It's so cool that the SSV guys are finally getting credit. But why doesn't anyone in the media question the lack of gratitude or even acknowledgement from Prez Kaval and the rest of the Quakes?

thanks for all that detail. We will definitely try to turn left onto Newhall tomorrow rather than come from 101...

as far as the quality of the pre-game meal, it was atrocious in the beginning (Saag's sausages every game) and got to OK/edible the last 3 years. The drink vouchers were the better value. oh well, all water under the bridge now! Guess we'll be spending at least $50 per game on snacks/drinks. Doubt we will eat a meal there, unless it smells delicious. I was really disappointed with the Levi's food last year, so I can't imagine that Avaya stadium fare will be any better.

I thought that food or at least drinks game with the club seats? Not that anyone has mentioned this, I just assumed it.

Remember, these guys should never have to pay for drinks at our new home. It's the least we could do....

Hey. I've been away from this forum for a while but would just like to say. I'll be at the Avaya Stadium opening and bring along eight others. Will be in section 105.

I'm wondering if they will be doing anything for the fans that were at both the groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 2011, and opening day for the stadium? I've still got my blue shovel ... Probably not a good idea to bring a shovel to a soccer match. :)

Anyway, during the groundbreaking ceremony, my daughter and I dug right by the left goal post and got a really nice picture from that with her on my shoulders. I would really like to get a picture with my daughter who is now 13, and too big to stand on my shoulders, from that same spot. Ideally I'd like to have the blue shovel and wearing an opening day ceremony shirt. One could dream I suppose. ...

If you have a ticket, they will let you in, and if you have money, they will sell you a beer. You can cheer for no extra charge!

Can I bring my blue shovel? It might come in handy if there are any obnoxious Fire fans nearby. :p

By the way, it looks like the stadium ATMs are not shown on the amenities map in the Avaya app. I have an older map from the website that shows an ATM in each corner of the stadium. They had not yet been installed at the soft opening and that really caused us problems as neither my wife nor I had any cash. All the main food stands, the LOBINA and the food trucks take credit cards, but the walk-around vendors and some of the carts (e.g., ice cream) need cash. Be prepared in case the ATMs are still not yet installed.

The Avaya app lists some of the food specific selections for the different stands. The vegan pizza is under Section 121. I'm also excited to see that The Grill behind Section 114 has Field Roast brand veggie burgers. They are vegan and really good. Don't know about bun options. The Fresh Classics stands all have the grilled veggie wrap, but as previously discussed, we don't have info on the wrap ingredients and whether the optional gluten-free version may also be vegan. Looks like most of the beers (except the English and Irish ones) are also vegan. Of course then there are the food trucks with the best vegan options.

I really doubt they would let you bring a shovel into a stadium for a game. Hell they won't even let you bring in a decent sized bag. And I also hope they wouldn't do so, because that would be crazy if people in the stands were armed with shovels.
If you want to take a pic with your daughter and a blue shovel maybe talk to your ticket person about doing so on a stadium tour.

When at the game today, I'll make a stop at the beers of the world....and once in my seat I'll make a toast to all the diehard, loyal, and determined Quakes fans who worked so hard to make this happen and have waited for this day....for those of you who have been waiting decades for this......Cheers !

That was my complaint. No more food or drinks, just service is closer by so u don't have to get up to buy stuff. Oh well.

But how did this weather sneak up on us?

Btw, no shovels unless they fit in that little messenger bag, per NFL bag policy.

I'm writing from my perspective as someone who almost always drives, won't pay to park, and only sometimes takes Caltrain to the matches. Avaya is the most difficult. Levi's is a bit of a drag because we have to park and then take the light rail, which like doubles the time. I have Stanford totally figured out, no problems there.

VTA options to Buck Shaw are virtually the same as for Avaya. There's the 22 or 522 on ECR from downtown SJ, so that's the same as the game day shuttle. From light rail, the #10 serves both; Buck Shaw is about 5 minutes further from Avaya under normal conditions. The Caltrain option is more complicated for Avaya than Buck Shaw because it isn't really walkable from the train station to Avaya (it's actually shorter and faster from San Jose than from Santa Clara), so the #10 it is. That should be fine, except for the half hour frequency, which may not be enough to keep it from becoming too crowded. We'll find out today, if people share their experiences.

I agree that public transit to Spartan isn't good. In all my years attending MLS and other matches there, I took Caltrain once so I could go early to a June, 2005 match to watch the satellite big screen viewing of the US/Costa Rica WCQ before a Quakes match (technical difficulties had us miss the first goal) while my wife needed our car for something else at that time and met me at the match. I walked from Tamien Caltrain, about 25 minutes.

Free street parking near Spartan is easy and plentiful. I never had a problem in the Latino, working class district near the stadium despite you perceiving it as a "dump." In fact, I have fond memories of late weekday afternoons drinking non-alcoholic beer in the Keyes Club killing time between work and the match. I even befriended one of the local barflies and invited him to join me with my extra ticket for a friendly match between the Quakes and a Mexican League team and, happily, he did.

I was kidding about the shovel, but I do really want to get the "after" picture to go with the "before".

Forecast says 0% precip chance in San Jose during the game, so never mind that it's raining in Palo Alto.

Has anyone measured the bag they sent us to see if it's too big to take in to the stadium?

This is no easy thing to pull off, given the location. Air traffic will have to be cleared while the demonstration is taking place. They will likely jump from the lowest possible altitude, minimizing the impact on local air traffic patterns. I have no idea of the minimum distances that either private or commercial aircraft must maintain from skydivers in a situation like this, but it's likely that at least the left runways (there is the left main and also a smaller runway to left of the main runways) would be closed during the exhibition, and probably all of the runways would be closed for the short time period necessary. After it is all finished, maybe they will explain everything that is involved with getting approval for this from the FAA.

Ahh yes, I totally forgotten about this option for Buck Shaw :) Thank you for pointing that out.

Welp, I think that, by and large, as long as there are public transportation existing in some fashion and with some efficiency, we can call it a success. I am always mindful of being in the South Bay where public transit access to anything is rather a chore and if I could access anything on the light-rail, I am more than happy :)

It's going to be a good day at the stadium, and hopefully everyone doesn't let their frustrations for first-day traffic shenanigans break their mood :) It's been a long time coming!
