I seem to recall it used to be Irwin and Moor. I wouldn't be surprised that Moor gave it to Cronin at least temporarily to work on his fitness.
Sorry if this has been posted but Ives is always good for a laugh: Rapids Season Preview http://www.sbisoccer.com/2015/02/season-preview-colorado-rapids.html
http://www.coloradorapids.com/news/...ck-dominique-badji-after-successful-preseason Badji is now signed. No surprise given the minutes he saw in preseason but nice to see him officially sign with the Rapids. I can say I'm quite intrigued by his prospects and the talk behind him at the Combine.
I'm intrigued as well but I didn't pay enough attention to know what the "talk behind him at the combine" was. m vann would you mind summing that up?
He "wowed" people -- if you will -- in that he was the only player to finish in the Top 10 Speed, Power, and Agility. Actually, IIRC, I heard he is one of a select few Combine players to ever accomplish that feat. He was 10th in Speed, 5th in Agility, and 1st in Power (vertical jump). Badji was pretty damn good his last two years at Boston U and probably would have gone higher in the draft. However, knowing Badji would initially take an international slot caused teams to shy away. I can't blame them, honestly, with international slots at a premium.
Super athlete, tested in the top 10 on all the physical tests (speed, jumping, agility, etc.). The fact that he fell to the last round on day 2 tells you what people thought of his soccer skills.
Told my buddy this and his response, isn't one year with KSE like 7 years with a decent team? Probably wanted that officially noted in the CBA language.
. I understand the leverage bit, but this really sounds like a laughable deal for the players. But a laughable deal is about as good as they can get given their leverage. I realize that few of the details are out but from what I've seen so far it's paltry compared to other US sports leagues. They have the latest free agency *and* their salaries are capped pretty seriously. At least they got the length of the CBA down, I guess. But I guess most of all I'm glad it was resolved and they'll play. I'm sure their negotiators pushed as hard as they could. The current MLB CBA is a 5 year deal, BTW. NBA is a 10 year deal with an opt-out (after 6 years, I think).
Interesting...well the Powers part. Prediction: Could be hard for Powers and Brown to crack the starting lineup early in the season.#Rapids96— Marco Cummings (@Marco_Cummings) March 5, 2015
While I'm really trying hard to reserve judgment and see how this all plays out....I can't help but worry that Powers could be going the route of Kyle Beckerman.
This is more interesting and sheds a little more light onto the subject: Mastroeni on Powers and Brown: "They're trying to get their fitness underneath them." #Rapids96— Marco Cummings (@Marco_Cummings) March 5, 2015 Did these two come into camp unfit?? Did they not prepare themselves or do what was necessary this offseason. Hmmmm................... makes me wonder.
Fitness seems to be the ultimate Rapids excuse for things these days. I haven't felt good about the team's plans for those two for a while. Interestingly most of the team previews I've read have had some comment about the season hinging on how Powers is played. I've wondered how "not" fits into those predictions.
I thought the same thing. Is it a given that twitter users are more informed than BigSoccer dinosaurs?
He's works with one of the local sports radio channels and does some print stuff for something I don't recall. Shows up with something interesting a few times a season.
He writes regularly for Mile High Sports and covers the Rapids. It seems like Cummings has ramped up his coverage in the last year. He comes across as in-tuned and informed with all the Rapids matters. I don't know if it's by design or by coincidence but he's really kicked into gear this season.
Well we know Powers has a lingering knee issue from college so that could explain part of his problems. Brown is a mystery.
I was just about to post the exact same thing. Powers' tendinitis issues are fairly well documented and he sat out a practice or two last season just to gives those knees a little rest. Brown is a mystery. If anything he should have rounded into shape fairly quickly given that he played with Jamaica in the Caribbean Cup and was involved in another training camp in Jamaica during the off season. Brown's situation screams doghouse. With Power it's hard to tell at this point.
