Thank you! I think I can speak for the rest of the SSV gang...the biggest thing we are looking forward to is seeing the smiles of everyone as they walk through our new home celebrating what we all, as fans, accomplished. That's what it was all about from the start. That is the biggest reward and recognition of all. :)

We all got together last night for a celebratory dinner, and a few beers afterwards. We reflected, laughed, and clicked our bottles anticipating what a great day today is going to be.

People were carrying the STH bag around the stadium. So it didnt look like they were too strict on it. But it was a preseason friendly and may be enforced to the regular season.

I wore my Return of the Quakes to the gym today. The fact that they are selling today's t for $22 is not going to dampen my joy, but still slightly annoying. How much are they spending for Fastrax, and then nickel and diming us on the shirts?!?

[I'm assuming this is true because someone said it earlier and surely no one would go on the internet and lie to other people:]

Apparently the blue bag doesn't meet the requirements, so they made an exception for it, and you can bring it into the stadium.

Seems like a lot of money to me too. Guess they are trying to get a return on their $100 mil investment they spent on the stadium. I have my doubts though that revenue, along with the $40.00 they are charging for parking, will amount to $100 million any time soon.

Yes being near the airport will make this more difficult. To do "demo" jumps like this you do need to provide a written notice to the FAA, and air traffic control at San Jose airport will need to be involved.

I'm a B-licensed skydiver (license# B-41211) and know many of the skydivers in the Easy Bay, who would be qualified to do a jump like this. (I'm not even close to being qualified, you need at minimum a D-license and other qualifications).

For a typical jump with 60 seconds of free-fall, you jump from 13,500 feet. This "demo" jump is more likely to be what is called a "hop-n-pop" where you deploy our parachute immediately after jumping. Those are typically from 4,000 to 5,000 feet. There are some specific rules about jumping near major airports which I could look up, but I'm sure based on how close the stadium is they will need to shutdown landings to the nearest runway.

Looking at the map it does seem like a left onto Newhall will be best for VIP parking. That left has a huge, multi-block dedicated lane for it, while to make a right you have to share a line with everyone going to the other lots (plus the other issues you mention above). For those coming from the South Bay on El Camino it seems the easiest approach is to make a left onto Hedding and then a left onto Coleman. (If anyone thinks this is insane, please speak up now...)

That makes sense. Now I just have to figure out how to navigate so that we end up going that direction (whichever direction it is) on Coleman.

Having looked at Google maps: ideally, southbound 101 would exit at 87, but that doesn't connect to 880, so it looks like you want to go all the way to 880 and then take that to Coleman.

Having the largest outdoor bar in North America is a nice touch for avaya stadium.

Are they selling standing room only tickets? I would hope so, that seems like a better option for people who plan to spend most of their time at the LOBINA. Otherwise those people will buy regular tickets and the stadium seating will look a bit empty as they'll be down at the bar. It would make sense to give people more options, the stadium would look better filled, and the team would have more tickets to sell. Surely they have thought about that... right?

Here are some of the regulation.

On the FAA side here are some of the regulations.
    https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/atbarc/04-4.htm

On the USPA (United State Parachute Association) which falls under the jurisdiction of the FAA.
    http://www.uspa.org/tabid/225/Default.aspx

From these two sites, I gather the following.

    A) They need a certificate of authorization filed and approved by the FAA to do this.
    B) Jump plane is obvious in contact with ATC (air traffic control). On jump run the pilot calls ATC to let them know they plan to jump in about 2 minutes. They always gives a "jumpers away" call to ATC when the skydivers are out, and in this case they will likely also give a "jumpers on the ground" call when they land.
    C) General air safety requires a MINIMUM of 2,000 feet from the nearest aircraft for skydiving operations. I suspect in this case it will be more.
    D) The visibility rules are not clear, but it seems like they will need 3 miles visibility in this class of airspace. (It is less in different zones.)

Also as a skydiver, I know they will be keeping a close eye on the winds. I never jump when the winds are above 20 miles per hour, and given this is an enclosed structure the direction of that wind will matter. Ideally you are facing into the wind when you land. In an enclosed space then want very little wind.

One thing to watch out for if it is windy, they can hit turbulence from the roof just as then are entering the stadium. That turbulence can play havoc with our canopy at the worst possible moment which is when you are just above the ground and don't have time to recover.

I'm interested in the details of this, so might start a thread about it at "DropZone.com" which is where the skydivers hang out. There my login is "AlanS" too.

Heavy traffic already on 880 and Coleman. My son just noticed the in & out...I think he's happiest about that
