Sometimes, and this isn't a shot at you, just general sentiment, but real football isn't FIFA. It isn't a case of plug in one player for another. KDeB needed to do certain things. Jose didn't feel those were being met. One of the reasons Willian plays as much as he does and to many's chagrin is that he embodies certain traits Jose likes and covets. In limited appearances he didn't look particularly well. Who would he have replaced last season anyways? We already had Mata on the bench and Schürrle. At that time Oscar was in the form of his life. Like @yasik19 said, sometimes things don't work out. It isn't any bodies fault it's just circumstances. I love Schürrle and am bummed, but be honest with yourself here, what has he done this season? He's scored but he looks disjointed out there. That could be down to little playing time but it could be down to our evolution as a team too. Finally, I don't want to be a club that prevents players from moving if they want to. It does no one any good. If a player wants to leave and the offer is good, then so be it. I want us to become self sufficient as a brand, company, and club. The only way we can do that currently is off of player transfers. We turned a profit on Schürrle and bought a cheaper option who is as good but more importantly said player is a true right wing player. Win win right there.
The thing is I don't think Schurrle has gotten much playing time so your critique of his play this season is from a limited sample. It's hard to tell what a player can do if he is sitting on the bench. And I don't think fans should praise every decision Mourinho makes. When he had Chelsea play nothing but defense in the first game against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last year it didn't work out for the team at all.
I'm not praising Mourinho. This isn't about him. It's about making the most of opportunities when given. Perhaps the reason he isn't playing is because he doesn't do something well or simply can't. Spend some time on the Citeh thread and you'll see I am critiquing Mourinho for our lack of depth. But Schürrle hasn't usurped Willian in a season and a half. KDeB couldn't outplay 5 different players last season. I don't find Willian to be an overly effective player and Schürrle can't get a match and frankly the times he does he doesn't look comfortable. And he wants to go. Why is it so hard for people to understand that. We aren't some shit side struggling. We are one of the top sides in Europe with a 5 point cushion and in the knockout stages of the CL. If you don't have something that's broken and the part isn't going to fix it, why try.
Cuadrado is a perfect fit for this team. I have no doubt that he'll succeed. His dribbling, speed, defensive work rate, and technique will make the fans love him. He's not just a world cup star, he's been performing at a high level for years now.
I believe Schurrle has the ability, he would have been a fantastic asset to our side I believe had he of got his head down and stuck it out. But just like Salah he never really helped himself this season. However Jose clearly rated Schurrle unlike Salah, with what he was saying in the press about Schurrle during the season. Schurrle added variety in the side, he wasn't a fantastic footballer but his movement and his direct thinking was valuable to the side I thought. He was one of the few players in the side that didn't like to mess around with the ball too much, again variety, who looks for the shot rather than the pass when in a decent position. At Chelsea we don't really give those luxuries to players, you have to impress in the time you are given, Salah and Schurrle haven't done that this season, Schurrle has bagged himself some goals and he has been much better than Salah of course however just not good enough unfortunately. I do think we could have played him more though, I think Willian has had far too much game time and it's a reason why that right hand side has been slightly ineffective at times.
Couldn't this have waited until Summer? is Cuadrado any good? He looks like Willian but has a better shot. Maybe.
Cuadrado is Fiorentina's best player. He was the other player for Columbia at the World Cup. He's better than Willian going forward and has more flair than Schürrle but we'll see if he can put it together.
I'm sure this is being highly exaggerated, but it's definitely a situation worth keeping an eye on. Unfortunately, United could blow us out of the water on the fee and wages front. Bale would need to decide how much winning trophies is worth to him. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/feb/01/gareth-bale-real-madrid-real-sociedad
If you want to see a bunch of ingrate supporters, look no further that Madrid. Them and the barcodes are vying for top spot in that league.
I think there were some issues with Schurrle's transfer that delayed the deal, but it all still points to the deal being completed.
We are obviously waiting for official confirmation from Chelsea but Cuadrado hasn't signed yet. Additionally it isn't a done deal yet for Schürrle to Wolfsburg. The window in Germany closes in 4 hours. Bild are all over this transfer though and say it's just details being sorted out at this time. Some late Enner Valencia talk at £20m as well.
