they're trying to get more u.s. eyes and u.s. ads on their money losing telecast. i wouldn't put a norway player in there either. i don't know one that would attract more ratings than the names and faces they used.

I dont suppose there is any chance I get to see Dunn start to try and control Hansen? I didnt think so.

From the Feb 21 release for roster:
    • Christie Rampone and Megan Rapinoe return to the roster after overcoming injuries that caused them to miss the USA’s two-game European tour in early February, while Hope Solo returns after serving her suspension.
So, it may reasonable to ask if the others are also not 100% yet, not giving full disclosure?

the best person to control hansen is ohara, who played every minute of the olympics, controlling thomis reasonably well along the way. but ellis somehow doesn't think ko is a good left back.

ohara at left back, pinoe at left mid, and leroux at left forward, (assuming they're healthy), hugely negates thomis, much less hansen.

(what's with the revert to the middle bs? or did I somehow change my margins?)

It would have been a training injury with Norway not Wolfsburg but like I said it's just something someone told me...not confirmed.

To be fair to Thomis, she was a lesser player in 2012 than she is now.

True, but to be fair to O'Hara, Ellis hasn't even given her the opportunity to show whether or not she was a lesser player in 2012 than she is now.

To be fair to Ellis, this is, once again, dependent on the notion that you can only show things in games...

Really? I didn't realize she hasn't practiced with the team since Ellis became the coach. That really is disturbing.

So would it then be fair to say Ellis starts the 11 best players from the practices leading up to the matches?

Or, asked in another way, has the team's performance under Ellis given cpt and Taos every confidence that Ellis is playing the correct players?

Women's Soccer Zone has an interview on Twitter with Julie Foudy about the Algarve and impressions on the USWNT. I tried to post it here, but it's being a bit finicky. So, everyone go listen at once! It's a good listen. I recommend it.

    @wosozone on Twitter https://twitter.com/wosozone
(Just click on the picture of Foudy. If you try to open the link, it makes you sign up for free. I didn't feel like it.)

Foudy said she talked to Ellis after January camp and Ellis was "viscerally excited" about what she was seeing with her Lloyd-on-the-left-experiment. It makes me wonder what the hell they do in practice.

I want to see this iteration give it a go in the Algarve just once: (4-4-2)

Solo, Krieger, Engen, Sauerbrunn, O'Hara, HAO, Chalupny, Lloyd, Rapinoe, Morgan, Press.

No-- presumably she starts a mix of those she thinks give her the best chance to win and those she wants to see in that game, same as any other coach; but it would not be fair to say that O'Hara has had no chance to show what she can do because she hasn't played when we could see her...

How would you get that impression? All I was objecting to was the notion that players can only show what they are capable of in games.

And this is where the argument lies. In the box of old saws where u find positions r won in practice u also find it's the starter's position to lose. Now even tho I dont actually support either philosophy I can certainly see why O'Hara fans feel they have a beef. Even if others r outplaying her in practice, and I dont necessarily believe that, at no point has she been given the consistent playing time following her surgery to defend what was hers or the respect she was due.

As to me, I just think Ellis is looking for a different type OB than O'Hara and nothing more than that.

And as we've seen positions are certainly not won in matches.

Good news everyone! Ellis has found the solution to their problem keeping possession:

    They must've hired Coach Lasso...
