers last year, his guaranteed compensation was $159,000, presumably before taxes. I was just wondering how that might compare to what he might get in Norway.
