    No, its not about bisexuality.

Its about that thingy in your car engine that powers all the electronic gadgets including the frickin' engine itself.

Well mine broke last week. Luckily I recognized the problem (not too difficult as all the dashboard lights lit up like Christmas and the battery indicator dropped to 0) and immediately drove to the shop.

My question is can you destroy an alternator by drawing too much power from it or was it just my alternators "time" ? I only have 24 K miles on the car - its 4 years old. I was powering my cell phone, listening to the radio, had the wipers on when it went.

An alternator's job is to maintain a charge, not to charge. Who makes your car? I notice American-made cars need alts sooner than imports.

My old '89 Ford Probe went through 3 alternators in 4 years. Luckily, like you, I knew what was up when it happened and always drove it straight to a shop since I knew it wasn't going to start again. Had no troubles in 6 years with it and then hit the bad streak...oh well.

If you have a Toyota or Lexus, i STRONGLY recommend you use a OEM Toyota/Denso reman, Denso First Time Fit reman, or AC Delco reman. I know for a fact my dad's Cressida gobbled up alts like crazy, and it stopped with a Toyota reman one.
