This is a great test for the u21s... Hope they bring there best possible squad. It's usually televised too which is nice. See how will we're vs the top teams. If US get all their best players I think we can probably get too at least the semi-finals
Looking at the wikipedia page with the rosters from previous editions, I think its 94's and younger for this edition.
If true I still think US has good enough 94's and under too have a good tournament if current u20s are called. Excited for this tournament to start so I can watch
It seems like its just 94's and younger, but we can't really use many 95's and 96's since they'll be at the U-20 WC. That makes this mostly a roster of 94's and the players who didn't end up making the U-20 team, unless I'm understanding the eligibility rules incorrectly for this tournament. Rough guess: GK: Alex Bono, Charlie Horton RB: Marlon Hairston, Tyler Turner CB: Brandon Vincent, Michael Amick, Tommy Redding LB: Dillon Serna DM/CM: Marc Pelosi, Alejandro Guido, Matt Dunn, Lynden Gooch AM/Wing: Alonso Hernandez, Duane Holmes, Collin Martin, Joel Sonora CF: Jordan Morris, Mario Rodriguez, Romain Gall, Amando Moreno 4-4-2: GK: Alex Bono RB: Marlon Hairston CB: Brandon Vincent CB: Tommy Redding LB: Dillon Serna DM: Marc Pelosi(C) DM: Alejandro Guido RM: Duane Holmes LM: Romain Gall SS: Amando Moreno CF: Jordan Morris
They are pretty much at the same time, so if it really is just 94's and younger, its probably 94's and U-20's that don't make the U-20 WC team. I was interested in seeing what a roster would look like, so I compiled one above. Doesn't look good. We don't have CB's and lack attacking talent.
There's definitely a pool to draw from, albeit not exactly our "best" at that age level. I think we might dig deeper into our pool down to the U18s. Why not bring in Mukwelle Akale, Sebastian Saucedo, Coy Craft, and company instead of the Matt Dunn's of the world? [Nothing against Matt Dunn]. Also, there are more NCAA players of interest than just Jordan Morris. Ramos has talked about he was impressed with some of the central midfielders in the NCAAs that are just outside of the pool at the moment. Guys like Arun Basuljevic, Chris Lema, Jake Rozhansky, Adam Najem, Corey Baird, etc. that are in my view worth calling up instead of the "Matt Dunn's of the world." Oh................I'd still be calling up Roldan for the midfield from MLS as well. There are also some foreign-based players out there like Luis Felipe and Herbert Robinson that still intrigue me, because I have no idea how good they are. No clue. [People go back and forth about Herbert's eligibility. I don't think we know.] There are probably more Mexico-based players that will continue to come out of the woodwork.
I agree, I just think we are going to be pretty bad in this tournament since I imagine a number of teams competing aren't also competing in the U-20 WC. Our '94 age group is also right now one of our weaker birth years compared to 93's, 95's, 96's, etc.
Shrug. So what? I know you're on the same page as me on this, but the idea here isn't to win meaningless youth competitions. If the players that make the U20WC squad aren't available for this Toulon tournament, than this is an opportunity to keep another set of players involved in USYNT programs.
But the U-21's and the U-23's are exactly the same squad right? I mean they are using the Euro U-21 meaning right? Which is the same as our U-23's?
Teams can use players born in 93 or later. http://www.thefa.com/news/england/development/2015/mar/u20s-squad-mexico-usa-190315
Good catch. Looking at the trend in recent years, it looked like the oldest age eligible went up by one year each edition. So with 93's eligible: GK: Cody Cropper, Alex Bono RB: Ashton Goetz, Marlon Hairston CB: Shane O'Neill, Walker Zimmerman, Will Packwood, AJ Cochran LB: Dillon Serna, Eric Miller DM/CM: Marc Pelosi, Caleb Stanko, Fatai Alashe, Matt Polster, Alejandro Guido AM/Wing: Jerome Kiessewetter, Jose Villarreal, Jesus Vazquez CF: Khiry Shelton, Jordan Morris GK: Cody Cropper RB: Ashton Goetz CB: Shane O'Neill CB: Walker Zimmerman LB: Dillon Serna DM: Caleb Stanko(C) DM: Marc Pelosi RM: Jerome Kiessewetter LM: Jose Villarreal SS: Jesus Vazquez CF: Khiry Shelton
http://www.festival-foot-espoirs.com/rencontre_festival_foot.php Group A: Costa Rica France Netherlands Qatar United States Group B: China PR Ivory Coast Mexico Morocco England
That's quite the first two match ups. France is absolutely loaded in some of these ages and even if they didn't bring their best of that age group (Pogba, Varane, Digne, Kondogbia, Zouma, Fekir, Laporte), they'll still bring a very talented team.
Non Fifa date right? Will be a great test to see how we match up with Costa Rica, Netherlands, France. I think without are best players available best US can get is probably third in group
GK: Cody Cropper RB: Deandre Yedlin CB: Shane O'Neill CB: Will Packwood LB: Eric Miller DM: Matt Polster DC: Ale Guido RM: Dillon Serna LM: Jose Villarreal SS: Jesus Vasquez CF: Khiry Shelton Morris off the bench Looks like a decent team for all things considered
Non-fifa date. Its going to be hard to get MLS starters I suspect............................. When are we expecting Jordan Morris to actually go to class!? This might be in the middle of finals at Stanford.
