Well I think Lorient was only picked for the turf. And I agree...there is a big difference from U30 and a low/no cap team. The fact that USSoccer never would consider it is troubling.
Yeah Lorient was picked for the turf, the FFF still promotes the game a good bit and is looking for a sell-out. it was said 14k tickets were sold on the 18k capacity and 1k still available. One big part of the main stand is reserved for freebies.
Bienvenue en France, #USWNT. First training on a sunny, but chilly morning on the Northwest coast. pic.twitter.com/CPt65nwpx0— U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (@USWNT) February 3, 2015 From the 3rd, but it looks like the boot is still on, so I don't see Leroux playing.
She must be available for the England game ? otherwise they are just taking her on holidays in Europe...
US Soccer doesn't seem to mind sometimes taking rehabbing players with the team to monitor their rehab and training. For example, both Morgan and Dunn went to Brazil even though it seemed that it was always in the plans that they were only there to train and not to play in a match.
Right. I thought as Pinoe isnt around and injured. The same thing would apply to Leroux. French fans will be happy to see her.
I have two big questions 1. Harris is coming off a broken finger...if it's really cold as predicted do u start her if she isnt a 100% pain free in the cold? 2. Are we more likely to see A-Rod or Leroux playing with the boot on?
if she's heathy, barnhart will be in the nets. ... and if ellis is true to form, we'll see arod for 75 seconds at the end of each game. ... i dont expect to see leroux in either game.
I can't believe they would bring Barny if unhealthy. They know what she can do, so its time to gauge the other two and firm up a back line starting four.
off and on topic: http://espn.go.com/espnw/news-comme...er-done-better-job-developing-no-2-goalkeeper Agreed, obviously. Glad she wrote this. Foudy is often waayyy to soft on the WNT, for obvious and understandable reasons. But I do wish we'd have a bit more journalistic integrity from people who cover the Nat team. It such a small world, friends are involved, and journalists often go light on this team/coaches/organization, IMO. "Look, I know it must be tempting to ride your horse until the end, especially when that horse is winning. And I know getting substantial, quality minutes for backup goalkeepers is always a challenge at the national team level. But this just all seems so preventable and, even worse, predictable. Let's hope the U.S. women do not pay the price for what should have been a very good return on investment: playing more goalkeepers when games mattered. "
I like Solo...I really do and hope she is ready and able to do the job at WC. That said, there has always been a perception that the team goes out of it's way to keep Solo happy. Before Sermanni the theory was they didnt even bring in anyone who worried her. Now u get this long stretch of matches from August thru December where they continued to play her despite the real possibility she would be unable to play in WC due to a DV conviction. The USSF has brought this on themselves and it might just bite them in the ass no matter which way they jump.
I agree with you, but US Soccer does the same thing with every other position on the field. Why not goalie too?
This may just be me but are we creating problems where there is none? Sure the other goalies don't have that many big games experiences but they are not complete neophytes either. I think this team have more important things to worry about than GKs to be quite frank. For me I won't loose much sleep if it is the first game of the world cup and our starter is Harris or Barny. If we don't sort this midfield problem out and find ways to generate goals against quality opponents, it won't matter who we have back there. I see all these articles flying around about lack of experience but can we wait until there is an actual problem first before making a big deal about it? For example, if Harris/Barny are complete shit shows in France and England than I'll start to worry but until than I have faith in both of them. What I would like to see is this same level of criticism being levied on the mid field.
It's also only half the discussion. The other half is the very small net being cast in camps and friendlies. I suspect other countries are casting a much wider net in callups to camp and playing time in friendlies.
I guess Foudy's next articles will be similar ones on the failure to develop a 2nd defensive mid or target forward. Or, she could write one big article on why the wnt seems to exist for the glory of its players rather than its country.
Here is a short video from the USA training session Abby Wambach interview ( French) Jill Ellis interview ( French) According to the journo who did the interview, he was stopped after 5 minutes. Loads of questions unanswered.
I was laughing a few weeks ago at fake online outrage a few weeks ago about a company that no longer had a deal with FIFA not making stickers or cards for the Women's World Cup.
I was wondering why the interview was so short. Must have been Heifitz who cut it off. I see his job now is to suppress media coverage. Brilliant. My guess is that USSF has a juicy contract with FOX for the WC and wants exclusive access right through the WC final for interviews, etc. Otherwise, this media suppression by the WNT demonstrates a lack of confidence.
We will have an idea after the game in the mixed zone if things are locked. I found him very helpful actually at the USA v France game in Tampa. Post game, I wanted to get a quote from an american player and she was already back into the dressing room sanctuary. We went all the way round the Stadium( I got on the pitch ) and next to the USA locker room, he went in to get her to answer my questions. No it would not happen with every NT press officer some of them consider press as annoyance...
I am quoting from another thread because it is very relevant here : Speaking of stalking the US WNT, there is a French girl who has spent the day outside the US WNT hotel and training pitch trying to see the training session and the players around the hotel. Crazy Stuff @ussoccer_wnt If I come to see you tomorrow, do you will invite me ? 😊 I promise, I don't bite 🇺🇸— Aurélie (@Gege_BZH56) February 5, 2015 @fifi5035 @nathalie93140 @FrancoisGallen @sophiedrx je sui face à la mer. I would think Heifitz is just the enforcer. He asks the coach/player how much time they want to give to the media and then pulls them out at that time. Or there r a bunch of people who have to be cycled thru so he breaks up the time accordingly.
If she can get some video of training, that'd be awesome as USSF doesn't seem to want to provide any. But really, geez. Good to know they have some security. It sort of reminds me of the stories of girls following the '99 WNT players into bathrooms and such. I guess you know you've made it when...
What doe does this mean? As in Ellis/ Abbey didn't answer some questions or their answers baffled everyone and only left more questions?
