Surely there is someone else on the payroll with a big fake rack they should also keep around?

Well if so, keep her too.

In all seriousness though, why is this so difficult for Bein? You cover 3 major leagues. La Liga, ligue1 and serie a. When you have a big matchup in that league, show the match in full either live or as close to the live air time as possible. It was 1 v. 3. Cmon!

On Saturday March 21, the Spanish channel is scheduled to show an old Real Madrid-Barcelona game rather than the live game of Levante-Celta Vigo. On Sunday March 22, Real Sociedad-Cordoba will be shown at 10:10 P.M. because it will be played during Barcelona-Real Madrid pregame coverage. Also on March 22, Juventus-Genoa will be live on both channels.

The last El Clasico (October 2014) brought 1,486,000 viewers to the 2 beINSport networks. No surprise they are pre-empting other matches (even a day before) for this match. They sent Ray Hudson to Barcelona for this one (hopefully he stays there!!) :)

As far as the Juve - Genoa match, its the only match being played at 15:00 local time on Sunday in Italy!!

I just read that Ian Joy will be calling NYFC games for the YES Network with Joe Tolleson, this could be why John Harkes was hired by Bein.

I totally agree with you about the Serie A show. No othershow is treated like that. It pisses me off that my favorite league is treated like garbage. If you can't handle it why did you get the rights.

Does anyone know the reason for late serie A start times this weekend?

I think because we sprung ahead with our clocks and Europe hasn't yet. They do next week I think.

It's not the time change, it's that the slate of 4-5 games normally in the afternoon (or at 10AM over here) are being played in the evening (3:45 here).

I figure it has to do with most of these teams playing Europa League on Thursday and no Monday games because of international duty. Italians don't want early Sunday game after Thursday night for some reason.

BeIn has crowd sounds of el clasico so low in the mix. They clearly haven't got the message that these types of sounds help create an atmosphere for viewers. Tim Vickery regularly says that as the TV marketplace was globalizing, Brazilian networks wanted EPL because the crowds were close to the action and loud. The networks believed that this combination made for better TV entertainment for their viewers.

In response to the earlier posts about delayed games, note that any game in a 90 minute slot will basically be a 75 minute broadcast. BeIN chops 10 minutes from the first half and then cuts something from the second as well. They've been doing this to Ligue 1 for weeks now. It's ridiculous because these broadcasts are always followed by some other game as a 90in30.

Even if they turned the crowd noise to full blast you wouldn't hear it because those 2 didn't leave a single second of non-commentating for us to enjoy. Even as the players came out on the pitch, Ray said "just listen to this enthusiastic crowd blah blah blah" and just kept talking. Otherwise, credit to beIN for sending the guys over to do the game on site. The buildup, pregame analysis - while awkward at times (Ochocinco, really?) - was approached the right way. Even my wife knew about the game as a huge billboard stared at her going and coming to/from work on I-294. beIN pulled out all the stops and again, while the execution was far from perfect, I'll give them a "A" for effort. But the boys (and this goes for ALL American soccer commentating teams) need to relax and let the atmosphere soak in during a game. Silence can be golden!!!

I get that they have to show commercials and probably at halftime, or else people would just tune in late (or out early), but the 90in30 following that is silly. A delayed game could have kickoff probably at :03 or :33 (after a quick commercial), cut halftime to about 7-8 minutes with the vast majority of that being commercials and then you'd have a 100-minute (say) program...or maybe cut halftime down to 3-4 minutes of all commercials at which point, the entire program wouldn't be much more than 94-96 minutes...

Wild idea: A lot of movies on channels such as TNT or USA are "edited for time constraints" or such. What they mean by that is they'll speed it up about 1/16 or something that the average joe doesn't notice a difference, but it *does* allow the channel to sneak in one or two extra commercials...then, they'll obviously speed the closing credits up and even do the split-screen with the next program. Anyway...you think BeIN could slightly speed up their replays or is this too much to ask?

    ...just talking about replays here...

FSW had it right. Unless there was some sort of rights issue at stake, those games were always live or even delayed in full before we got the "chopped-up edit" versions such as EPL FanZone which were always on Thursday nights...and if you complained about Thursday night broadcast being chopped up, you missed the live airing and maybe one or two full rebroadcasts.

BeIN has a long way to go...but I'd still rather be here where we are now instead of having one channel on a limited tier with horrendous quality (FSW) and the rest of the stuff on $19.99 PPV with a very occasional game on ESPN or ESPN2. Heck, just this weekend, I saw all or parts of games on ESPN2 (simulcast on ESPN Deportes), FS1, MLS Live, BeIN (simulcast on Bein N), NBC SN, NBC Extra Time...and I think that's it...and yes, all in glorious HD.

Any reason why BeIN-Esp didn't use Hudson & Schoen on the English SAP feed for El Clasico?

I forgot who the commentators were, but it seems the norm is for the Hudson and Schoen commentary for the big La Liga games each week to be on the English SAP.

The bigger question is do they truly improve ratings or anything else by continuing to present (whether SAP or on the English channel) the endless rants by Ray Hudson when the could present the solo narration by Matt Spiro that they are already paying for to do the matches in the "mothership" BeIn in the middle east and north Africa.

Are they allergic to a single voice? Schoen alone would also be better.

Maybe it's just that Hudson's perpetual ability to find magisterial moments in the most tedious of matches keeps slumbering viewers awake, and this translates to better ratings. Other than that I just don't get it.

Do you genuinely believe Ray and Phil doing commentary/not doing commentary, would have any sort of effect on the ratings Bein Sports would get for Barcelona v Real Madrid?

And taking that even further {and I'm going to have to duck after saying this} Ray probably boosts audience by appealing to a lot of general American sports fans. His over-the-top style draws attention.

Do you know if they were actually in a booth overlooking the playing field at the Nou Camp for this match? Even though they seemed to be in Camp Nou during the pre-game, the way they called the match was as if they were still watching on TV monitors.

I was wondering that as well. Thought Ray was in Barcelona last week, but seemed like a remote call to me too. The overall production is really poor when compared to NBC's (and before that, ESPN's) Premier League coverage.

I thought the exact same thing. Those two knuckleheads probably turned their backs toward the pitch and called the match off of monitors. It's the only way they can do it.
