Everton Player of the Month: January 2010, January 2012 Given that he was there each spell for only about 2-3 months and that there was a two year hiatus in between, that kind of plug and play consistency over a few years tends to be remembered. I'd like to think that LD intended it that way, as something of a tease. It just adds to the enigmatic charisma of his talent which is probably why he has a minor cult following with Everton fans, and to some degree its also a factor in why he generates animosity among certain segments of US fans.
What They're Saying: Don Garber "He's our Michael Jordan and our Wayne Gretzky." -- MLS commissioner Don Garber after announcing that the MLS MVP trophy would be named after Landon Donovan, who was honored in ceremonies Thursday before the SuperDraft in Philadelphia. http://www.socceramerica.com/article/62312/what-theyre-saying-don-garber.html?edition=13241
Good thing JK wasn't on the naming committee. We'd have ended up with the 'Brad Davis MVP Award' or the 'Chris Wondolowski MVP Award', given that they were just a little ahead and all. Seriously though, well deserved honor for the most decorated domestic player in league history.
Well, Landon has gotten himself engaged . . (From his Facebook page) Good morning! I want to thank you all for your continued support as I've transitioned into a new chapter of my life. I've received many beautiful/powerful messages and gifts and I'm so incredibly grateful. Retirement has been everything I could have hoped for. I've enjoyed trips to Peru and Ecuador to visit orphanages, Bandon Dunes Golf Course in Oregon, India and the Maldives. There are many more trips to come and I can't wait! I've also had more time with my family and close friends over the last 2 months than I had in the previous 16 years combined. I'm in the process of enrolling in college and have started many other exciting ventures that I've always been passionate about. There are many more intriguing things on the horizon and I'll keep you updated as they arise. Lastly, and most importantly, I recently got engaged to the love of my life, Hannah smile emoticon I have never been this happy and I'm excited for our future together! Thanks again for all the love and have a great week! Graciously, Landon [/QUOTE]
The guy is only 32... Any chance in hell he laces back up if Jurgen was fired, or took a job with an EPL team, and the USMNT is struggling this summer? Shaka Hislop suggested a similar scenario a month or so ago... Just curious what others think.
Who knows? I wouldn't bet on it though. It seems like he's moving on with his life. If he get's married, gets a college degree and starts looking for other challenges, I don't think he'll come back to playing soccer other than recreationally.
Getting a college degree might be a lifetime ambition for Landon and his family, but I really have to wonder why he believes he might need one.
As someone who didn't get a BA until his 40s ,let me just say good for him. Could be a lot of reasons.
I think he mentioned that he wants to be a psychologist or counselor, and you need credentials for that.
Interesting... have you ever actually seen your weed guy while Donovan was playing on live tv at the same time (or in the same place at the same time, for that matter)?
I just thought about something... Landon Donovan is no longer a professional soccer player. I'm gonna yak.
Landon Donovan didn't score any goals in 2014 prior to the roster announcement. Six months later... that's still true.
